Larry, I am against this. Especially if you are asking that all image files (.ep, .PNG, etc) be restricted.?

Please realize that not every group uses all the features offered by GIO in the same way.

Our group is composed of volunteers of a national non profit. Our central office distributes graphics to us for local use and our various group members need to download and place those full resolution image files into our chapter publications.?

We don't need to actually view the image or roam through photo files, trying to figure out which image is the correct one for our needs. We don't have any images in the Photos area so?IDK if the Photo area has the option to display images by full name? I would be very concerned given we have set a limit to image file sizes that are embedded in posts or might be uploaded by some member in the future to the Photos area.?

To our editors, website managers, social media managers and publicity chairs, the name is the most critical peice of information. It is how we determine which image is the one most suited for publishing in our newsletter, flyers or uploading to our website and social media sites.?

For us it is so much easier/expedient to go into our GIO Publicity Folder and download the named image file needed.

In Folders, we?can see the name of the image file (such as Conference 2020 logo_web.png or Conference 2020 logo_80kb.gif, or January 2020 Contest logo_2mb.jpeg) and download it. We don't need to see the image at all. It makes it easier for me to delete image files no longer needed.?

Looking at an image displayed in a Photo Album doesn't tell the Editors, Web/Social Media Managers and Publicity Chairs the size of the file, the file type or its intended purpose. And as I said, should GIO restrict images from the Folders area, I would need to revisit size restrictions I have in place for the Photo area.?

We are still a young GIO group (YG refugees) and the intention is to use eventaully allow our Event Chairs to use the Photo Area to share their event and speaker images with other chapters. I have limited the size of the Photo area images to the smallest because we are a basic (free) group under storage limitations. Future photos uploaded to that area won't be used in the same way so resolution isn't important.?

I would very much be opposed to disabling the option to upload graphics/images into folders. To us, full resolution image files in Folders serve a quite different purpose than would reduced image files in Photos.?

To the Mods- it's my understanding that image size restrictions don't apply to images in Folders. Is that the case??

Yes.? That message has not changed since I upgraded groups.io to moderator on YG.? I am so anxious to get this done!!

Re: Transferring group - green button to start transfer missing #transfer

Mine is the same.?? Do you have the "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." status message at the top of your transfer status page???

If you still have it, I would forward the "we have accepted your invitation" EMAIL that you received to [email protected]. There could be a glitch associated with shutting down the process over the past few days that's affecting proper updating of transfer status.

I was able to start the transfer steps last night.? I sent the "Invite" which was accepted and I made moderator of my YG this morning.? I have checked several times since the "moderator" step, but I am not seeing the green "notify/start transfer" button on our existing transfer page.? Is it because this green button step takes time???

So very thankful,

Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer

Folks -- I haven't posted this in 7 days so I'm probably overdue to do so again. My apologies for the inevitable dupes in your email inbox.

Appended below please find detailed instructions on how to conduct a transfer using the Easy Group Transfer method.

Additional resources:
To check status of an ongoing transfer:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948
Overview and instructions WITH SCREENSHOTS:?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

Please note that the way you select an existing transfer for further processing has changed. It used to be a pull-down menu, it is now a list of links.

Regards,
Bruce

Here is the process. It is not fully automated and will take several days.?Do not do anything out of order.

The following instructions are for a full-width desktop/laptop display. This can all be done on mobile too, but it's a lot easier if you don't.

0.1 Go here:?/
0.2 At the bottom of the page, you'll find a link that says "Easy Group Transfer." Click it.
0.3 Scroll to the bottom of the subsequent page and click on the big blue button labelled "Yahoo Group Instructions."
0.4 You should be at?/yahootransfer. Read the instructions carefully, including all the Notes. Bookmark this page, too. You will come back here several times.

1.1 Create your groups.io group and configure it according to your needs. Help with group settings can be found here:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation?(Note: Each new group must be reviewed to confirm that it meets the?Groups.io Terms of Service. This alone could take up to a day.)
1.2 To use the Easy Group Transfer,?you must upgrade the group to the?Premium Yearly?plan.?You can downgrade to the Basic plan later (i.e.: a year from now), if you want.
To do so, select Admin>Upgrade from the left-side menu bar and click on the blue "View/Change Plan" button. Select "Premium Yearly" (one-time cost of?$220) and make your payment.?
(You have now completed Step 1 of the instructions)

2.1 Return to the bookmarked page (/yahootransfer). Click on the big green button at the bottom that says "Set Up New Transfer."
2.2 Enter the name of your Yahoo group and the name of your groups.io group in their respective boxes. The groups.io group is conveniently selected from a pick-list of those groups that you own. Do NOT enter any domain information (i.e.:?leave off[email protected] or @yahoogroups.co.uk),?just the group name.
2.3 Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page.?
(You have now completed Step 2 of the instructions)

3.1 Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]". If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at??
3.2 Return to the bookmarked page?(/yahootransfer) once again. Select the group you are transferring from the Existing Transfers at bottom right (click on its link). A new page will come up, with?a status box at the top. If all is well, it?should?say: "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite."?If it?doesn't?say that, the invitation did not go through. Go back to Step 3.1 above and try again.?
(You have now completed Step 3 of the instructions)

4.1 BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation is often?the longest step in the process, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA).?
4.2 BE EVEN MORE PATIENT.?Do?not?send additional invitations in an attempt to hurry things up.
4.3 You will eventually?receive an email from groups.io stating?that the Yahoo group invitation has been accepted, and providing you with further instructions.?Continue waiting until you receive this email.
(You have now completed Step 4 of the instructions)

5.1 Return to your YAHOO GROUP and log in. Find the "[email protected]" member record (sorting by join date is the easiest way) and promote it to a Moderator. Instructions for this can be found at?.
5.2 Return to the groups.io page that you bookmarked in #0.4 above one more time. Once again, go to the "Existing Transfers" at bottom right and select the group you're ready to transfer. On the resulting page, click the green "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button.?
(You have now completed Step 5 of the instructions)

6.1 BE PATIENT AGAIN. The ability to actually do the transfer depends on how well Yahoo's servers are operating. We all know what that means, right??(If you want to check status, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948).
6.2 You may notice some activity in your new groups.io group, which probably reflects partial completion of the process.?Do not panic.?This is what you wanted to happen!
6.3 When the transfer is done, you will receive an email from groups.io summarizing what it was able to transfer. It will also list whatever things it was?NOT?able to transfer.?Until this email is received, you aren't done yet.
6.4 Rejoice.

Most of us have "been there" with this process before and it all sounds easy in hindsight. Ironically, the same thing that's causing most people to abandon Y!G (server downtime) is exactly the same thing most likely to get in the way of completing the transfer process.?The best time to initiate a transfer is when Yahoo is performing well.?If you procrastinate until things are crashing and burning, delays, incomplete transfers, and other such frustrations can be expected.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

We got a new member this morning. Next to her email it says NC (meaning not confirmed). Does this mean her email address is not confirmed and will it affect her in the group.

Re: Would like to create a collection of valuable postings / threads #wiki

A weakness of hashtags in this application is that you cannot tag a single message. Hashtags are associated with topics, not messages...so if you want to single out one message within a thread, that won't work.

It may be burdensome, but I really believe the wiki is the best way. As Duane suggested, you don't have to copy the entire message to the wiki, just create a list of topics and hyperlink them back to the original message and/or thread. You can even make this wiki page "sticky" if you want.

Override/translate "confirm subscription" message #messages #subscription #settings

Hello,
?
I opened a group for people where some of them don't speak English. Hence, I need the possibility to either override, translate or turn off the "Confirm Your Groups.io Subscription" message that new subscribers receive after sending a first registration email Otherwise, people won't reply and never be able to sign up. Which options do I have?
?
Thanks and?best regards

Transfer questions. #transfer

I'm doing the first of about 5 or 6 Yahoo group transfers.? I followed the process painstakingly.? Sent the invite, once transfer joined, I made it a moderator and updated the transfer job.? All good.? But the status at the top has never changed from "We have received your invite...".? Even after I made it a moderator and after I updated the transfer job.? So, I have no feedback on if we're moving forward or not.?? This is my first of a few of these, and my largest.? Just wondering if I'm being impatient.? The status at the top was pretty good in the initial phases, but I'm not getting anything at the moment.? I haven't seen a button to start the transfer, don't know if there will be one but from the steps, it should just start, as far as I can see.?

Anyone have any suggestions??? Should I just be a bit more patient??

In case this enhancement suggestion hasn't already been made, it'd be nice if the Sent Invitations list could be searched for character strings.

Unless I'm missing something, right now I have to navigate page by page, or take a guess on what page a particular entry might be, in order to find something such as the status of a particular invitation.
You can sort the invites by clicking on the blue header Status.
You can also tidy up the Sent Invitations by deleting accepted invites. Select the checkbox for those accepted and click on Actions, Cancel/Remove Invite.?
This may be a little misleading but it simply takes the invitation out of this display. It does NOT remove them as a member.
