Re: Is there a need for two owners?

Edited

It is good insurance to have multiple owners so that in worst case scenario the list does not become an orphan.
Giving ownership rights is a critical decision and you need to have 100% trust in the person. I am a moderator
of a group from 1995 and we always had at least two owners. After moving the list to GIO we know have three
owners and your can trust your life with each. Every group should address this issue now and make sure multiple
backup owners are there to protect long term survivability of the group.

Re: ... dealing with Groups.io

Hi All,
When I heard from Mark about a payment issue the reference number in his reply was numbered well over 10,000.

I don't know how long this support reference number count has been running but its probable the number of messages to [email protected] has ticked up a bit in the last week and IO is triaging in some sort of order.

My 10K+ numbered inquiry will require follow-up with Mark or his staff but I consider it lower priority than the other issues many are experiencing thanks to Verizon pulling the rug out from under our collective feet last week.

I hope this turns out well for all of us, only time and (lots of hard work will tell :-)

FYI, no one from Groups.io management is on this group, but it's certainly refreshing to hear some good news now and then.? Once all the dust settles, I think there will be many people that share your appreciation.

Any way to get hold of "Mark"?

Perhaps he can fix my problem with the inoperative group. Still no contact from support@

You know I wonder if there was a delay with the initial transfer request that I deleted.
Now I have [email protected] as a member and was able to make the agent a moderator; but now my transfer status page shows the following.

We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite

I think I should have waited cause there probably was a delay with the backlog.
I hope the status will change so I can start my transfer.

You can use PG Offline to do that. It takes a little setup but once
you do, it will automatically download files and the folders in your
files section, links, photos, and if you set it up right from the
start, the messages.

As of right now there is no facility to upload those messages to your
GIO group but that might be available shortly.

If you invited before paying, your invitation was likely ignored.? You have to follow the steps in the EXACT order given. See /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19673

You can check your status using /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups item 11.

Re: using email only

If your Yahoogroup is email-only, why not just stay with Yahoogroups?? It seems to me the only reason to leave
is if you need website content.? Also, of course, being pissed off with Yahoo/Verizon, but you could wait until
the crisis is over and move later.

Re: you have reached the limit

I think the reason it causes consternation is because short of the notice that pops up, there is confusion as to whether or not your invitations have all disappeared, Perhap an immediate email explaining the process and an estimated delay time would be an easy way to assuage moderator and owner doubts as to whether their invitations have disappeared permanently.

Respectfully,
Matthew

Re: Transfer status - "make sure you have sent an invite to your group" #transfer

Invites might slow down this weekend due to the planned power shutdown in parts of California. (Fire risks)

Mark wrote:

I think I'll be fine. We didn't lose power last time, although a bunch of our neighbors did. Plus we do have a backup generator. The person that accepts Yahoo invites, however, is expecting to lose power this afternoon. We're almost caught up on accepting invites, but that will probably fall behind over the next day or two until he gets power again.

Re: Where am I in the Queue?

The position in queue only seems to show up when you reach "Step 3 of 4."? Probably you are still at "Step 1 of 4" ?? At least that is what I am seeing in my groups.

Re: Transfer status - "make sure you have sent an invite to your group" #transfer

From the wiki -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups

11. How do I check the transfer status?
?
Transfers are queued up when you first set it up and processed in that order until you get to Step 5.?
?
At that point they are re-ordered based on when the transfer go-ahead is given and uploaded to groups.io in that order (unless you pay $200 for priority service).
?
When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.?
?
There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.
?
If you've already started a transfer, return to the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), select the transfer you've already started from the "Existing Transfers" list (pull down the menu and click on its name). On the resulting page you will see the same series of checkboxes. Uncheck the ones you don't want and then click the "Update Transfer" button. Actual transfer status for any ongoing transfer can be found in the status box at the top of the page.
?
New (2019-10-23): more details now available. See
?
New (2019-10-25) If you have started a Yahoo Group transfer, and the status is the message that starts "Make sure you have sent an invite to your group", that means that we have not received your invite yet and that you should send another one. That message will change automatically when we receive the invite and is not subject to the delays in other parts of the process are seeing.

I requested download today and got this:

It may take up to 30 days for this download to become?available.

By that time I hope to have made progress on my own in copying my important group's files!

None of these links tell me where I am in the queue. ?You know, "You are now # ? of # ? "

That is a little funny. I was looking at the Yahoo Group and the "old Join date". Can that be edited when users join the new site?

Also, any idea how long it will take for the "Transfer" to accept my Yahoo invite? I have not done the upgrade to premium yet? Do I need to do this before "Transfer" will accept my Yahoo invite? Thank you.
