Button to Go Ahead With Transfer? #transfer

Hi!
Should I be seeing a GO button on the edit page for the transfer process?
This page??/edittransfer

I have 2 groups in the transfer queue. Invitations have been excepted to both groups. The Groups.io member has been promoted to moderator in both groups.

The next step is to go to the process page and give the go ahead. I click on my existing transfer groups and it takes me to the edit page. But it does not show a button or link to GO ahead with the transfer.

The status box at the top of the page still says they received the invite and will accept it soon. So my edit page has not been updated. It is not showingbthe progress that has been made.

Will Groups.io put a green GO ahead with the transfer button on my edit page? If, so, how long should I wait for that to appear.?

Someone please help me with this. I do not see a way to give the GO AHEAD.

Janis

The only way I'm aware of is to upgrade to Enterprise.? That's supposed to allow you to do almost whatever you want, including the home page, /static/pricing

Currently, the only way to have the correct ownership for files is to have the owner upload it.

Start at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups and come back if you still have questions that you can't find answers for in the Wiki or posts here.

Re: Moving subgroups and cost?

If you have migrated, you can then fill out another request and just select the items you need to move.? The $200 additional is ONLY for those that want to jump to the top of the line.

Not at all.? I have a 'club' group where we do that very thing.? All membership dues and updates are done elsewhere, but then they can join the group here.

When I transferred my groups 17 months ago, I went through the memberlist before the transfer and changed everybody¡¯s setting who was on ¡°no mail¡±.

I do not allow ¡°no mail¡± in my groups and am so happy that I can set this ¡°in stone¡± with io groups. ?¡°Special notice¡± is allowed and ever so helpful if I need to post a message, which reaches everybody and is not often used. ?The first message in months was to my members about the forthcoming changes with yahoo groups and encourage them to download things they might wish to keep from the yahoo groups they belong to.

You might want to consider sending invites to all those members who were on no-email.? They likely had been using the web interface to interact with your group, but are no longer (because Y!G is so broken).? There might be many who would want to use the new group, but since they are on no email, they won't know about it.

Hi Jan

Have you looked at the GMF wiki? There is a quick start guide.

Setting up a free account (not a transfer)

Jan Smith

Hi Shal.? I am trying to get help for creating a Basic (free) group and invite members.? I do NOT want to transfer my Yahoo Group as I have deleted all the photos, I have copies of all the Files, and since my Yahoo Group isn't that active with the lessons I teach, etc., a lot of posted messages are no relevant.??

I've read a lot of posts here, and instructions, etc., and not sure I can do this without help.? ?

So, can I get instructions on creating my group manually for the Basic group, including how to give my group the name they are used to, etc., please?

I know you are busy, very busy, but time is running out on Yahoo.

Thank you for your time.

Jan Smith

Mark has said that the downloading of your group is relatively fast.? It's getting the information onto Groups.io that takes awhile.? My guess would be that he can download several groups at once, but has to be careful not to overload the system when adding the information here.

I'd be careful doing this.? For a long time Yahoo had no way for people to leave groups or delete an account.? Many folks changed group subscriptions to no email since they were stuck there.

Re: Color?

And in Yahoo our message subjects titles are a nice active-looking blue color.?
(your message subject titles are seemingly inactive dull gray)?

On the website using Safari, the titles are blue (until you read them, then they turn grey - and that's helpful!) and I have an icon for myself on the posts. You can set that yourself.

Re: Color?

Andrea, you can set a banner photo on your site.
In Settings, Cover Photo tab.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation

There has been some discussion lately about setting a photo to the right size. Search GMF.

Additionally you can change the colour for some of your text in the Description. Be sure to use the "hamburger" menu to open the second line of tools.

I believe that you can't reassign ownership to files or folders.

Larry,

It appears that you cannot. I tried creating a group with "?" in the name and there was an immediate error saying that the group-name was not valid.

I have noticed that several groups use lower case for the callsign. That way the zero in "w0vfw" would stand out a bit better.

Color?

My group is moving over from Yahoo.?

Your group is technically high quality, but your group pages are colorless and boring to look at.?

In Yahoo we see our group photo when we read our messages.
No so in your website. ?No group photo.?

And in Yahoo our message subjects titles are a nice active-looking blue color.?
(your message subject titles are seemingly inactive dull gray)?

Is there any way to make our group webpage have some visual appeal?

Thanks,

charging membership to group members

I have searched the archives and cannot find the answer to the following question.? Is it against groups.io guidelines to charge a membership fee to the members of a group I am planning on transferring to this platform?? Thanks, Claudia

Re: Deleting a YGroup VS waiting for Yahoo's Axe to fal . . .!

It's possible that your YGroup has been "advertised" on many other websites, so just killing it entirely *might* be bad.? I suggest editing the home page/welcome page/advertising page on Yahoo to state at the group has moved and include a link in plain text to the new group.? ?In case yahoo disables html, new people could maybe copy/paste the link, so make it visible like that.

To check how it displays, you can open a different browser or a private/incognito session and go to the group page without logging in.

Re: Migrating the Yahoo stragglers

From experience I will tell you it's better to ask you members to try to hold their posts until transfer is complete if they can. If there IS urgent traffic, *and they have received the notice that they are members* of your group on groups.io (a sign the memberships have transferred) have them post to groups.io as Duane suggested. When the posts display on the web page, just make sure they display in chronological order, not message number order. (Because if they post while the messages are transferring, their posts will have message numbers that fall into the middle of the transferred messages.)
Dano - (been there, done that)

You will not see the migration; it will just happen. Unless it is absolutely essential that your existing group keeps functioning it might be better to advise your members of the forthcoming migration and suggest that they don't post until such time as they have been notified by Groups.io that the migration is complete at which point they should use Groups.io not Yahoo.
