Can a group name begin with a number?
#groupname
I tried to create a group whose name begins with a number, e.g.
9abc. It failed, saying "That address has already been taken". However, its webpage, /g/9abc, fails with "Sorry, but that group does not exist". Our organization has such a name -- can I create a group with that name? Thanks.. Bill |
Re: Two factor Authentication
Orest,?
What are app are you using? The instructions say:
Scan This Barcode With Your App Configure your authenticator app to receive security codes from Groups.io. Don't have an authenticator app? Choose from a list of our recommended apps: Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, Authy, or Windows Phone Authenticator.
Note: If you enable two-factor authentication, you will not be able to log in using Facebook, Google or the Email Me a Link to Log In functions.
Scan this image using your authentication app. If you can't use a barcode, enter the code 2GMQRKQN357CGEW7U2GIOHEERBI3OM47 instead.

Re: group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem
I'm waiting for my group to transfer(#491 in the queue),? ?I gave my new group a shorter name in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups.? Will this cause any problems? About name change - see?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/21110 About the transfer queue -? 11. How do I check the transfer status?
?
Transfers are queued up when you first set it up and processed in that order until you get to Step 5.?
?
At that point they are re-ordered based on when the transfer go-ahead is given and uploaded to groups.io in that order (unless you pay $200 for priority service).
?
When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.?
?
There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.
?
If you've already started a transfer, return to the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), select the transfer you've already started from the "Existing Transfers" list (pull down the menu and click on its name). On the resulting page you will see the same series of checkboxes. Uncheck the ones you don't want and then click the "Update Transfer" button. Actual transfer status for any ongoing transfer can be found in the status box at the top of the page.
?
New (2019-10-23): more details now available. See
?
New (2019-10-25) If you have started a Yahoo Group transfer, and the status is the message that starts "Make sure you have sent an invite to your group", that means that we have not received your invite yet and that you should send another one. That message will change automatically when we receive the invite and is not subject to the delays in other parts of the process are seeing.

group name different in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups - Will this be a problem
Hi,
I'm waiting for my group to transfer(#491 in the queue),? ?I gave my new group a shorter name in groups.io than it was in yahoo groups.? Will this cause any problems? Two other questions: Is there a link to see the queue??? Is it recommended that I add all the members to groups.io while I wait for the transfer to complete?? This private group has a small membership (20 people), but is quite active. Thanks, Phil |
Re: Possible to transfer orphaned Yahoo group?
I am a member of a Yahoo group but am not moderator. The moderator is unresponsive. Is there any way of transferring the group contents from Yahoo to groups.io without being the Yahoo moderator? You might read this thread. /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19672 You might also just start a new group here, invite members. Or announce in YahooGroups.? Frances -- FAQ on Moving from YahooGroups GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |

Apryl, you are trying to add transfer to your Yahoo Group, right??
Some people have tried to invite the transfer agent to their Groups.io group. Perhaps YahooGroups is acting up. Re: Transfer Complete - some members "bounced"
There are instructions about bouncing on GMF wiki -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/dealing-with-bouncing Good luck. |
Re: Transfer Complete - some members "bounced"
As you undoubtedly know, as a moderator at Yahoo, under Manage Members, I can pull up a list of ¡°Bouncing.¡± I now see that it is 182 long, none are marked ¡°No Emails¡± but most of them joined many years ago and I believe that the problem is that their emails are all invalid. That means that they were not receiving any communications but may have been posting and reading.
In an unrelated problem, nothing I post in the Yahoo group is being displayed. My guess is that the Yahoo moderators are deleting it. Gene |
