Re: Setting so mod can post

Susan,

Any member of a group can post, unless the group is an announcement group. Owners can always post.
If you can't post, you must be using your wrong email address to try to log into your group or email your group. Your email address is your account ID.

See this on logging into your group without a password -/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In

Or please reply and clarify your problem.

It occurs to me that perhaps you haven't fully set up your Groups.io group - see this on Settings -/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation

Setting so mod can post

Susan Kistler

I am a mod of a group and owner and I cannot find a setting so I as a mod can post to the group. Is this allowed?
Thank you.

<mod changed the subject to reflect the query>

Re: When you are in Stage 3

Thank you all for the interesting replies. Now I am 847. I cannot transfer myself because I have over 10,000 members and over 400,000 messages. So we are all being patient and not whining. It makes sense about the numbers fluctuating when people pay an additional $200 to have it expedited. I am not at that point, yet. But as it gets closer to Dec 14, I might pay the extra. We will see.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

I couldn't remember the name of the pulldown. Yes, it was "Management". As I recall, it was next to "Membership" pulldown, which is still there.

Larry

P.S.

I just checked another group that I transferred a few days ago, and the "Management" pulldown is there. Maybe I accidentally changed a setting that makes it think I'm not the owner.

There is no "Admin" pull down.

Use the "Management" pull down menu (on right, below group picture)
Select "Manage Invitations"
  OR
  Select "Manage Members"
Click on "+Invite" (below and to the right of the "Management" pull down menu)
Enter email address(es) in box
Click on "Invite" (at bottom of page)
  - if it doesn't say 'invitation sent successfully' and the number of 'You can invite _ more members today' decreases,
or it says 'Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content.'
    Click on "Invite" again.

Moderation - claimed message

Hi

A question earlier about the "claimed" tag when moderating messages.

There is a wiki page about moderation that has this:

Claimed messages: If you open a message to moderate, a Claimed tag with your name will appear.
You can edit the message and then save it to look again after an edit.
You complete the approval / moderation of a message by clicking save and approve.
No one can approve or reject a claimed pending message by email, but working on the web the claim only gives other moderators a warning - it doesn't actually prevent other moderators from "jumping your claim".
This is why it is unnecessary to have a way to remove the claim - if you become unable to ultimately approve or delete/reject the pending message, another moderator can step in and do it for you. Hopefully that's an infrequent occurrence.

Re: Time Zone #time zone #time

Too late for folks that are already in the group, but there's setting you can use to set the default for them. On the Settings page, select Default Sub Settings at the top. On the page that opens, you can set defaults for various member settings, including Time Zone. Update Group at the bottom of the page. Any new members will have those to start with, but can change them if they want.

No, it's been that way as long as there has been a non-profit discount.

How does one unbounce--- bouncing members

Help please
I have bouncing members - how do I unbounce them?
Any suggestions?

My little group's transfer saga #transfer

  • Saturday October 19: Alerted members of my group about Yahoo’s plans and discussed options (Google groups. Groups.io, Facebook, plain email, dissolution). People liked my description of Groups.io especially the ability to preserve ten years worth of content.
  • Sunday October 20: Created group at Groups.io. Signed up for Premium and paid $110 (which doubled two days later). Sent invitation for [email protected] to join our Yahoo group. Heard nothing.
  • Thursday October 24: Sent a second invitation to [email protected].
  • Friday October 25: Invitation was finally accepted. (Whether it was Sunday’s or Thursday’s, I don’t know.) I swiftly upgraded [email protected] to moderator and gave the go-ahead for transfer.
  • Sunday October 27. Finally progressed to step 3 of 4. Place in queue #644.
  • Monday October 28: #633.
  • Tuesday October 29: #618.
  • Wednesday October 30: #584.
  • Thursday October 31: #553. The pace does seem to be picking up but we’re still looking at 2-4 more weeks if this continues.
A few dozen members have already signed up at Groups.io, the rest are content to wait for the automatic switch.
Clearly Groups.io overpromised, though they didn’t get the Yahoo bombshell any sooner than we did.
Not complainin, though. Most members of my group live in or near Washington DC and we’ve had plenty else to do this week. Proud of our Nats!

Time Zone #time zone #time

I just uploaded over 500 email addresses and wanted to start using the calendar. I am unclear what timezone is associated with the new members...I had set default to eastern. I also didn't see a way I could check random members. They are all eastern time zone.

Any suggestions?

Re: When you are in Stage 3

If you are just interested in transferring email addresses without all the other history from a yahoo group, you might want to get a premium membership for one month and upload all your email addresses. That's what we did and it took less than 8 hours to make this happen. You will need to download your membership from yahoo, but that is pretty easy. You won't get all your old messages, etc.

If you have more than 20 members, you will get a notice about awaiting approval from moderator...an anti-spam protection...but approval was less than 2 hours.

Re: Direct Add #direct #direct add #direct

Issue resolved and I got an email within an hour after I sent this posting

Re: When you are in Stage 3

Susan -- Around 6 or 7 this morning I was at 201. It's after 9 PM and I'm at 185. But I think that rate can change based on the amount of content being transferred. If you think it's a long slog (which it will be), imagine what Mark is going through monitoring this 24/7*60 or more days.

We can all thank Yahoo for being expletives.

Sara

Re: When you are in Stage 3

Yeah, I'm watching my numbers, too. I think every time someone ponies up $200 to be expedited, you and I get bumped.

Annual Premium for non-profits

I had understood there would be a 50% discount for Annual Premium groups for non-profits. In doing my first Upgrade from free just now, the only Annual Non-Profit I saw was for Enterprise.

Did I miss something?

Re: Hoping there is an option/alternative for transferring a small non profit (tax exempt) organization's data from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io, without having to spend $110.00 on a one year membership

You can revert to free after the first year.
You can take donations - see
/static/pricing

First decide if you need your message archive. If you don't, get a free group.

If you do need your messages, there are options, but they aren't perfect.

See this wiki for starting points - #10/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups
#10.

There is the possibility of a not-for-profit discount but only on the very expensive enterprise plan.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

FYI, this is a member-to-member help group which Mark doesn't read. He does read Beta.

Frances

Hoping there is an option/alternative for transferring a small non profit (tax exempt) organization's data from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io, without having to spend $110.00 on a one year membership

Mark, really anyone who can provide a valid (accurate) response,

I joined Groups.io at least over 1 year + ago.

I am chairwoman of a non profit tax exempt (IRS) organization's Board. I created a private unlisted Yahoo Group so the Board could communicate, have a repository for Mtg Minutes, other records, etc.

Long before Yahoo Group's announced dumping Groups I considered transferring the < ten (10) Board members, communications, records, etc.) to Groups.io, but I am a dedicated procrastinator so I had NOT transfered the minimal data, and 'invite' the present Board members plus one emeritus Board member to Groups.io.

Is there a (ANY) path - way to accomplish transferring the Yahoo Group info to Groups.io without the organization having to spend $110.00 or MORE?

What, if any, option(s) are there for small non profit organizations other than spend the organization's limited finances to accomplish the transfer the minimal Yahoo Group info to Groups.io?

THANKS for everyone's efforts, suggested 'option(s)', better still a SOLUTION (other than the expensive one year membership) and everyone's support!

Mrs. Robin Adair-Weber, CET

[Mod Note: The one year transfer fee has been $220 since Oct 22.]

Re: How to find status page for transfer

Frances - thank you. I got rid of the old bookmark for determining status of transfer and put the new one on my bookmarks bar so now I should be able to find it in one click. It is:/yahootransfer
