Re: Deleting a YGroup VS waiting for Yahoo's Axe to fal . . .!
The one thing we should try to avoid is the issue that many Yahoo Groups experienced over the years.? When the Owner left, there was no one there.? Think of second life which hung on as a digital wasteland for years.? I have put all the members to moderated, and in December when all the content is gone, I plan to turn off the light and close the door (Delete the group.)

Re: Cover photo choice?
Susan,
I used Google Images to find one and saved it to my PC, then uploaded it to GIO for the cover photo. If you're concerned about copyright, make sure the image isn't under copyright protection. Re: Deleting a YGroup VS waiting for Yahoo's Axe to fal . . .!
Paul,
What I did after my group was moved to Groups.io, and I got everything in order at our new home, was I went back to my Yahoo group and closed it down for good. I sent a Special post that would reach all the membership a week before closing the old group down, telling them basically on the following week the Y group will be no more, and everything from then on would be at our Groups.io site. I didn't have any problems, except with a few members that weren't reading their email from the group. At some point you just have to cut the cord with the old group, and move on with the new group. Transfer ? - Members Jumping the Gun
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Folks, ? New to Groups.io ¨C was a long time member of EL-M.? I¡¯m bitterly regretting not having kept up because I¡¯m dancing as fast as I can but still losing ?? I¡¯ve been reading here for the last couple of days but am overwhelmed. ? We have a couple of groups ¨C including a large one ¨C we¡¯re transferring to GIO from Y!G.? We did our prep work as best as we could, including sending a couple of ADMIN Special Notice.? The second one included the info that we¡¯ve started the actual transfer process and to please be patient while everyone & everything gets transferred. ? Not everyone reads, and not everyone follows directions.? Shocking, I know. ? My question is this:? for the members who weren¡¯t patient & have jumped the gun & joined the new GIO, what happens when our membership eventually gets transferred?? Will they have double membership?? What about things like posting permissions?? For the new GIO, we have new members moderated for the first three posts; the old Y!G was set to moderate new members which we manually switched after a few posts when possible. ? Here's a scenario.? Harry was a longstanding member of the old Y!G who was no longer moderated.? Harry jumped the gun & joined the new GIO group where new members are moderated for the first three posts while the transfer was in process.? Assuming he used the same email address, which posting permissions will he have? ? TIA, Saundra ? ? ? |

You can practice your searching ability using the name.? Or just accept it as fact.? On Wed, Oct 23, 2019 at 15:24 Sharon Pohlman via Groups.Io <ceegee2006=[email protected]> wrote:

Blank names when users join or get imported translates into postings getting rejected from mail
I noticed that when users did not enter their names when registering or when imported they appear blank.? Many email systems (Lotus Notes and Exchange) will see this as an invalid message.? I have added a dummy name to the person who was having the issue, but it seems that Group.IO should either not allow someone to register with blanks or when composing a posting, it should format it in a way that will be acceptable.? I checked Yahoo, and it allowed blanks, but it required that you use a profile name.? I am wondering if this needs to go to Support or a features mailing list.

Re: Migrating the Yahoo stragglers
If you make your new Groups.io group a member of the Y!G then any email sent to members will also be sent to the new Group in the normal way. Yes? Or am I wrong?
?
Then when the transfer is done put everyone at Y!G group on moderation and /or no mail. Owner and moderators still get mail and deal with it. This should catch the stragglers and new applicants.
?
OK,
Tony
?
5. Meanwhile, posts stack up in the queue on Y!G. 6. Migration complete. What happens with all of #5's posts?
Do they migrate as well so they can be approved on GIO, or are they lost or? ?

I just wanted to announce the creation of a new group here on groups.io:? IHateYahooGroups This is the place to go to complain about the Y!G downgrade and any ongoing issues you may be having with accessing and using the Y!G site. It is NOT the place to discuss transfer issues -- those should remain here in GMF. Why am I doing this? Mainly, it's to improve the signal-to-noise ratio in the support groups (like here), which need to remain as high as possible during this difficult time of transition. The new group is unmoderated (except your first message) and I won't be looking over your shoulders very much. Try to keep actual swearing to a minimum...otherwise, have at it and enjoy! Bruce |
