Dan Rawson

Is it possible to export the group data via an eMail request?? I didn't see an eMail address that would do this :-)

Thanks!

The Calendar page has a time zone setting at the lower right.? Maybe that's what you need to change?

Yes, it's still this way.? Allowing things to be moved between main and subgroups doesn't seem to be a high priority.? The most recent mention I found is

Deleting the content and doing a new transfer might work.? That could be a lot of work since the most you can do is delete one Topic at a time.

time on calendar and reminder

When I entered the details of more than one meeting and marked Time Zone as Eastern. The time on the calendar shows at 6:30 AM although I entered 9:30 AM.? Since I have not used the Reminder function before (this is a new group) I am wondering if the reminder for the meeting will show as 6:30 AM instead of 9:30 AM.
If this has been discussed before, refer me to the message number and I will look for it.
Thanks.

move messages to subgroup #yahoo

I have three subgroups that were created after I requested a Yahoo transfer.? The transfer happened but the content went to the main group.? I would like to bulk move the content to the subgroup intended for questions.?

I found several posts from circa 2017 which say that there is no way to move a message from main to a subgroup or between subgroups.? Is that still the case?
Would it work to delete the Yahoo messages in the main group and request a new transfer from Yahoo to the correct subgroup?

thanks!

This rings a very big bell, but I was unable to find the previous threads on this issue (namely legitimate files downloading as "1") in the GMF or beta groups (possibly because searching for '"1"' is just looking for trouble).

Sorry, I can't remember if this turned out to be a browser issue. But have you tried clicking the link in other browsers?

By "this" I assume you mean using an extension in the browser...?

As far as I can see, no-one here mentioned a Firefox extension, but I did find one that worked, called MultiAccountContainers:

With this extension, if you click one of the sessions in the list, it opens a new tab, but the tab doesn't automatically load Groups.io. YOu have to type in (or select from the browser's address field dropdown options) /groups. But from that point onwards the tab is a separate session with a separate login, and all tabs opened from those tabs remain part of that particular session. I particularly like the fact that the session name is noted in the address field, so that you can see which session the tab is from.

You can also save sessions in Firefox manually, but then each session is in a separate window (not just a separate tab).

Chrome is available as a download app for your cell. It may be worth your time to try it out. I use both. It can save logins and autofill just like safari. I use a third party password keeper and it integrates well with Chrome.

Re: Caution: "Content flagged as objectionable" message

Is there a reason given in the email you got?? Could have been someone that got transferred trying to figure out what the Flag icon meant.? It's very difficult to relate the id=xxxxx because I haven't found a way to translate that to a file name.? You might check the Files area (or activity log) to see if any files were recently uploaded, but it my have been there for some time.

I was actually NOT able to get this to work (different sign-ins on different tabs) in my environment (Firefox on Linux).? I found that the last sign-in "won", and all my tabs were using that login.? If there's a way to change the Firefox configuration so that it works, I'd love to know about it :-)

I'm set up in a similar way with an "admin" login for the group where I'm an owner and a "regular" login for all my other groups.? I log out and back in as needed.

Caution: "Content flagged as objectionable" message

I have received a message, apparently from [email protected],?informing me that a member of my group has flagged content as objectionable, including a link:

/g/RandREngines/files?id=1403173
The link does not lead to the location of a file, but attempts to start a download titled "1".
I am not about to download the file to find out what it might be.
I have emailed the group member but received no reply after 24 hours. The member has been with the group since 2004, but never posted.
I suspect this is an attack of some description.
Has anyone else seen this kind of activity?

Yes, but the changes to the main group mentioned in the Wiki will be immediate when you create the subgroup.? After creating the subgroup, it pretty much has a complete set of Settings for itself, so you may want to take time to get them the way you want before the transfer.

Yes. The sub-group would be the board of the agency while the larger group may or may not be part of the board.?

Thank you. I have never dealt with sub-groups so there may be questions. The first that comes to mind is whether the fact that we've already completed the main group transfer would still allow us to move the newly created sub-group at no additional cost. Is this "management" directly related to the first group? That is, are
all 20 members of the management also members of the first group?

If so, then Duane's suggestion of transferring the management Yahoo
group into a management subgroup of the first Groups.io group might be
perfectly appropriate. And it would allow you to use the Easy Yahoo
Group Transfer to copy the messages without paying an additional upgrade
fee.

The Setings page of the management subgroup can be configured to fully
hide that subgroup from the primary group members. They would would be
able to infer that there is or was a subgroup, owing to the changed
address (web and email) format for groups with subgroups.

Re: To those who are new to Groups io

Also, I suspect that there are many who DO read the wiki and previous posts here and find their answers for themselves - as I did - and so, you don't hear from them so much. If only 1% of owners do regrettable things, it will continue to look worse and worse as Groupsio continues to grow and grow, even though it isn't really .. time for a couple more mods?!

Re: What is my "profile" exactly? If set to "public" how can I see what the public version looks like?

Yes.

[BTW, no need to click HOME before going to /myname/.]

Many pages on Groups.io either do not have titles or do not have titles that reflect which page it is. (In this comment of mine, "title" can mean both/either the text that appears in the taskbar or in the window bar and/or some sort of heading near the top of the page itself.) Breadcrumbs are also broken on many pages.

To fix this, I imagine each instance should be reported individually to the bug tracking system.

The bug tracking system at this time, I believe, is simply to send an e-mail to [email protected] (no further instructions are given on how to report bugs, except that the bug report should be well-formed). I'm not sure if users who submit bugs, can follow their progress, but I know of no way that *other* users can.

It also doesn't tell you whether you're editing the "Account Profile" (really the Global Account Profile defaults), or the account profile for a specific group.
Yes.

The only way that a user can know where he is is if he knows how the global setting's page differs from the group-specific settings pages.

1. The global page has this warning near the top: 'Changes made to this profile will also be made to each group profile, with the exception of those fields that you have previously customized in each group profile. To edit those customized fields please go to the specific group profile and click "edit".'

2. On the global page, you can change your user name (the @name).

Of course, this is only a problem for users who open links in multiple tabs simultaneously or who use browsers where pressing the back button and then the forward button again deletes content previously entered.

Also, if editing the account profile for a specific group, there should be a link to the very nice page you pointed me to.
Yes, I fully agree.

RFEs should be posted to the beta list... but not right now. Due to the Yahoogroups thing, the beta list is temporarily closed for non-transfer related discussions until about the end of the year (see ). We should remember to revisit the issue after that.

Re: Message Numbering Query

John,

In the other case, message sequence from Yahoo ended and messages
posted to the new Groups.io started anew from 1. eg: 49998; 49999;
50000; 1; 2; 3;.....
Interesting.

I'm going to guess that those low message numbers were posted to the Groups.io group before the transfer got to stage 4. Otherwise, I think you may want to report this to [email protected] because the message numbering should only increase as messages are posted or imported.

Re: transferring Yahoo message archive to an active group

Emma,

Yahoo message history. Can we transfer over our Yahoo archive without
wiping out the messages and member info already posted to the new
group?
Yes.

Any member email addresses already present in the Groups.io group will be skipped when the transfer is copying the Yahoo Group's Membership list. Or, when you set up the transfer you can uncheck the Transfer Members box if you've already brought over the members and the transfer would only add back "deadwood" addresses.

For messages, the Yahoo Group messages will post at message numbers sequential from the existing messages. Possibly intermingling, if there are people actively posting during the transfer. This normally isn't a big problem, as the Messages/Topics lists are sorted by date, not number.
