Re: Catch-22: Can't Transfer Yahoo Group
Hi all, but last year when we were having groups.io transfer several large groups, I remember having to make repeated attempts to have YAHOO do stuff -- and this is NOT a problem on the groups.io side, this is Yahoo being messed up. It took me, as group owner and group moderator, multiple attempts to successfully invite groups.io as a member, because yahoo groups was just being funky.? I got the purple message a number of times, and other times it just didn't work.? And then one day, the nth time, I was able to invite them successfully. ? And of course now, yahoo is getting more and more messed up.? So please don't leap to the conclusion that groups.io is evil or conning us or whatever --? I think Mark and all are doing a huge amount of work, and they're trying hard to complete transfers IN SPITE OF how yahoo groups is falling apart. So, one could say "shame on yahoo groups", but there is **zero** reason to say "shame on groups.io". And the meta: And that is really really discouraging, to the people working really hard, the people who developed new things.? Gesine? |

Stan,
But after I turned off the No Email option, shouldn't theyYes, they should have. Could you contact one of those people to find out if they in fact received the Special Notice or not? I guess I'm poking at whether it is the send that maybe has a flaw, or the reporting. In either case, this is sounding more and more like something where the evidence should be reported to support. Re: Members editing and deleting their OWN messages
Tina,
I just sent another test message from my ¡®member¡¯ account, but...If you have more than one subscription (email address) in the group's Members list, both being members (not mods/owners) then one cannot delete the content posted by the other. As far as Groups.io those two addresses represent different people. So, is there any change the test message you sent from your "member" account, was actually posted from a different email address than the address you used to log in? Re: how to enable subscribers to send messages without approval
Ann,
I am new at this and couldn¡¯t figure out how to add a response to theThe Reply function in your email interface should do the trick. As should the Reply link in the bar under each message when viewed within GMF's Messages section. That wouldn't (easily) gather them for you, as you've done here though. No, I didn¡¯t check that, but I know my own email address is registeredRegistered with Groups.io is different from being in the Members list of your group. An account isn't required to post messages by email, but being in your group's Members list is required. /Allow Non Subscribers to Post/ has been checked,¡±Unless you had checked that box. But we can disregard that now that we know it isn't checked. *Answer:* I will double-check this, but I certainly did notIt is probably worth checking your own Posting Privileges. When you create a group the default Spam Control setting is "New Users Moderated". So from that time until you unchecked that box any member that joins would have that Override set in their posting privileges. I think this would include you. On the other hand, the default "Unmoderate After" is one. So after the first time you approved your own message, or the message of any other such member, that person's messages would no longer require moderation (at least, not for that reason). Another place to check is within the Members list itself. Look for posting-related badges (P, M, NuM, or NP) next to their email addresses. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List Either M or NuM would cause that member's messages to require moderation. I suspect I will have my own light bulb moment one of these days.I hope you let us know what you found when that happens. I clearly have more to write in my wiki page on message moderation, but I hope to ensure that it would have answered your question, had I written it in time. So knowing what tripped you up will help me be sure that case is covered. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-Moderation Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Merge Groups
Greg,
Adding information to a forum is the right of anyone in the forumActually, no. The TOS requires that you have the right to add anything you post (that it is not trade-secret, or invasive of someone's privacy, or would be claimed as someone else's copyrighted work). So importing messages in bulk runs the risk that you are importing material which you don't have the right to import. The Easy Yahoo Group Transfer mechanism actually presents a risk in that regard, but Groups.io made a conscious decision that they will rely on the Yahoo Group's admins (owner or mod) running the transfer to make that determination. If Groups.io ever implements a way to move content from one Groups.io group to another I think it would be a mechanism that verifies the source and destination, probably not an import from an exported file. Re: Members editing and deleting their OWN messages
I'm getting confused.? I just went to one group where I'm an owner, one where I'm a mod, one where I'm a member, clicked on the more thingy, on all three groups the option to delete my post was there.? As a mod/owner, it appears I can delete anyone's post.? It looks like it's up to the owner to somehow set what a member can and cannot do?? Where might I find those settings?? this is a very complicated platform for someone who's not techy, and doesn't want to be.

Your answer makes sense, and something I had not considered. I had, in fact, sent the test msg from my Owner account and therefore it made sense I could not delete it from my ¡®member¡¯ account. ?I just sent another test message from my ¡®member¡¯ account, but... Sadly, I still cannot delete. Very odd. Your explanation makes absolute sense, and yet I am experiencing this non-sensical behavior.
Further thoughts? Thanks! Tina |
groups.io error
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHas anyone started receiving the following error? I'm running the latest update of Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64 (KB4524101) ? I have received two of these errors when transmitting a post via e-mail, but when I retransmit the same message (I forward it to the same address) it goes through without error. ? groups.io rejected your message to the following email addresses: [email protected] ([email protected]) For Email Admins Only the recipient's email admin can fix this. Unfortunately, Office 365 support won't be able to help with these kinds of externally reported errors. groups.io gave this error: Ken "When the plain sense of Scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense; therefore, take every word at its primary, ordinary, usual, literal meaning unless the facts of the immediate context, studied in the light of related passages and axiomatic and fundamental truths, indicate clearly otherwise." Re: how to enable subscribers to send messages without approval
Ann, go to the Spam Contol settings in your admin settings.? Nothing should be checked except restricted group.? If everything else is unchecked, to the best of my? knowledge, the group messages should not be moderated.? Then go to the member tab under your admin settings and click on your name and look at your settings.? If you don't have your messages moderated, and you don't have group messages moderated, then something's wrong.? I think.? If I'm wrong, one of the mods will correct me. That's how I have my groups set up and nobody's messages are modded.

how to enable subscribers to send messages without approval

Re? ¡°Or more likely, your members are not posting from their usual email addresses. ¡°? Answer:? I have not checked that; but when I am the one posting, I definitely post from my very only email address.? And three of my own messages have prompted a request to approve the message. ? Re ¡°Have you checked in the Admin section??¡° Answer:? Definitely; multiple times.? I have looked at every setting and have found nothing that looks like it needs a change. ? Re ¡°And check also Admin, Activity.? Message Activity shows you whether email addresses were used that are not registered with Groups.io.¡± Answer:? No, I didn¡¯t check that, but I know my own email address is registered with Groups.io, which suggests that, at least as to my own messages, that is not the issue.? I certainly will check on that issue as to other people¡¯s messages. ? Re ¡°The setting so far considered has been the Group Moderation Setting, but it is possible that individual members have Posting Privileges that override the group setting.?? I suggest that you use the Activity Log to identify a member who submitted a post that was put in the moderation queue. Then go your your Members List and find that person's entry in it; click anywhere on their entry other than the check box. This will take you to that person's "personal" page; scroll down to the bottom of the page just above the Save tab and other functions, and your will find a section called Posting Privileges. The 3rd, 4th, 6th or 7th options will one way or another result in that members having posts held for moderation, sometimes temporarily until they have submitted a predetermined number of posts. ¡° ? Answer:? I will double-check this, but I certainly did not intentionally give any members posting privileges that override the group setting.? I just set up this group maybe a month ago, and I have not set any settings differently for some members from how I set them for other members. ? Re ¡°You are the owner of the group; are you the sole moderator?¡± Answer:? Yep; I am it.? ? Good point.? But I definitely did not check that option. ? Re: ¡°I would also suggest revisiting all your Settings just in case something has been checked by accident.¡± Answer:? I have done that, multiple times.? I can do it again; but I was hoping someone would have a light-bulb moment about some setting that is not intuitively obvious that can affect this issue. ? Thank you again for everyone¡¯s thoughts and suggestions.? I suspect I will have my own light bulb moment one of these days. ? Ann |
Re: Customization Options?
#customize
#links
Ann,
We are just trying to determine if we have other options forYou could put them in a wiki page. You could put them in a downloadable file. You could put them in your group's home page Description You could put them in your group's guidelines You could put them in a Topic which you pin to your Topics list which is best ...That, I think, may depend on how your group uses the links. Most of those have the disadvantage that you have to create a presentation for the links (text description, organization) and format them as clickable links manually. And that presentation is static, requiring manual maintenance. That is, to add a new link someone has to decide where it goes in the presentation and put it in the proper place. And it means you don't get the benefits of allowing users to sort the list of links based on columns, as one can in the Database. and/or customization of the default categories.Other than the sections which you can enable and disable through your group's Settings page (and the Guidelines which you can enable through defining that type of Member Notice), no. The buttons in the left column can't be customized or rearranged by group admins.
