Re: PG Offline users
#pgoffline
As of this date, using PGO, if you want to download everything from YG you will have to accept the )(*& oath click.? It took me 2 days of trying to get around it and as soon as I took the Devil's click I could go in and down load 7 different groups.? OK with me because come the 1st of January I am deleting all yahoo accounts and the Devil's oath.? I could access YG using PGO but it is YG that is blocking the downloads, not PGO.? That is YG is blocking access using a download program since they know what is going on now.? Just to log into YG and manage accounts on line, I have been delaying the Devil's oath since it first started and I have had to manage the YG accounts daily since 2001.

How do I save Downloaded messages in PG Offline.
#messages
#pgoffline
pbrixey
Today, using PB Offline I downloaded 50,000+ messages, but cannot find a way to save them to my hard drive. I still have the app open, I did not want to close it in case all the messages disappeared.
Any suggestions and help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance Peter B. |
Re: accidentally changed domain name?
The subgroup actually shows up. The main group does not. I changed the email from main@aah-announce?to aah-announce@aah?. That aah domain name does not exist and the group doesn't show up now.

Only one transfer and it hasn't started because I can't make ([email protected]) a moderator.

I think the question is (at least for me) - how soon before we get the notification to give the go-ahead? That¡¯s for when io accepts the member request at Yahoo right?

Re: Features & Setup Questions
Art, it might be easier to answer just subgroup questions here. Your other questions have been talked about recently, except for the lock on Yahoo account and when will Yahoo actually delete files. You might try?/g/IHateYahooGroups/topics
As far as subgroups are concerned, have you looked at the wiki? /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup and /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Subgroups You asked: Do I need to create subgroups with identical names or will the transfer automatically create subgroup?
Are subgroup memberships automatically transferred or do they have to be confirmed?--?
After the bulk transfer, can the subgroup names be changed?
Are features such as Wikis and Databases on a subgroup or parent group basis?
? ?Are they limited to one per group/subgroup or can multiple such objects be created?
? ?Are they globally accessible or only from and within the associated subgroup?
Are settings unique and independent for each subgroup?
Conceptually, are subgroups unique and independent groups except for the parent group requirement?
Can I define an identifying string for each subgroup to prepend to a post's subject?
? ?For example [xyz-abc], [xyz-def], [xyz-ghi] for three different subgroups?
? ?If so, do the strings have to match the subgroup names?
I can tell you that the features - wiki, databases, files - are separate in the main group and subgroup.? The settings between parent group and subgroup appear to be separate. You can choose whether parent group members can see subgroup files, etc. Probably someone else will tackle this! Re: Group Guidelines on a schedule
#membernotices
There is a little bit in this guide to group formation:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation And you might consider a Group Guidelines notice.
?
The Group Guidelines notice is a unique type that provides a convenient and versatile way to communicate and maintain the group¡¯s posting and conduct guidelines, if any. It has the following features and options:

I actually meant in the GMF Wiki. There is a link on the main page for "Member Notices", but the linked document doesn't say anything about Group Guidelines.

Is there a uitlity/test/browse/practice group?
Christos Psarras
?
Hello Folks,
?
We will be initiating our groups' transfers soon, and in
the meantime I want to nudge the users to go ahead and create their GIO account,
and also browse around using the?browser interface, join a group and get
some experience using the web interface.? Obviously I don't want them to
join our relocated groups yet, first because they are currently empty, plus I
don't want folks getting in and start sending messages, uploading files, etc,
not anyway until the transfer takes place and is done.
?
I also don't want to tell them they can join
this group for a bit so they can practice navigation
and the like and get a feel how the web interface works, this is a forum for us
obviously.? So is there like some "uitlity/test/browse/practice" public
group that anyone can join so they can browse around?? It can be a
read-only group?if there is one like that, they don't have to post messages
right now.
?
And before someone suggests it, yes, I can create a
basic test group for our group and after it is setup I can point them there, but
then I would have to spend the time to "populate" that group with at least a
screenful of topics (to give them the opportunity to scroll), then reply to some
of those?topics to create threads, upload some files, photos, etc, etc,
which can take quite some time, which I'm trying to avoid!
?
Cheers,
Christos

Features & Setup Questions
Questions, questions, questions! Yahoo set off a Tsunami. Hopefully, these won't be too much. to get answered
I just created a parent group and plan on migrating ~seven subgroups from Yahoo. There are about 8000 member entries but, excluding overlap, only about 3000 unique members, 75,000 messages and 20MB in about 130 files - no photos, attachments or databases. Transfer ====== Do I need to create subgroups with identical names or will the transfer automatically create subgroups? Are subgroup memberships automatically transferred or do they have to be confirmed? After the bulk transfer, can late poster and straggler info be transferred? About how long will the actual transfer take? From request to initiation? Does anyone know if we can put a lock on the Yahoo message boards after the transfer? Does anyone happen to know if Yahoo will be deleting their message archives on Oct 28 or the Dec date? After the bulk transfer, can the subgroup names be changed? Features ======= Are features such as Wikis and Databases on a subgroup or parent group basis? Are they limited to one per group/subgroup or can multiple such objects be created? Are they globally accessible or only from and within the associated subgroup? Are settings unique and independent for each subgroup? Conceptually, are subgroups unique and independent groups except for the parent group requirement? Can I define an identifying string for each subgroup to prepend to a post's subject? For example [xyz-abc], [xyz-def], [xyz-ghi] for three different subgroups? If so, do the strings have to match the subgroup names? Thank you for your assistance. Namaste', Art |
Re: Cover photo choice?
I currently run the Antique Pattern Library (group and website). If you can find an image on our website ?that appeals to you, let me know. Nearly all are free for noncommercial use. We watermark them but for a cover image I can share one without watermark.

Re: Acceptance time frame for [email protected] account
#transfer
Hi
From the GMF FAQ -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups
11. How do I check the transfer status? ?
Transfer requests are sorted by when the go-ahead is given to transfer the group.
?
When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.?
?
There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.
?
If you've already started a transfer, return to the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), select the transfer you've already started from the "Existing Transfers" list (pull down the menu and click on its name). On the resulting page you will see the same series of checkboxes. Uncheck the ones you don't want and then click the "Update Transfer" button. Actual transfer status for any ongoing transfer can be found in the status box at the top of the page.
?
New (2019-10-23): more details now available. See

Chris;
How can I get an "easy group transfer" email which tells me to make the ([email protected]) a moderator of my Yahoo group to start the transfer process if I never invited to the group to join? Duane; That is what I'm trying to do is save my YG data! Over 15 years of group messages! |
Re: Main group = Premium Yearly but all subgroups = Premium Monthly
#subgroups
#upgrade
Duane,
I did go ahead and post my plea again on beta. It was still on moderation but Mark approved it and replied that he had fixed the bug. The pricing plan for the main group now properly "trickles down" to all its subgroups and I am now able to continue the transfer process for the subgroups. Presumably this bug fix will benefit others who took the same set of steps as I did to upgrade from Premium Monthly to Premium Yearly. Robert R. |

Sounds to me like you haven't invited that address to that group.Edward; I was coming to the same conclusion as Duane. In your previous message (the one to which Duane responded) you also wrote: I even checked the moderator & member activity logs and don't see any mention of a [email protected]. Now if that statement is true then [email protected] was never even invited to the group in question. I know this sounds like a very silly question but are you absolutely certain that you haven't mixed up one group with another? The point here is that if the transfer agent was invited and accepted that invitation and so on there would be more than one piece of evidence of all that having happened, not just a single piece in one place. It would take quite a bit of effort for someone to remove all evidence of all that having happened. Time for a few deep breaths and a slow and careful reassessment of what you reckon has been done and where. Chris |
Donations to pay for the upgrade from a free list to a Premium list
Currently Premium lists can collect donations from members for the Premium cost.
When free lists were confronted with a required upgrade to Premium if they had 500+ members, there was not an equivalent method for free lists to accept donations to pay for the upgrade. Doubling the Premium list cost at the same time increased the need to accept donations. This issue is not dead, only delayed.? Before the policy? is changed again, free lists should be able to collect donations before they have to pay for a Premium list. -- ken clark www.shastasprings.com |
