Re: What is the best practice for Pending Subscription notices for a restricted group #membershipapplication #membernotices

Frances, thank you for the wiki page. However, I've been testing this today and I am seeing a slightly different sequence of events.

I have a restricted group and an active Pending Subscription notice.

When someone applies for membership through the group home page, they receive both?the automatic confirmation and the Pendiing subscription notice. The receipt of those two messages occurs without the member or the moderator taking any action or responding to any message.

I thought that the Pending Subscription notice is not sent until after the user confirms their email address. But that doesn't match what I'm seeing.

For the purpose of these tests, I'm being both the prospective member and the moderator so that I can control the test.

Resizing photos?

Our group is only on the basic allowance for storage. I have no idea what would be a decent size to resize photos? in photo section so that they take up less space but are a reasonable size to see. Any suggestions?
Also, if I set it at strip attachments in emails will that just delete the attachment but let the post through?
Thank you for helping this dinosaur ;-)?

PG Offline is pretty quick to respond. Send them a msg

Re: Unable to create subgroups #subgroups #askmembers

I am confused.

Do you mean
- you were successful in creating subgroups for main group A last night, but?
- today you created a new group B and tried to create subgroups for B but were unsuccessful?

I just tried and it seems to work. A momentary hiccup?

The settings you need to make your Yoahoo Group Read-Only are in Access Controls in the Mangement > Control Panel

New groups have to be reviewed against the groups.io Terms of Service and receive approval before you can do anything else. Wait awhile and you'll be able to create your subgroups.

Did Subgroup creation suddenly break today?? Help.

Under Admin Settings go to Spam control.
Select all messages to be moderated - All messages require approval before being sent to the group.

I have no solution, but if your group has less than 1000 members, can you not export the list of members to CVS and then send them all invites to your new group? You'll lose your archives and files, but you'll keep your members.

Re: Adding question to +join group

I've advocated for a good process to vet potential members before they join.
No action was taken - perhaps due to the vocal protests of a few who somehow saw it as a threat to non-Restricted groups?...

Maybe after the 'great YahooGroups migration' is over, January 2020?, a successful pitch can be made in the beta group (Groups.io suggestion box).
or

This is the workaround that I use:

I tested this - it works for restricted groups. It doesn't work for "direct adds" or invites.

You have to create a Pending Subscription notice.?It is partially automated - you do have to reply to an email - but the notice is sent out automatically if the notice is active. Then you have to decide and accept or not. That's manual!

I added some screenshots to the wiki page including one that shows what happens if the person tries to jump the gun even after they have started the process.
I hope it helps. I still have a few more screenshots but I thought there was enough!

Hi

I made a new Gmail account and tested this. Made some screenshots and updated the wiki page.
It works!
And the member can't jump the gun and get in early.

See it. I do have a few more screenshots I didn't use, so let me know if it isn't clear. (I really wanted to get this to you asap!)

Re: Sorting among sent invites

I've noticed this as well. I think when sorting by date it uses the
time and date that the invitation was originally sent. Even if it has
been sent again and the displayed date/time is updated the sort order is
based on the time and date of the original invitation.

Hello Sheila,

Do you have a mod or Co-Owner named Wanda?? If so the claImed by Wanda indicates she has it for approval.?

I do not know if the post can be unclaimed.? Hopefully one of the other folks will know how it can be done, that is if the post can be unclaimed.

?
We recently moved from Yahoo to groups io and found it great, but have come across a problem. We have three messages from people who aren't actual members, so they go into moderation. When we try to approve them, they just stay in pending and now have 'claimed by Wanda' on the right of each post title.

How do I unclaim the posts? and how do we approve them? when we click the post and then click approve, the approve button greys out for a second then comes back and the posts are sitting in pending still. Looks like io are as difficult to contact with problems as Yahoo were!

Re: What is the best practice for Pending Subscription notices for a restricted group #membershipapplication #membernotices

For our moderated group, the Pending Subscription notice is the important one, as it informs them that they have not been accepted and that they will not be accepted unless they have met other requirements (attending an in-person meeting, completely outside the scope of Groups.io).? So what I found confusing in my tests was that the subscriber received the custom 'pending' notice that essentially says "sorry" and at the same time receive a confirmation as though they are in.

To me it would make more sense to hold that email address verification/confirmation until after they have been accepted into a private group.

Re: What is the best practice for Pending Subscription notices for a restricted group #membershipapplication #membernotices

Agreed.? I was going to wait until my Yahoo Group transfer is complete to try to troubleshoot this more, but I did notice in a test that it was a bit confusing for the "applicant".
