There is no echo of that message to the group. it just disappears as if it had never been sent. I have sent several test messages. They are just gone. I scoured
the various settings, to see if something was turned "OFF", but it
doesn't seem so. A little frustrating! The odd thing, is that the group was all working fine before the auto-transfer from YG. I posted a bunch of test messages, and they were all sent out fine. I'll try adding another member, to see if that wakes up the
software, or see if I can actually do that. * Orest |

Re: message from Owner but with personal name
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFrances, I understand what you are saying. But sometimes owners and moderators want to send a common message which should not appear as sent by this one single person. Therefore I was quite happy to see there is a possiblity to send from the owner-address, and then disappointed to realize it doesn?t work properly. The owner-address doesn?t even show up as sender. Only in the mail it shows. As I understand this issue was brought up before; but I also wouldn?t bring this up again in beta, at least not right now. Mark is too busy getting all these transfers regulated in time. Victoria P.S. Frances, you really did a good deed writing this transfer instruction manual! |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDid you check boxes for things that you never used, like news, for instance? There were really very few things out of the long list you see that I wanted. I noticed I got a separate reply from Yahoo for each box I checked. Just don't send messages from your owner email address! I own quite a few groups. Don't think I have ever sent from there. I have received from there but its about problems or queries about the group, not the topic. |

That said, I would have no objection to people using my new IHateYahooGroups group as a "playground" if they promise to remain somewhat on-topic with their posts. The whole concept of that group was transitional (and whimsical) from the get-go, and I plan to delete it sometime around the end of the December anyway.? Regards, Bruce |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI also emailed support@, but haven't heard back. Are they a 9-5 M-F kind of thing? Do they generally respond eventually? I'm dead in the water at moment, as the group will not echo any

I know you are a whiz with computer programming from past messages of yours I¡¯ve read. I don¡¯t know that much about it but I like to read about the possibilities and their details - such as you provided. I liked your idea that there should be a way to create a program that will do what you described. I notice you were talking about Perl. We have one member using a PC who is willing to help with the forwarding. I am using a Mac¡. is it possible to write something for a Mac that does what you describe? Thank you - Susan B On Oct 26, 2019, at 9:58 AM, Lena <Lena@...> wrote:

Members can download the file and use Thunderbird or another mail client to read it and search in it. We were going to just start forwarding each old message to the messageThere are different types of forwarding. If "From" in a forward is of the person doing the forwarding then every message will be from that member. If "From" is preserved but that email address isn't currently subscribed to the .io group then the message will be moderated (assuming that "Allow Non Subscribers to Post" is checked in group settings) and thus out of order. I'm thinking to write a program (in Perl language) to read a mbox and email each message to groups.io (direct-to-MX, requires your IP-address to have RDNS) in order. The program should be able to handle timeouts, temporary rejections (4xx) and use optional list of pairs: email address in yG archive -> current email address of that person subscribed to the .io group. Also an option to take list of email addresses of all current members, if "From" of a message in the mbox is not in the list then change "From" to some fixed address (like owner's) in order to avoid moderation. I'm sure that somebody here will be able to describe step-by-step how to run a program in Perl under Windows using ActivePerl or something similar. |

While your idea of a public sand-box group is an interesting one, there would inevitably be a downside which could finish up causing more problems than it helped to resolve. You will have your group set up to meet your requirements in terms of moderation settings, moderator permissions and so on and if those turned out to differ from those new members encountered in a sort of playground environment it would mean that your group behaved differently to what had been found in the playground. It does not require much imagination to see how that might work out... Chris |
