There is a "New Page" button, if that's what you're talking about.

Rich; in order to make the above work you would need to give editing rights to your membership, and that would be "wiki - wide".

That might not be a good idea.

I experienced the same thing with a recent test. It's a recipe for a lot of miscommunication.

As a test, with an unsubscribed e-mail address, I attempted to join the subgroup directly. I got this reply:

-------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your interest in Groups.io and the
group **subgroup** @maingroupname.groups.io. To complete
your subscription, please reply to this email.
-------------------------------------------------------

I replied, and the moderator approved the subscription, and then I got this welcome message:

-------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the **maingroup** @maingroupname.groups.io
group at Groups.io, a free, easy-to-use email group
service. Please take a moment to review this message.

You can visit your group, start reading messages and
posting them here: /g/maingroupname

The email address for this group is: [email protected].
...etc.
-------------------------------------------------------

No warning is given of the fact that the user had joined the main group and not the subgroup.

The subgroup's welcome message is included in the mail (in the middle of it, somewhere), so I suppose one could add in big capital letters something like "YOU ARE NOT YET SUBSCRIBED TO THE LIST THAT YOU WERE TRYING TO SUBSCRIBE TO, DESPITE APPEARANCES".

I don't mind that one can't join a subgroup directly, but then at least the responses from Groups.io should make it clear that you're trying to join a group that you're not yet allowed to join, OR should make it clearer that you need to re-attempt to join the subgroup a second time after you received the first welcome message.

Dave -- That's really not very surprising. For some time, people were forced to create a Yahoo Mail account as a precondition of joining a Yahoo Group. Many such accounts have subsequently fallen into disuse.

Anybody have any ideas why this is?
Yahoo has been purging inactive Yahoo Mail accounts over the past year or so. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/32891421#18222?for a discussion.

I don't think you can...a big reason why I don't like to put onHover selectors or mouseover events in my web sites.

Actually, Yahoo originally gave just 7 days notice (maybe even less) before the time where new attachments, files, and photos would be allowed.? That was quickly changed to 14 days, and the 2 months is when these files would be deleted. ?

I understand the need to change business priorities, but for a company as large as Yahoo/Verizon they clearly failed in their handling of the situation. ?

The individuals concerned were probably on no emails, so your "old" group never sent emails to them. Then the members either changed email addresses and didn't update their Yahoo memberships either because they had forgotten about them or - worse case scenario - died.

When they were migrated to Groups.io part of that process involved them being sent a message that disregarded the "no emails" flag, and those emails promptly bounced.

As (I think) Bruce said the other day a 554 error is permanent. You can in all probability delete those bouncing addresses without worrying about it, although my personal preference is to check the individuals' activity records just in case there is evidence of recent involvement.

Why are Yahoo addresses in the majority? For the simple reason that Yahoo addresses are so commonplace. If you look at the list of "surviving" members I would expect you to find that Yahoo addresses are in the majority there as well.

You are, I suspect, the most recent person to comment on a commonly experienced phenomenon.

Re: Non-member request to join sub-group subscribes only to parent group

It would be a better user experience in this scenario (request to join sub-group by person who is not yet in main group) if they were added to both in a single operation.
Absolutely!? If accurate, the process Yusuf describes is going to be a mess if not streamlined. ?

Ah; your group is publicly listed; it is this one, and is the second one in the search return that I linked in my previous post.

However, this has revealed another bit of weirdness in the way the A - Z list of groups is set out. By way of example the "A" list sets out all the groups with an upper case A first, and once it has exhausted those it starts again with a list starting with a lower case a. It is not truly alphabetical; this may be something for beta once the hue and cry has subsided.

Which "custom Welcome notice" will the transfer agent use?

Hello

1. I created two welcome notices already -- one for the members who join via the Yahoogroups transfer and one to be used later for members who join in the usual way. I marked the YG one as "active" and the other one as non-active. Will that active notice then be sent to members who are added from the Yahoogroup?

2. What other information is included in the message that is sent to members who have been moved? Can I see an example of such a message anywhere, please?

Thanks
Samuel

The "members" information from IgnoredAmbience's scripts also include all this information, although at present in JSON format, not CSV. And converting it to CSV using e.g. AutoIt is slightly beyond my abilities since not every entry has the same fields, and I don't know how many possible different fields there are.

For example:

{
"yid": "myname",
"bounceStatus": "HARDBOUNCING",
"date": 988559966,
"postingStatus": "DEFAULT",
"yalias": "myname",
"emailPreference": "NONE",
"userId": 52339488,
"fileAccess": true,
"subscriptionStatus": "NORMAL",
"deliveryType": "NONE",
"bounceDate": 1094362187,
"isEmailHidden": false,
"index": 0,
"memberStatus": "BOUNCED",
"email": "121324.5476@..."
},

It's slightly difficult to comment in detail without knowing the name of your group; is it by any chance one of the groups on this list? If it isn't, then either (a) your group has indeed vanished from the public list, or (b) you need to sort out your listed keywords!

Bouncing and Yahoo Addresses #bouncedemails

Re: How to use the wiki option

Followed your suggestion,?Frances, to visit the GMF wiki. I didn't see any option to revert an edit. Would I have that option as group owner in a wiki for my group?? Also, would I have the option to create an article's?discussion page?

Thanks,

Group Not Listed in Public Directory

For some reason our group - antique radios - is no longer listed under .io's Publicly Listed Groups. It appeared when the group was first created a couple of weeks ago but disappeared soon afterward. Messages are publicly visible and Admin Privacy Visibility is set to "Group listed in directory, publicly viewable messages."

Might there be another setting somewhere that I'm missing?

-Thanks

See the GMF wiki and for examples. The online wiki editor is essentially the same as the one that you use to create a new message.

Have a look at the Wiki here on GMF, /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home? It may give you an idea for one possible use.? Some groups don't enable it, others use it heavily, and everything in between.? It can be used for anything that is revised frequently, as well as things that are fairly static.? By default, any member can edit a page, but you have the option on each page to only allow moderators to edit it.? Unlike Files, it doesn't use any of the group's storage space, except for any photos within it.

Re: How to use the wiki option

Well, visit the GMF wiki to see how we use it.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home

On a travel group that I belong to, we use it for a links library.
On another group, we used it for planning a trip.
Basically it is a mini version of Wikipedia!
Do with it whatever you wish.
Usually pages are editable by all members but you can lock pages.
