However, I wouldn't hang my hat on that working across the "divide" (as you so astutely put it). :-) I expect that the GIO import process will preserve all Yahoo content attributes such as dates and ownership as related to the imported member lists. If a member subscribes to a GIO subgroup prior to the GIO import with the identical email address will that mess up any ownership or attribute connections?I have heard conflicting reports. It's supposed to be retained, and Mark has stated that if this was so, it's unintentional (i.e.: a bug). For what it's worth, there are mechanisms in place to reassign the ownership of photos, but not of files. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Member Switchover Timing
Hello,
All of my groups/subgroups are in the "Stage 3 of 4" import queue but with expected completion times of about a month. AIUI, "Stage 1 of 4" exported a snapshot of all the available Yahoo group content and has safely saved it on Groups.io storage so there is no danger of loss of any historical content up to the point of export. The content is primarily just messages and static files - no photos, attachments, databases or such. Additional Yahoo group content subsequent to the GIO export will not be captured by GIO and will require manual transfer to GIO groups. Is this correct? I am really only concerned about messages. Assuming the above is correct, what is the recommended path to follow regarding the timing of the member switch overs? I don't relish the prospect of manually importing volumes of messages to the GIO subgroups even if it is possible to correctly set dates and ownerships. Should I send out invites, block further posts to Yahoo groups and force an immediate switch over to the target GIO subgroups? Should I create temporary GIO subgroups for immediate usage and move the messages to the true target GIO subgroups subsequent to import completion? Is it even possible to move messages among subgroups and retain dates and ownerships connections? Is it possible for a group owner to edit / reset posted message dates and ownership? Will threads be preserved (indexed?) across the import - subsequent posts divide? I expect that the GIO import process will preserve all Yahoo content attributes such as dates and ownership as related to the imported member lists. If a member subscribes to a GIO subgroup prior to the GIO import with the identical email address will that mess up any ownership or attribute connections? Any insights regarding these topics will be appreciated. Namaste', Art |

First question is: Is my premium upgrade good for more than one group?No...with caveats. The premium upgrade is good for ONE PRIMARY group. You can transfer others into subgroups of that group, if it makes sense (e.g.: for use by a board of directors, or a committee, etc.). Note that every member of a subgroup must also be a member of the primary group. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup? ?I don't recommend this as a way to collect unrelated groups, as subscriber management could become very unwieldy.? Regards, Bruce |
Premium good for more than one group?
Question on this.
I already upgraded to premium when it was $110/yr. So, I already have a transfer going for the group that I'm the owner of. It was my impression that the premium upgrade was per group. Now it occurs to me that it may be for more than that. First question is: Is my premium upgrade good for more than one group? If the answer is 'yes', I'll have more questions. Thanks, Dave [Irrelevant subject line edited by Moderator] |
