Re: Backlog

The only update I see in Beta is from Friday Nov 15, 2019

As of this morning, we've completely worked through the backlog of Yahoo Group transfer requests. It took 29 days, but we did it. :-)
?
I've removed the option to pay for a priority transfer.
?
I'm still only responding to support emails from premium group owners right now. There's just too much otherwise. Also, the beta group is still moderated.
?
A reminder: please get your transfer requests in by the end of the month.
?
Thanks,
Mark

Backlog

Any info on backlog? Wondering anyone knows?
Some transfer requests made yesterday are still in invite acceptance stage.

Picture Attributions Again

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

A comment was made that if you make an error in attributing a picture to a member incorrectly from the pull-down list, you have to go back to the beginning and start afresh.
That is not the case.

In the pull-down list, you type the first letter of the member you want, then type the same letter again for the next member with the same starting letter.
If you keep typing the same letter repeatedly, the list cycles through all the members with that starting letter, and then goes to the top and starts over.

Hiding contact info from others

We have a very shy member who doesn't want anyone else in the group to know her contact info.? I'd like to hide her completely from the directory listing members can access.? Is there any way to do that?

While I can see Bruce Wilson's point I do agree that the title serves little or no real purpose. If I was told "it has to stay" I would then ask that could it - and the Group Name above it - at least be centre justified rather than left justified; the overall appearance would be much better. Even Introduction as per Bruce's post just "feels" better; a simple "About Us..." wouldn't look too bad either.?

That raises an interesting point; where the Directory is available to Subscribers an Owner / Moderator has no clue when looking at the Directory about whether any given individual's profile is publicly visible or not. Even logging in as an ordinary member may not help much because the Directory is not searchable and a manual search through (perhaps) many pages to find out if a given Subscriber is visible or not would almost certainly be rather tedious.

So... should the Directory provide a simple means for a Owner/Moderator to see if an entry is public or not? Or does it not really matter?

Even if it should now is probably not the time to ask...

Re: How can I add an image to show in the groups list?

Frances,

I did find how to find the Feed page after I followed your explanation, and now I know what the icon discussion is about. I did add an image a while back, but had forgotten I did that. When I read at the place where the icon is added "The group icon is displayed on the mobile home page.", for some reason I thought this icon was for mobile devices like Smartphones and the like. I'm guessing now the word "mobile", must mean something else than I thought.

Re: #suggestion Front Page Format #suggestion

I respectfully disagree.? The group description title points one to exactly where the group description is without having to give it much thought.? Same as in a paper the title Introduction lets one know what follows is the introduction.

Re: #suggestion Front Page Format #suggestion

When things have calmed down, you can post this suggestion to Beta that Mark (Groups.io) monitors. GMF is a peer-to-peer forum only.
That being said, good to start a discussion about such things here first.

Re: Upgrading to Premium

Please review this FAQ:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups

Especially important;
You must be
- either an owner of the Yahoo group, or
- a moderator with both the ¡°Invite and add members¡± and ¡°Add, remove, and change moderator privileges¡± privileges.

Scroll down any page and you will see a link to easy group transfer.

However, read the FAQ first.?

About PayPal - Groups.io uses Stripe to pay. I believe you *may* be able to pay with PayPal if you have a Stripe account. However you don't need a Stripe account to pay.

Yes, but it can be a bit tedious, so you wouldn't want to do it too often.
Richard -- Keep in mind that your changes will only affect the online message archive. The emails have already gone out; if anyone replies, you'll end up doing a split-and-merge all over again. Consider putting both topics on moderation so you can head off any incoming posts with the wrong subject line and redirect them.

The icon should also be used on the Manage My Groups page on a small device, so the information is intentional a bit vague.? BTW, I don't have one of those devices, but I can simulate it by making my browser window very small since the site uses responsive programming.

If those that were transferred didn't already have a GIO account, the default would have been to hide their profile, so having most of them hidden wouldn't be too surprising to me.? There's no setting you can make to change that.

Re: How can I add an image to show in the groups list?

The wording on the cover photo admin page should more correctly read:

Icon

The group icon is displayed on the?[group feed display page.]

the cover photo shows on the ¡°normal¡± mobile (and PC) home page. (At least it¡¯s does on mine)

Re: Visibility of Directory

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thanks to everyone for your replies.?

I understand that every member has the ability to make their profile unavailable to other subscribers, but given that 729 of the 733 subscribers transferred from our Yahoo Group were not visible to this user, it seems more likely that one of my initial settings caused them to be hidden than that all 729 set their own profiles that way. I do know that many of our members our not terribly proficient with computers, so they¡¯re most likely action would be to do nothing. Could I have caused this with one of my initial settings?

In another GIO group that I am a member of, my setting for Profile Privacy defaulted to ¡°Other Members of your Group¡±. Is there something I should¡¯ve done to make that the default for my group?

Thanks again for your patience.

The Directory is an index of subscriber profiles. Each subscriber "owns" their own profile, and if they choose not to create one (or keep it hidden), that's their prerogative.

If you -- as a group Owner -- want every subscriber to "see" every other subscriber you have to share the Member List (Privacy>Members Visible).

Re: Heic photo format (iPhone 11, iOS 13.2.3)

Frances
2 work arounds....

one
Email the pic from the phone to yourself, then save it back. I¡¯ve found that (usually, but it is apple world y¡¯ah know) the image will attach as a jpeg or png, and a further benefit you can email as a reasonable physical size (not museum wall size as apple sizes pics) and?consequently a reasonable file size.?

two
I also have 2 free resizing apps that will save back a copy as a compatible format.?

Ive found that heic doesn¡¯t really save enough space to put up with the BS.?

There is a free app that shows the complete xif file info (file extension, physical size, file size, etc) if you want to check the format.)
