Re: invitee doesn?t appear in the members list

Samuel,
I think you made an important point. Invitations normally have been accepted and were always turnt into memberships ever since I
have the group. So this isn?t the problem. It obviously has to do with the email-adress this person uses. Only in the invitation
protocol I could detect this fault. There appears a different address although in the log in procedure the correct address is
visible.
Now I found out the member?s son configured this email-adress on his iphone for her a long time ago. So in the groups.io protocol
there appears an address that contains the word icloud. I am technically not versed but I suppose that this configuration detour is
responsible for the whole mess.
So I just asked her now to install a new mail adress herself. I hope this will work now.
Thanks again
Victoria

Easiest way to check would be to try to send me an invite and when I accept it, you can verify if the system works.

?

The system works for everyone lese. It?s just this one person where such difficulties appeared, and I suppose the cause now is that the email-adress is not what it appears to be but has some extra things written into the groups.io protocol.

Frances,

?

you wrote: Would it be of interest to have a wiki section for this? Where those of you who have created ?a mini dictionary or some other help sheets in foreign languages could post or link your tools??The GMF wiki is editable by all members of GMF.

?

I already translated all the main terms that appear in the surface structure of groups.io into German and explain precisely what they mean. They are easily retrievable for everyone who is a member of the group.

?

What really makes it so difficult is that every mail which is part of the registration procedure is in English before someone becomes a member. The first hurdle is when an applicant clicks ¡°Apply for membership in this group¡±. What she/he gets then is a text which contains phrases and terms in English he/she doesn?t understand. O.k. So they could use a translator. But many of them already give up at this point because they suppose that to be a member of the group they must be able to write and read in Englisch and that in this case they won?t be able to participate. Although they would greatly benefit from our group, they take the easy way out and go to FB.

?

I am technically not very versed but I suppose it might be more than a big job to have the complete infrastructure of groups.io in different languages as it was the case with yahoo. Therefore my idea is to ask in beta next year to establish translated default registration procedure mails as soon as Mark takes up feature requests again. I already offered to translate these texts concerning registration into German last year, and I know others have offered to help translating texts into their respective languages. I imagine that all this isn?t easy-going, for there might be a technical problem of how to distinguish in which language someone needs to be adressed.

?

So I really have no idea how all this could work but the situation is frustrating for many of us in non-English-speaking countries. But maybe there is a way to at least alleviate the obstacles when trying to enter a group.

Re: invitee doesn?t appear in the members list

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Victoria,

She logges herself in and her name and account are visible to her on the home page,

While logged in, have her click on her name to reveal her logged-in email address.

she can read mails, but she can?t write mails, and she doesn?t see files and databases, photos and so on.

That's what one would expect if the email address she's logged in with is not in your group's Members list. The only reason she can read messages would be that your group's messages must be set to Public in the group's Visibility setting.

I see attempted mailings to the group by her which contain completely different e-Mail adresses with ¡°icloud¡± and ¡°oufza¡± and other words in them.

That probably relates to a confusion on her end about which of her emails is which. Perhaps she has some of them forwarding messages to another. In addition to the address you've invited, and the address shown when she logs in, you should find out the address which is subscribed to your group.

She'll need to be clear on what she's doing with all of these addresses - in Groups.io every address is effectively a different person. So when talking about what she sees or has done, the question is: which she.

But why does she get mails from the group into her outlook?

Because she is subscribed to your group with some email address. To find out which address have her look down at the bottom of the footer of a message she's received from the group. Next to the Unsubscribe link it will show her subscribed address.

And why does she see her name on the front page of the group?

The fact that she is logged in and can see her name and address there only means that she is logged into Groups.io - it does not mean that she is in your group's Members list under that address.

No one from Groups.io management is on this group.? It's a user-to-user help group.

You can change your email address for your account for all groups, but not for individual groups.? To change your email address, see /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts

If you want to use a different email address for some groups, you'd need to create a new account for that email address, then join the groups using that account.

Changing my email address

Fabien

Hello,
I was wondering if I am able to change my email address on the forum, or any other forum. If so, how do I do it if I am not an admin or moderator on that group?

That's what it is.? With the additional limitation that only moderators can post.? Some groups use this for the main group, then have subgroups for discussion.

Have you checked your Email Delivery History?? That should show when the last message was successfully sent to you.

No. One option is to NOT have the group listed in the Directory of groups in the Privacy area of the Settings page.? If someone knows the group name, they could still find it, but it wouldn't be as easy.

(not) announcement-group

3b. Re: 500 This is an announcement group and you do not have
permission to post to it.
From the wiki on starting your group:
Spam Control -
You must choose from among these four options. At least one of these
options must be set as a spam-control measure.
Restricted Membership - Moderators must approve any new subscribers.
Announcement Group - Only Owners and Moderators are allowed to post.
Moderated - ALL messages are held pending moderator approval before
being sent to the group.
I think this is not logical. "Announcement-group" implies that the group is not meant for discussion, and that therefor replying to the group is not allowed.

If a group is meant for one-way communication from moderator(s) to the rest it needs a different name, like "newsletter-group" (maybe there's a better term, I need some sleep now)

groetjes, Ronaldo

Yes, by two means. You can select the part you want to quote before clicking reply. Or you can click the Quote Whole Post button after clicking Reply.

Re: Best path to pull YG here if same name exists here already #askmembers

Indeed.

It is that initial 'free group' that could have automatic 'gifting' that would make it magical though.

As for copyright, things are not simple, but basically, for the most part, the author of any e-mail is automatically the copyright holder of that e-mail's content (unless he writes the e-mail in his capacity as an employee, in which case the employer is the copyright holder, or unless the content is published in the USA, in which case it's even more complicated, because different states have different copyright laws).

Good advice, except that copyright in the USA (and in all other countries that I know of) is a national issue not subject to override by individual states, so copyright law applies uniformly to the entire USA:

Yes, I have checked for bounces, and haven't seen any. Baffled.

remove subscribe link on home page footer

Hi, I am getting ready to transfer a group which will be "restricted".? Is there a way to remove the "Subscribe" link listed under "Group Email Addresses" on the Home page footer of our new group?? All members will be receiving a personal Invite and I would rather not get any requests from the subscribe link.

Have you checked the status of your account on GIO?? Any bounces?? Email delivery history?? Definitely a problem with your email service, but we'll need more information to try to help you nail it down.

Re: are the transferred members and messages still visible on Yahoo Groups

"Transfer" is a misnomer.? Members, messages, files, etc., are copied to Groups.io.? Your Yahoo group remains intact and unmodified.

Many of us have keep the Yahoo group as an archive reference, changing the settings to not allow any new posts there, and including a pointer to groups.io in the Yahoo group's home page.? Of course, after Dec. 14th, all of that Yahoo content is supposed to disappear anyway, eliminating its use as an archive.
