You should follow the instructions at /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19673 exactly and in order.

Nothing.? That's just the way it works here.? People have asked for a more graceful way to do it, but nothing has been changed yet.

Yes I suspect that you are correct. What are you trying to achieve? If you wish to download a photo from an archive it is not necessary to click on Edit first. That aside, after downloading a photo all you need do is click the back button on your browser (is that what you were referring to when you said click my back arrow at the top of my server company (AOL)) and it will return you to the view you had immediately prior to clicking on Download. Another back click will take you up a level to the Album in which the photo resides and so on.

It is perfectly straightforward.

If the status is "Your group is awaiting import into Groups.io.", then what will be copied from the YG is already done.? That was completed with the export.

I Can't Get My Group To Begin Transfer From Yahoogroups

I'm Cindi. I own First Ted Neeley List. I am trying to get my group in line to transfer from Yahoogroups, but I have no idea how to accomplish this. I upgraded the group, but now I can't add the transfer address as a moderator - it comes up invalid. Now groupsio is suggesting that I re-upgrade. What do I do to get this in motion so I don't lose everything? Is there a? PHONE NUMBER I can call to get this in gear? I'm not a true computer geek, so I'm lost in a lot of translation.

Can someone PLEASE, please help me?

Thank you,

Cindi

How to get out of the download photo in groups.io

I must be missing something.? When I go to a photo in an album and I click on Edit and go down to the bottom and click on download, up comes the photo (which is great).? After I right click and do the Save as, I'm at a loss as to how to get out of the photo itself.? There is no "X" to click on .? No "back".? No column on the left side to click on Photos again.? The only way I've found to get out of that state is to click my back arrow at the top of my server company (AOL).

What am I missing?? There has to be a way to get out of the photo and back to the photo picture in the album.? Or at least back out of that one download screen itself.? I even just click on the photo a second time to see if it took me out - nope.

Help!!

Sincerely,

Rli@...

Re: Group Settings - Only Moderators Can Post?

An announcement group only has posts from the owner / moderator.

But I think that you would like members to post on other topics and to start new threads,?based?on your dismay seeing the icon on?your?homepage.

So you would like to be able to send out announcements periodically, marked as such.
You don't want other members to use that label.
And to go further, do you want commenting on the announcement?

  • You can create a hashtag and set parameters - lock topic, only used by owner / moderators, etc., set that topic to moderate even if the group as a whole is not moderated.?
  • You can use "special notice" feature that only goes from owner / moderator.
  • You can lock topics.?
  • You can set up periodic or special timed announcements from the calendar.
See the Wiki -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home

Lots of options!

Re: Group Settings - Only Moderators Can Post?

Forgive me if I continue to seek clarity. ?I understand what you both are saying about how to make this go away but, I'm beginning to believe that I do not understand what an "Announcement" means. ?In other groups, when composing a new Topic, I recall an option to mark it as an Announcement. ?I actually never know exactly what that means but never thought that I wanted every member to be able to send out an Announcement. ?So, that is what I was seeking to accomplish here.

If I'm not making this clear, I will just drop it but would like to understand.

Re: Transfer steps

Sorry Bruce, can you explain that again??

I am in step 3, there are now 818 groups ahead of me.
So any new messages and new subscribers won't be transferred? OR when I reach step 4, everything from that day of transfer will be moved to IO list?

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Thanks for the hint, but I tried three browsers and deleted cookies and still no dice. I was able to download the data from all my groups for safe keeping, though, so I should be OK.

So I clicked back to the first group and my management functions reappeared.

This leads me to suggest that you log out of yahoo, clear your browser cache and log back in. Or try a different browser or from a different device. If you know how to remove just the Yahoo cookies ?€¡± which is a different process for each browser ?€¡± you could try that as well, then log back in.

Well, this is strange. I still can't gain access to my own group "Management" functions, but I was able to request and receive a download of all my groups, even the ones that I'm just a member of. There is a folder for each group, with sub-folders for files and messages, but not for photos and attachments. Only the downloads for groups with owner privileges included photos. That's not a huge deal since I can manually download the photos without owner privileges, and there aren't that many of them.

At least now I can restore all the members and invite them to join the new group, and I guess I can upload the files and photos.

Better than nothing, but I wasted the fee for the yearly upgrade since I couldn't use it. Had I known at the time, I would have created a master group, and put everything else in subgroups.

Re: Group Settings - Only Moderators Can Post?

Gene,

Any group can be an announcement group, equally you can change it to not be at any time. The only difference is whether the checkbox Frances referred to earlier is ticked. You could think of it as a quick way to temporarily block regular members from posting.

Typically this would be checked for a sub group (e.g. for housekeeping announcements), setting it for the main group is a bit weird unless you plan to give all of your subscribers the moderator super-power (that way madness lies...).

Re: "Average Pace" of transfers

That is not what I am seeing with my groups waiting.

?

The reason, I believe, is that some that are behind me in the queue are paying the extra $200 to expedite their group so they jump in front of me. If you are new to the transfer queue then your number may be a better measure as you may be behind some of those jumping ahead of me but you are behind them.

?

Jim?

?

?

Hi All........
Looks to me like once you have a Yahoo Group in the queue for transfer to Groups.io, that the average rate of transfer is about 30 groups per day. ?Is that about right from what you see? ?There was 1053 in front of me ?yesterday and 1021 today.

Regards,
Chuck

Re: Group Settings - Only Moderators Can Post?

As I said earlier today, to fix it,
go to
Admin, Settings. In Spam Control,
Make sure that Announcement Group isn't ticked. Untick it if it is.
Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and update to save.

Not the "wrong kind" but your settings are wrong for what you want. A quick and easy fix!

Re: Creating a database map view

Bruce and Duane,

Thank you for the explanations!? Worked perfectly -- a significant number of our members have already located themselves on the map.

As I mentioned in the first email, we're Yahoo refugees and it's so refreshing to find a supportive user group so ready to help others.? Makes us sorry we didn't move sooner.? "Tool soon old, too late smart."

Re: Creating a database map view

The map function works very well for addresses in France.? Indistinguishable from how it works in the US.

No.? In an Announcement type group, only moderators can post.? You'll need to remove that if you want members to be able to post/reply.

I think that what you are telling me is that the Home Page settings?with the megaphone followed by, "?Only moderators can post to the group.¡± ?means that only moderators can post Announcements. ?Is that correct?
