Re: Bump updated messages to top

Suggestion: Do what Google mail does: When a new message is added to a thread, mark the thread unread and sort the list by when the most recent message was added to each thread. Alan, you can see messages individually, not by topic, if you prefer. Also expanded. Choose from the Topic menu at the top of the Messages.? You can also toggle date to newest to oldest. Not sure if this is a complete answer for you.? In your own groups, you can also set threads to close after a specific length of time. In Admin, Message Policies: Automatically Lock Topics Older Than ? ?days
Locks topics after the specified number of days. Topics will be locked overnight Pacific time.

How long does signup take?
My time is very limited. ?I feel that once I sit down to start a migration of a Yahoo Group to Groups.io that I probably must sit at the computer until my application is accepted and Groups.io takes over to perform the migration and I can leave my computer.
Please tell....how long does that time usually take? ?Is it just a matter of a few minutes, or might it take considerably longer. Tks Chuck, CABGx3 |
Bump updated messages to top
#messages
Observation: Messages seem to be listed by thread, in order of when the first message in the thread arrived.? So, if a thread began a month ago and someone sends a new message in that thread, when I log on to my group and look at messages, I have no clue that there was a new message in that thread.? I would have to open every thread and check to see whether any new message had arrived.? That is not practical.
Suggestion: Do what Google mail does: When a new message is added to a thread, mark the thread unread and sort the list by when the most recent message was added to each thread. |

Re: group listed in directory, private messages option during transfer
If you want your group to be found by potential members, it is best to be listed in the directory.? If you think that you will use invitation only (or direct add if you have Premium or Enterprise) you could not list it in the directory.

Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem
J Forster,
I hope his actions don't interfere with the transfer when they get soThey won't. The only connection between the Yahoo Group and the destination Groups.io group is in the transfer setup. There's no requirement that the group names/addresses be the same or even similar in the two systems. Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem
While yes I am concerned about the time to load the data into Groups.io program but I am not that concerned. ? My largest concern is does Groups.io have the data from Yahoo Group and if so then can wait for Groups.io to do their part. ? My largest group finished downloading today. 3 others finished a few days ago. I have 4 more that the cost will be out of my pocket so likely will not due unitl Nov as on next month¡¯s cc and due to be paid towards end of Dec. ? Jim ? Re: Transferring recent messages which missed the automatic move window.
Ron,
Specifically messages 27276 through 27288 need to be moved to the newBack before things became so hectic you could delete the record of your completed transfer and start a new one, check marking only the sections with content yet to transfer. The transfer agent would fill in the gaps, skipping any entries already present. This was generally intended for catching Files and Photos that had been skipped due to Yahoo Server issues, but I suspect it may work for messages as well. I don't know if things will get any less hectic between now and the December cutoff, otherwise I'd suggest waiting. Re: Downloading group from Yahoo while waiting for transfer
Duane,
Apparently YG has a limit on the traffic for each group. There's definitely a limit of traffic with each connection to Yahoo Groups. Which is why PG Offline and similar products need throttle controls to keep them from getting locked out. I've never heard of a limit on traffic for a specific group (but that doesn't mean you're wrong!). Re: Invite-to-membership time for Yahoo Group (in order to begin transfer)
Skip,
As there is no existing transfer status I presume my invite either hasIf there's no status at all, not even the box instructing you to send the invitation, then you haven't initiated the transfer, and your invitation will be discarded. See the screen shot under "Start the Transfer Process" here: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups I suspect that the invite may have just evaporated into the ether...An invitation I sent out from a Yahoo Group over the weekend took about 12 hours to arrive in my email inbox. So it may not have evaporated. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI had a similar issue.A squatter registered the exact name of one of my Yahoo Groups on Groups.io in the apparent attempt to hijack the Group. I contacted Support, but have yet to receive a reply. So, I successfully registered a varient of the original group name and announced it. My new group now has many members. The hiujacker's has 2. The hijacker does not have Moderator privileges on the original group, so can't transfer membership. I hope his actions don't interfere with the transfer when they get so far. ========================= On 10/28/2019 4:47 PM, Phil Barr wrote:

Re: BT + problem leads to ghost registration
If I saw the webpage saying my email address is registered, I'd try to use
the 'lost password' tool and see if it sends me the option to set a password. If that happened and worked, then from his account on groups.io he could find the group and register that way (I think). -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.org www.syracusemodelrr.org [Mode note: You don't register for a group, you subscribe.] |

Skip,
If I¡¯d known about this opportunity, I¡¯d have made the switch longWe made no secret of it in Y!GMF, but unfortunately it would only have been luck, word of mouth, or determined searching that would have led you there. in any event, they are ceasing services in a month or so, ...Not posting / receiving by email. That is supposed to continue. As will Y!GMF as long as it is able. That said, posts to two different YGs I made a couple of days ago haveYup. Message throughput in Y!GMF has been getting progressively slower since the announcement. My mental image before the slowdown set in was of a field full of beehives, all disturbed by a sudden jolt, and all buzzing furiously. They're still trying to, this one still is.
