Re: Creating a sub-group

Eric,

Is creating a sub-group as simple as identifying it in the group email
address but using the sub-group address?
No.

As Bruce said, you have to explicitly create the subgroup, and assign its email address and other settings. The settings are very similar to those of a primary group, differing mostly where membership is concerned.

Re: Unable to invite [email protected] #transfer

Jason,

The original owner has made me an owner of the yahoo group but I still
seem to not have full permissions of the existing yahoo group.
You may have been made a moderator with limited permissions. When visiting the Yahoo Group's pages click on the Membership menu. Look where it shows your email address. If you have a blue crown to the left of your email address you are signed in as an owner of that group. If it is a green crown you are signed in as a moderator.

Or if someone knows what instructions I can send the original owner
that might help?
Have a look at Steps 3 and 4 on this wiki page, it has screen shots of the Yahoo Groups pages you need (and you need to be able to promote the agent, not just invite the address):
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

If you can't get access to the Invite Members page, or to a member's Role setting, then feel free to send that wiki link to the original Yahoo Group owner. GMF's wiki is readable by the public so that person won't need a GMF subscription or Groups.io account to read it.

Re: Calendar features questions

Only an idea.

Maybe it is possible to setup a subgroup as a anouncement group. Set this group to be readable for anyone, writable only for mods.

Then link a anouncement topic to the calender subject.

Could this work to see then a embeded photo without loging in?

Bottom line is that you really need to host the image somewhere else if you want to ensure the desired behavior. Again, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/31532132#16547

Re: 'show quoted text' vs showing quoted text

Thanks again Duane. I started a new thread yesterday, and included a quote to help start the thread. I got the 'Show quoted text' button. In this case I didn't want that, as the quote was an integral part of my posting. What we really need, if wishes were horses, is that 'Show quoted text' shows up if and only if that text is visible earlier in the ?same thread. imho.

No, it will not.

As long as you haven't yet given the go-ahead, you can change the destination yourself.?

Go to the transfer page at?/yahootransfer and click open the transfer you're working on. On the resulting "edit transfer" page, pull down the "Groups.io Group" menu and change your destination to the main group. Having done that, click the blue Update Transfer button and you'll be set.

So you deleted the destination (a subgroup) for your transfer.

Have you already transferred from YG to the main group on Groups.io? In other words, are you transferring two groups into one group?

You are supposed to transfer into your main group on Groups.io and THEN, if it makes sense to you, you transfer another YG into your subgroup.

I suggest you figure out where you are in the process.?

Shorter durations tend to be more problematical. If the servers checked minute by minute to see if every hashtag in the groups.io service has timed out, there would be no resources left to do anything else. Give it some time...if set up correctly, it should eventually happen.?
I set it for delete. I will wait!

Hashtags - topic duration #hashtags

I tested using a time limiter on hashtags.?I set the hashtag for 1 hour.?
I set the duration in the edit hashtag area. The instruction is:
When set, tagged topics will automatically be deleted or locked after the specified time period.

I assigned it to existing messages and also wrote new test messages and assigned the hashtag.?But the tagged topics are not deleted nor locked.

Anyone try this? Or does it only happen overnight, in spite of the 1 hour info in the interface?

Yes, I did think of that but didn't like the imprecision of it. ;-) Probably for a calendar on a e-loop that is a fine solution as well, with the full details in the Description. A slight improvement might be to put the start time on the first day and the end time on the last day. Honestly don't know if that's better or worse, though.

Kenton -- It seems very unlikely that your photos are actually missing (that only happens on Yahoo). Besides, deleting multiple photo albums is an arduous process that would be very difficult to do by accident.

A basic question:? Are you logged in? You won't be able to see the photos if you're not.

Or perhaps you are logged in, but with an email address that isn't subscribed to this group? See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Group-Content-Is-Missing

If no one?in your group is able to see them, someone may have inadvertently disabled the Photos section. Check that in your Settings, re-enable it, and the photos should still be there.

I strongly suspect one of these things will fix your problem. If not, please come back with a screenshot or two.

?

Can these be recovered from a backup?

?

The purpose of the WSLCphoto list was for excess photos back many years when Yahoo was limiting storage space.? I paid the $220 for Premium and another $200 to expedite, but at the end I did not receive anything of value.

?

Can you offer any suggestions regarding a course of action?

?

Re: Unable to transfer old Yahoo group

Just a thought, since at least one person misunderstood the
requirement to have a prepaid annual premium group fee (they signed up
for a monthly payment arrangement, which wont' work).

That person thought paying for it monthly meant the group could be
transferred. That isn't the case. You have to pay one year in advance
for a premium group before your invitation will work.

If you've already done that, then follow the advice from others given
here.

Ken -- There is no provision to inhibit attachments of a certain file type.?

The result is that attachments image storage is several times greater than the E-mail photos albums. Video files can easily consume the "FREE" 1GB
image storage.
You bet. If you want to keep people from doing that you will either have to strip/bounce attachments entirely, or moderate messages containing attachments so you can manually remove offending ones before they post. See Admin>Settings>Message Formatting>Attachments for options.

Removing attachments is cumbersome as you have to delete the message first and then log back into View Attachments.
Within View Attachments, click on the Size column header to find the biggest offenders. Each Subject name tabled here is an active link to the corresponding message. Having clicked that, select Edit Message from the More menu, and you can delete the attachment while still keeping the underlying message (i.e.: click its "Delete" checkbox before saving). When done, click the "Back" button on your browser a couple of times and you'll be back in View Attachments again.

So yeah, that can be a struggle. It might be nice to just be able to just tick a few checkboxes and delete a selection of attachments from the original table display. But with power comes responsibility, and having such a feature would also make it easy to delete something that you really wanted to keep.

The current way forces you to examine each attachment in its original context, and has some merit on that basis...at least from where I'm standing.

Are their any plans to make management of attachments easier or manage upload of video files separate from photo images?
I don't see anything to that effect on , unless it's covered under "Attachment Improvements." It might be more straightforward to filter attachments by size rather than by file type.

Bruce
