Request for [GMF Moderators]

Do you think it's possible for the moderators to add [mod] to your Display Name?

There are lots of messages that come through [GMF] and it sure would make it easier to see messages coming from you folks.

As a newbie here, it would also make it easier to identify y'all.

Thanks for considering it.

If you'd read the information when setting up the group to transfer into, you'd have read that you must have at least one choice in the Spam Control set.? It sounds to me like you chose Unmoderate After x Messages.? If you'd chosen Restricted instead, all members would be approved and not need a message approved.? There will never be an option for automatic approval without moderating any messages.

Re: Importing/Uploading Messages to a Groups.IO Group

@M K

I've seen this mentioned a few times. However, PGO doesn't export directly to PDF, you'd need an intermediate step. Current (v4.0.897) options under 'Group/Export messages' are:

The most likely there would be multiple HTML files; load them in to a browser and use 'Print to PDF' (or equivalent). PGO's own 'Print message' option only prints one message at a time, and 'Export to Folder' only creates a .pg4 file (SQLite, I think).

Only if she reapplies to join or you send her an invitation; the deletion of an application either deliberately or because it time - expires cannot be reversed.

FWIW in my experience it is not unusual for applicants to fail to respond to both the "confirmation request" sent by Groups.io and / or the Pending Subsciption message set up by a moderator.

Do you moderate by email or using the web UI? I suspect the former. I suggest that you check your spam box to see if anything relevant got stuck there, and also check your Activity Log for Message to +owner which might tell you if she sent a message or not. I say "might" because it is possible that such activities are not retained if the application times out; it's something that I have never had to check.

It might be that she is "being economical with the truth". :)

BTW it is just possible that there is another explanation entirely, but it could only apply if she is in the UK.

If you "Claim a Subscription Request" the request will not be automatically deleted in 14 days:

The "Pending Subscription Message" (sent to someone who applies to join) and the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice that is sent to Owner/Moderator are both be sent at the same time, and a 14 day clock before the subscription application is automatically deleted will be started.

The "Pending Subscription Message" will not delay the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice, however an Owner/Moderator can put the 14 day clock on hold by 'Claiming' the application.
Click on "View Pending Member" in the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice email,
or go to the group's website Admin > Members
Select "Pending Members" (in the drop-down Members menu) if not already shown
Click on the row (not the check box) of the Pending Member
Click on "Claim Sub" at bottom of the page
The words "Claimed by <your name>" will appear in a blue box to the right of the applicant's email address
Now the 14 day clock has been stopped and only you can approve this Subscription by email.
NOTE: All Owners and any Moderator (with appropriate privileges) can still approve this Subscription at anytime at the website.
This allows you to wait until you get a reply to the "Pending Subscription Message".

To resend the "Pending Subscription Message" (if you get no response):
Check the box at the left end of that Pending Member's row
Select "Resend Pending Membership Notice" in the drop-down "Actions" menu
Click "Yes" in the "Verify Action" dialog window.

Jan -- If she actually replied, you will find her response in her member record. Go to Admin>Members, click open her member record (anywhere on that row), then click the "+owner Message" button at the top.

Now, that she is responding, I can I get her back?

Can she just reply, and if so, is there a time limit?
Send her an invitation (Admin>Invite) and have her click on the link in that invitation. New subscribers who accept invitations do not go into Pending status.

Bruce

Re: Pending member automatically rejected after 14 days

Well, the easy way now, I think, is to send the potential member an invitation, if you are satisfied with them as members. Or Direct Add if you are premium. (Invited people don't get a pending subscription notice.)

However there are some strategies for the future in the wiki.

If they don't reply: you can resend if they don't reply within a reasonable time.
To resend the "Pending Subscription Message" (if you get no response):
Check the box at the left end of that Pending Member's row
Select "Resend Pending Membership Notice" in the drop-down "Actions" menu
Click "Yes" in the "Verify Action" dialog window.
If they don't reply to the second probe either or don't meet your criteria, reject their request.

I received an email this morning from one of those members, replying to the latest Pending member email I sent.? This member says she has replied to at least of my previous emails, but I never go them.? Now, that she is responding, I can I get her back?

Can she just reply, and if so, is there a time limit?

Thanks, again.

Re: Identifying a Premium list

Frances,
? That is where I saw that attachments had 3.2 GB of image storage, but as far as I know it is a Basic (Free) list created in 2017.
That list owner has been complaining that a new list I created has an image storage limit because I limit attachment size and image size
while his list does not because most all their images are attachments to messages.? Maybe he actually now has a Premium list and his
image limit is now 10GB, but he hasn't admitted to that it isn't a Basic (Free) list.??

Perhaps the list type, Basic, Premium, Enterprise; should be listed on the Home Page and in the groups directory.? And avoid jumping
to conclusions.

Re: Identifying a Premium list

Edited

Evidently bouncing messages or deleting images when 1 GB image storage is reached does not actually happen.? 3.2 GB of image storage is way, way over the 1GB limit and
the list is not bouncing messages, deleting old attachments, or preventing storing of message attachment images, image storage just keeps growing and growing.

There is no way to upload messages into a GIO group or subgroup and get them into the same form as the GIO messages.?

However, there is software that will convert mbox files to various other formats. An example is??.

Use the feature as it was intended: wait until a member posts, and then approve his/her message.
Sure, I get that function. But I just transferred a fully functioning list. As I said, there should be a better way. I don't NEED to approve each post like they're new. They're not new. Fro lists bulk added from Yahoo, where I paid a pretty penny for that functionality, there's no point in not flagging all of them as not requiring moderation, and a lot of reason for those imported addresses to be flagged as not requiring moderation.

The only option is to have to manually reapprove 1000s of people? That's not a feature. That is, as I point out, painful. For each post I would have to manually go approve them. When they were already approved under Yahoo.

This is a transfer question. For those users migrated from Yahoo, I shouldn't have to go re-approve them manually. Or I should have an option to approve them all before or after the migration somewhere.

That will unmoderate him/her automatically, depending on your group's Unmoderate After selection. This minimizes your effort, and defers it until needed. And, because you can approve messages using the web or by email (reply to the Message Approval Needed notice), it is something you can do whichever way is easiest for you at the moment. Lurkers who don't post don't take up any of your time.
It doesn't minimize my effort, it creates a lot of NEW effort. On a list where people communicate, people post, and their message doesn't show up until I get around to approving it. That causes people to wonder why their email is delayed.

To say Lurkers don't take up any of my time is nonsensical. If everyone was approved, then none of this would take up any of my time. If I had the ability to apply bulk changes to the list, even this email wouldn't be taking up my time.

On most modern interfaces, where I can only see 20 people at a time (out of 1000s), I'm presented with an option when I Select All on the page for whether I want to select all users/all messages/all data. Then I just bulk approve/change all of them.

> b) I don't want new users to be moderated. Is there a path to this?
You must choose (at least) one of the boxes in the Spam Control section of your group's Settings page. So if not New Users Moderated, Restricted Membership is your next most likely choice.
Like approving messages, you can approve membership requests by web or email, whichever is most convenient at the moment.
Yes, swell I get that. Note I don't agree with it, because that's also a option that I should have available to me. It should be possible to permit people to just sign up. If that causes me spam, I could just change to a different moderation system. Given it hasn't been a problem for me, on a list that's existed since 1999, I'm not that worried about it.

> I want people to be able to join, and then not be moderated. That was
> a choice for us in Yahoo Groups, and it was never a problem.
Both unrestricted and unmoderated is not an option here. It may not have been a problem for your Yahoo Group, but many Yahoo Groups were overrun by spammers when their admins stopped paying attention. Groups.io does not want that happening here.
Well, most importantly, I wish I'd realized that philosophy before I migrated. Because that should be an option.

Heck, make it an option that it's renewable, or with a limit. But I should be able to have an unrestricted unmoderated group.

> Similarly, if I want to change the moderation setting for all
members, > I don't appear to be able to select all, just 20 at a time?
You can change the number of members per page, up to 100, using the Items Per Page setting on the Preferences in your Account. There is an "Infinite Scroll" option for that setting, but others have reported problems with that choice on some pages, so I don't recommend it.
Great, so what you're saying is the workaround is lousy, and doesn't work really well. Even more support for a "select all" option somewhere.

I can semi-bulk approve everyone to not be moderated (100 at a time). OK, that's better than 20 at a time at least. I suggest that if that's the case, I should ALSO be able to just "Select ALL" on that interface. If I can do it a painful way, I should also be able to do it a simple way.

Re: Identifying a Premium list

No this is a group created back in 2017 and then closed their YG site Christmas of 2017 after the list transferred.
Evidently they have not enabled the option to delete old attachments if they exceed the 1 GB storage limit, so they are allowed to exceed the 1 GB max image storage limit without
having to convert to a Premium list.? Members of that group are complaining on a list I just transferred that for the new list the photos are stored in Photo albums which limits the
image storage capacity to 1GB while if the images are attachments there is not practical limit.

? I'm not sure after downsizing 3 GB of images stored in YG photos in order to transfer images and fit?under the 1GB image limit, that I want to tell subscribers that it the images had instead been
stored as attachments they wouldn't have needed to be downsized.? Maybe I'll tell them that after the YG lists transfers end in December; this loophole will be closed.

Re: Identifying a Premium list

Okay, the answer I hope!

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos

"The second method is available to all subscribers on a group.

Using the Tabs as above select Files or Photos. Towards the bottom of the either page there are details of the storage occupied by Files or Photos, depending on the Tab selected. On the Photos page there is also a figure of storage used by Attachments which share space with Photos. An example from a "Photos" section is shown below."
