If there are no other members in your Groups.io group, you are already the Owner.

I am really only concerned about messages. Assuming the above is correct, what is the recommended path to follow regarding the timing of the member switch overs? I don't relish the prospect of manually importing volumes of messages to the GIO subgroups even if it is possible to correctly set dates and ownerships.

Should I send out invites, block further posts to Yahoo groups and force an immediate switch over to the target GIO subgroups?
Your mileage may vary, depending largely on message volume and the general level of ongoing activity. But I think you should strongly consider that.?

Should I create temporary GIO subgroups for immediate usage and move the messages to the true target GIO subgroups subsequent to import completion?
I do not recommend this, because...

Is it possible for a group owner to edit / reset posted message dates and ownership?
No.

Will threads be preserved (indexed?) across the import - subsequent posts divide?
I know that the threading algorithm is applied to imported messages in order to create topics, and much of the server load involved in the import involves the reconstruction of those threads. However, I wouldn't hang my hat on that working across the "divide" (as you so astutely put it). :-)

I expect that the GIO import process will preserve all Yahoo content attributes such as dates and ownership as related to the imported member lists. If a member subscribes to a GIO subgroup prior to the GIO import with the identical email address will that mess up any ownership or attribute connections?
I have heard conflicting reports. It's supposed to be retained, and Mark has stated that if this was so, it's unintentional (i.e.: a bug).

For what it's worth, there are mechanisms in place to reassign the ownership of photos, but not of files.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: New Group owner = how to delete messages

It is easy to delete just a few.

In the message, click on the arrow beside the date. You will see quite a few options including delete.
If it has already been sent out, you can't retract it. However you can certainly take it out of your message archive.
Not sure about timeline of queuing up messages for those that get the digest.

Does anyone know how I can delete old messages?

New Group owner = how to delete messages

Is it possible to delete previously "approved" messages? We might approve a message in error and I can't see how to remove it. Also, how long to messages stay online...thanks...gary

Member Switchover Timing

Hello,

All of my groups/subgroups are in the "Stage 3 of 4" import queue but with expected completion times of about a month.

AIUI, "Stage 1 of 4" exported a snapshot of all the available Yahoo group content and has safely saved it on Groups.io storage so there is no danger of loss of any historical content up to the point of export. The content is primarily just messages and static files - no photos, attachments, databases or such. Re: Need some help new here

Do you have two email accounts with Groups.io?

Or are you not logged in?

Re: Can I Bulk Remove Messages

Dale, why not wait for support to fix whatever is broken?? You paid for that and he'll do that.? ?You don't want to throw away $930.? You could make things worse at this point.? He'll respond to you, just give it some time.
Terri

Re: "Average Pace" of transfers

I'd say things have speeded up.? We entered Stage 3 of 4 at 9 p.m. last night with 1,125 groups ahead of us. As of 9 p.m. tonight, we are at 1,041 in the queue.? That's nearly triple the 30 a day figure I've seen mentioned a few times.

No...with caveats.

The premium upgrade is good for ONE PRIMARY group. You can transfer others into subgroups of that group, if it makes sense (e.g.: for use by a board of directors, or a committee, etc.). Note that every member of a subgroup must also be a member of the primary group.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup? ?I don't recommend this as a way to collect unrelated groups, as subscriber management could become very unwieldy.?

Premium good for more than one group?

Question on this.

I already upgraded to premium when it was $110/yr. So, I already have a transfer going for the group that I'm the owner of. It was my impression that the premium upgrade was per group. Now it occurs to me that it may be for more than that. First question is: Is my premium upgrade good for more than one group? If the answer is 'yes', I'll have more questions.

Thanks,

Dave

The badges are to the right of the email address, not next to the name.

The closest you can get is to delete entire topics, but still one at a time.

Raymond -- Are you trying to make yourself an Owner? You can't do that unless you're already a Moderator with special privileges.?

The only other reason I can think of that it wouldn't work is because you didn't scroll down and click on Save as instructed.
