My Welcome letter available to use as a template

I spent a while creating a Welcome letter for the upcoming transfer. It's a little long, but covers a few of the contingencies and questions I'm expecting.

You're welcome to use it as a template and make mods to fix your group.

E-mail me offline and I'll send you the Word doc.

Transfer Notices

I have a number of groups projected to complete within the next few days and want to create/edit the appropriate notices to be issued. What, exactly, will be sent out when?

I understand that a notice will be sent out to all (?) / all active (?) transferred members of the imported Yahoo group upon completion of the transfer.

This implies that members of multiple subgroups will receive multiple transfer completion notices. Correct?

What will be the content of this standard GIO message besides the notice of completion and a link to logon and to set a password? Please post a sample message.

What other messages will be sent out upon transfer completion?
The current group Welcome message?
The current group Guidelines message?

If so will they be sent out simultaneously with the GIO message or delayed?

I am trying to prevent any conflicting message content that could cause confusion in the recipients.

BTW, Access to the management of group notices is very difficult to find; For those looking it is:

Group >> Admin >> Settings >> Member Notices (at the TOP of the page!)

Bob -- If members join by any means other than accepting the invitation (Direct Add, sending a +subscribe email, clicking "Join This Group" on the home page), such invitations remain in limbo, and continue to display as "sent" until you get around to deleting them.

If you really want to check up on this, open any record in the Member List and click the "Activity History" button at the top of the resulting page. The earliest log entry should tell you how that person managed to get into the group.

PayPal

If PayPal is used, each donation accumulates at PayPal and can be withdrawn once.

Members don't expose their credit card info if they use PayPal. I've used PayPal since its inception and have never had any issue. In fact, if a website where I'm buying something offers PayPal, I always select that.

I don't care if eleven individuals send me a $10 check by postal mail. I'm flexible. Hey, I'm in California...

Re: Welcome Message Not Sent After Transition

Here are two screen shots for the Member Notices settings for the last subgroup I have waiting in the transfer queue. (I've masked the real name of my group.) Please let me know if anyone can spot something wrong with this setup.

The transfer for this group will take a few days more to complete. I'll let you know the results.

That's correct. Please read?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup?before you get too excited about this.

Yes. Here is from the FAQ on transferring:

4 (a) Can I transfer a Yahoo Group into a Subgroup?
?
Yes. Upgrading your Primary Group to the Premium Yearly plan covers your subgroups as well. No extra fee to transfer YG into subgroups.
?
However ?the expedite fee (3 (b) above) only applies to a single transfer. not to subgroups. Your subgroups will maintain their place in the transfer queue.
?
Note: you can't create any subgroups until the primary group gets approved. For more info on subgroups, see Why use a Subgroup for more information about subgroups.?
?
4 (b) Can I transfer more than one Yahoo Group into one Groups.io group?
?
Yes. The Premium Yearly plan allows multiple Yahoo Groups to be transferred to your Primary group and/or its subgroups. Be sure to transfer one at a time to avoid problems.
?
If you transfer more than one Yahoo Group into the same Primary or Subgroup the additional content appends to what's already been transferred. Any members already present in the Groups.io group will not be transferred again by later transfers.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Can you please clarify?

If a main Group is made premium and transferred by Groups.io can the owner request that groups.io transfer another group into the main group as a subgroup for free?

Transfers to a subgroup of a paid group do not have another charge, only to a main group.

Also, can someone be made a Moderator of the subgroup without becoming a Moderator of the main group?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think they can.? I know that moderators of the main group can also moderate subgroups if they have permission.

?If you make someone an owner, they automatically are moderators.?
In Admin, Members, click on the person's name that you want to promote.?
Choose from the dropdown menu - owner or moderator.
Then a menu opens with permissions. Tick those that you want them to have.
Don't forget to scroll down and save.

Be very cautious when giving Set Moderator Privileges to anyone. A Moderator with that box checked can promote themselves to "Owner" and demote the real owner to member and even remove them from membership. It is a Permission with all the powers of being an owner.

Yes. It's entirely possible to have different sets of moderators for each subgroup, with or without some overlap. The main group owner(s) will always have ultimate control, the subgroups cannot become wholly independent.

Hi all, i am a new user of the group. I need to understand something: Since i am trying to find the button to set a member as a moderator, i started looking for the needed option. But if I click on the member's actions i see set moderation or something like that. How can I set him as owner / moderator? cause, if i check an option, the other will be unchecked. Thanks for helping me.

Not that I know of.

I highly recommend that you leave all column widths at zero (the default) and let your browser auto-format the table to fit the page width.?

No, but you can hide that column by clicking on the ID button at the bottom of the database view.

Are you a newly migrated group?

You may have had a lot of essentially inactive members who had "no emails" set. Notwithstanding that setting they will have received notifications about the move to Groups.io. Those notifications may well have been enough to make them realise that they had lost interest in the group; they had probably forgotten that they were members and this change was just the nudge they needed to leave once and for all.

You might not have wanted the "unsubscribes" but the message you quoted makes it clear that the person concerned left of their own accord.

You might find that you suddenly get a flurry of messages advising you of subscribers being "removed because a message was marked as spam"; if that starts happening see here.

If you've just transferred from YG, it's not unusual to get a lot of these.? For several years it's been difficult, if not impossible, to leave a YG.? Members have changed their subscriptions to No Email and forgotten about them.? Now when they're notified of the transfer, there's a link that makes it easy for them to unsubscribe.

If you have just moved the group, this is very common. Most of the people leaving probably didn't know they were still subscribed. Others may have not "gotten the message" and don't know what this mysterious groups.io thing is.

Appended below is an example Member Notice of type "Goodbye." This might help some people reconsider, although it hasn't had the desired effect in my own group.

You can send each one a follow-up email if you want, but there is no way to force people to remain.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce

This is the auto-responder for the GROUPNAME group on groups.io. You are receiving this message because you have chosen to unsubscribe from our collaboration group.

We're sorry to see you go! If you change your mind, please send a blank email [email protected]?. If you are still an active member your account on this group will soon be reinstated.?

If you no longer wish to be a member, we'd appreciate the courtesy a reply to this message letting us know what we could have done better. Whatever the reason, we hope to soon meet again.

Kind regards,
The GROUPNAME Moderators
