Re: Resizing photos?

Is there really no way to do a bulk resize operation?

I'm a relatively new co-owner (one of the original owners has moved on) of a group that was started almost 7 years ago, and as a result of recently hitting the storage limit I've realized that no one had ever set up a resize for images.

I'd love to be able to do a resize on all images, but clearly the steps Chris outlined earlier would be prohibitive.

First, the 2018 Florida bill was to STAY On Daylight Savings time year round. ? Not stay on EST. But it was not approved by Congress. So yes, Floridians will continue to change clocks.?

This is a little complicated as to which states have passed what but bottom line is Congress must approve any changes. Which doesn¡¯t look likely soon as far as I can tell. For one thing it would be a nightmare for businesses to have a nationwide checkerboard of times to deal with.?

Here¡¯s a recent short article

Thanks for clarifying that. FL moved to standard time and voted to not return to DST so we will remain on EST when the 2020 time change to DST rolls around.?

It is a bit confusing because of all the time zones around the world and whether they observe daylight saving time, along with the different dates that it starts and ends.? By selecting Eastern time with EDT at the end, you'll have the correct one and it will adjust as needed.

Re: How to open files from Files section in browser

I checked our IO G files and they are viewable. Our image files give me an option to "view" or download. The PDF files open in view (no prompt to download). I don't have any HTML or TXT or other file types.?
If viewing them online is a priority, you could convert your file to a PDF or image file before uploading.?

Skip -- Most functions of Yahoo Groups will clearly be going away, come December 14, along with all associated online storage. Files and Photos? Gone. Digest mode? Gone. Online message archive? Gone. The only thing remaining will be a listserv- or mailman-type mailing list.

Not sure a new mail app of any kind is anything to be thrilled about. For what it's worth, groups.io is working on an app, too.

They are fixing our complaints by scrapping the old platform.

Subject: Evolution of Yahoo Groups

Dear Group Moderators and Members,

Thank you for your commitment to Yahoo and for helping us define the power of digital communities. Eighteen years ago, we combined the functionality of a site called eGroups.com with a precursor community platform called Yahoo Clubs to launch Yahoo Groups. Since then, you and millions of others have helped prove our hypothesis, by creating and joining more than 10 Million groups.

A lot has changed about the Internet since 2001, including the ways most people now use Yahoo Groups. Today, most Yahoo Groups activity happens in your email inbox, not on the bulletin boards where Yahoo Groups started in the pre-smartphone age. Increasingly, people want content and connections coming directly to them, and this is why we continue to invest in Yahoo Mail -- including the recent launch of a new that is currently the highest-rated email app in the App Store and Google Play.

So, as our users¡¯ habits have evolved, we have begun the process of evolving our approach to help active Yahoo Groups thrive and migrate to our email platform. To help you plan for these changes, below is the schedule of how this transition will happen.

Beginning October 28, 2019:

  • Users will be able to join a Yahoo Group only through an invite from the Group Moderator or by submitting a request to join a Group, which requires approval by the Group Moderator.
  • Since we are moving Group communication from posting on message boards to email distribution, uploading and hosting of new content will also be disabled on the Yahoo Groups website.

Beginning December 14, 2019:

  • All Groups will be made private and any content that was previously uploaded via the website will be removed. We believe privacy is critical and made this decision to better align with our overall principles.
  • If you would like to keep any of the content you¡¯ve posted or stored in the past within your Yahoo Group, please download it by December 14 by accessing .

As these dates get closer, we will send follow-up reminders. More information about the upcoming changes can be found .

While this evolution of Yahoo Groups is inspired by how we see the platform being used today, we know change can be difficult. Here are a few important facts as we make this transition:

1. Yahoo Groups is not going away - We know that our users are deeply passionate about connecting around shared interests, and we are evolving Groups to better align with how you use it today.

2. New groups can still be formed - Users can continue to connect with others around their common bonds and interests. From animal rescues to sporting and activity groups, civic organizations to local PTAs, members of our Yahoo Groups will remain connected and able to share their activities and interests. All of the content that you have shared previously on the website, can continue to be shared via email.

We know that Yahoo Groups is an important online extension of your real-life group of friends, interests and communities, and we are committed to supporting communities that rely on Yahoo Groups. Thanks for coming along with us this far. We look forward to seeing where the technology -- and you -- take us in the decades to come.

Sincerely,
The Groups Team

Make sure you have good keywords.
Up until sometime last week I must admit I had paid little attention to the findability of the group of which I am a co - owner, but my interest was sparked by what was a rather tedious and on beta. There was one worthwhile idea suggested by one contributor and I will take the opportunity of passing it on here.

It is quite hard - perhaps impossible - to include a comprehensive list of keywords into the "group description" but this can be got around by just typing a list of random but relevant likely keywords that anyone searching for a specific group might use under the main body of the description. To minimise its visual impact on anyone reading the description such a list can be spread along a couple of lines reduced to font size 8; don't type the keywords as a list in a column.

There is also another trick (that the group's real owner spotted) that can reduce the appearance of any such list to "invisible"!

Using the Find or Create a Group search provided by Groups.io paste the following into the search box: Larkspur WW2 WS19 AFV and click Search. It will find one group; click on it to go to the home page. Now find the keywords! They are there but done in such a way that they do not distract the reader.

Given that Groups.io does not seem to provide any guidance about keywords and finding a group, the objective behind all this is to perhaps prepare a section for the GMF wiki. I would have raised the matter earlier but with everything else that is going on I decided to wait, however this query has prompted me to post this now. The same or similar search terms will also work on Google, but I have recently edited the list and I don't think Google has caught up yet!

Linda -- This is a new one on me. I cannot know for sure, but it sounds like something got out of sync during Yahoo export.

Is there any way to edit the timestamp on messages that were transferred over?? There are two messages that are somehow time stamped in 1999 (which is 2 years before our Yahoo Group started), but reading the content tells me it should be sometime in 2004.
There is no way to alter message date/timestamps.

Check your transfer status per?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/21952? ?Does it say "We have received your invite and will accept it soon?" If so, all you can do is wait. If not, you need to go back to your Yahoo Group and resend it.

Keep trying until it works. Some folks have had more success using a different device/browser, or clearing browser cookies.

If you don't have adequate permissions to both send invitations and promote the transfer agent to a Moderator, find someone who does.

Good luck,
Bruce

Steve -- I have to acknowledge the possibility that Yahoo Groups is simply broken in this regard. Nothing else seems to work with any reliability.

That said, did you ever take accept the OATH pledge (terms of service) after the last Yahoo data breach? That may have some bearing on it. Also, do you have a blue crown or a green crown? If your crown is green, then you are a Moderator, no matter what the tooltip says when you hover over it.

Group members are happy and chatting while we wait and I am confident, everything will be fine.

Re: Two questions about new members joining

On Yahoo a box pops up asking why they want to join. We use it to screen and accept or reject members. We want that box. ?The second application contains several questions they must send in. We want to that to go to them automatically after we approve them as members.?
In addition we have about 6 welcome messages that have various purposes - guiding them around the forum, rules of the road, etc. We want those to also go out upon approval for membership - automatically

You can tweak your Welcome notice, set up a group guidelines email that is sent on a schedule, and you can screen pending subscriptions though a Pending Subscription Notice. Through a combination, you should be able to achieve what you want.
Plus of course, you can make one or more posts into stickies.

Two questions about new members joining

We¡¯ve just been transferred and have two questions regarding new members joining.

We have two different applications. The first occurs when they click join (all members must be approved; this is a closed, private all-moderated group). On Yahoo a box pops up asking why they want to join. We use it to screen and accept or reject members. We want that box. The second application contains several questions they must send in. We want to that to go to them automatically after we approve them as members.

In addition we have about 6 welcome messages that have various purposes - guiding them around the forum, rules of the road, etc. We want those to also go out upon approval for membership - automatically.

Can you tell me if these things are possible and if they are, how would I go about setting up each one?

Thank you very much -

So I can use CDT, but then when we actually go back to DT, I'll have to change to EDT.?

I've never seen a time zone list that doesn't take care of DT and ST.
Eric,

I also find the timezone naming confusing.

However, it does seem to work if you just ignore where it says DT and the UTC offset. At least, mine says UTC-3 ADT and yet it is displaying my correct time now.

I think it may be that the intention of the label was to identify the timezone and whether or not daylight savings? is used for that timezone. Either that or the labels were supposed to change to reflect when DST ended, but that didn't happen.

I assume from your post that you are in Eastern timezone. Set your choice to Eastern Time. While it says something about EDT, you can check and see that your display time is actually correct. With the change to EDT in the spring, you won't have to change your preference.

Re: Member Switchover Timing

Gilbert,
Thanks for your information. I created my groups at Groups.io with a different email address, but then added my Yahoo email that I used to create the Yahoo groups I am transferring. Since I read your advice, I removed the Yahoo owner email so it will get transferred back here with my group members. Nostalgia counts for something.?
