Indeed Deane, Don't forget to cc your thoughts to the Verizon corporate offices and their board of directors to let them know how you will feel about using any Verizon products in the future?

We're all having sleepless nights for sure!!!

In reading all the posts in this and the beta forum everyone is doing the best they can and it's great to people being so civil despite such a horrible moment in internet history... And how many of us are so busy rescuing the most important stuff that we've barely had a chance to warn everyone else? Hard times! More sleepless nights to come!

I feel so awful for so much that's going to be lost, especially among our elders who have already passed on who's only record of their online writings are going to be in these yahogroups emails... And all the pet and people adoption groups, the genealogy groups... It's like bulldozing a one-of-a-kind library without taking the books out first.

At some point we need online data protection laws so the cost of deleting decades of archives after a merger is way, way more expensive than maintaining them.

I've no doubt that scholars, researchers and historians will be referencing this event for many decades to come!

Be well, Deane

It used to send an automated reply, but that's been delayed a bit (up to 2 days in one case that I'm aware of) recently.? I think some of it is from the extra load of transfers, but that's just a personal guess.

Clarification regarding moving a Yahoo group to a groups.io subgroup #transfer #subgroups

Hello,
I successfully moved a Yahoo group here to groups.io. Now I want to move another Yahoo group over to become a sub group.
Two questions:

1) Is it possible to move a yahoo group directly to the subgroup? I understand that they will be members of the main group too. Or does the group get transferred to the main group and I (or they) subscribe them to the subgroup?

2) What happens with this list's archived info? Can it go directly under the sub group and not be mixed in with the main group's archive (my ideal)?

3) If there's a way to transfer the second Yahoo Group directly to the subgroup, we're not seeing how to do it via the "Easy Transfer .." pages. Can someone walk me through this?

Basically I'd love for this second Yahoo group to be self-contained as as a sub group, as much as possible. Just wondering what I'm able to do.

Thank you!
Jane

I'd change that to include instructions for logging in without a password - /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-in-and-How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password? They've already been registered and have an account if you transfer the group from Yahoo.

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

It is a few years, definitely at least 3 or 4, that a friend and I tried to get yahoo to elevate my friend (who was a moderator) to owner and me to co-owner as new membership applications had to be approved and she couldn¡¯t do it. ?The owner had gone missing and totally ignored any attempts to get in touch with her.

We never got any helpful response from yahoo at all and the group died.
So yahoo ignoring the needs of groups is not a new thing. ?And absent owners and the failure by yahoo to help and support the memberships of those groups have always been a problem with yahoo groups.

[email protected] e-mail address?

Hi All,
My first day posting here. Does the [email protected] address generate any sort of acknowledgement indicating mail sent there was successfully receiveed and in queue for an eventual response? I wrote approx 18 hours ago about a free to premium upgrade failure and am not sure what type of response to expect during this busy time.

Thanks,
Charlie

Once in awhile someone makes a typo on their email address, so the Confirmation Email doesn't actually go to a real address.? I resend the notice once, then wait a week.? I do have a Removed Member notice set up that says, "Your email address hasn't been confirmed, so you've been removed from the group.? You may rejoin, but be sure to click on the link in the email you receive from Groups.io to confirm your email address." just in case they've overlooked it.

Locked Latest info on the Pricing Structure #admin

Folks -- Appended below is the latest from Mark on the groups.io pricing structure.

Bottom line: the requirements for a Basic group will remain unchanged for now.

Bruce

Hi All,
?
Sometimes I reflect on my youth, and harken back to that simpler time, that quieter time. You know, seven days ago.
?
I appreciate all the feedback, and I mean ALL of it. My intention with the pricing change is solely to set up the business for long term success and to help offset the very large increase in my costs over just this past week.
?
I realize it was a mistake to talk about future changes to the pricing structure without actually, you know, knowing what those changes might (or might not) be. As part of that, it was a mistake to change the definition of a free group right now. I've rolled back that change; new free groups do not have limits on the number of subscribers and subgroups. Hopefully this will address Harm Selling's concern, among others. Also, this means that any groups that wish to move over but cannot afford the transfer fee can still take advantage of a free group's invite feature.
?
I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
?
Thanks,
Mark

I know Cynthia, I am a little nervous. I sent the invitation 5 or 6 days ago and paid for the premium membership 2-3 days ago. Still nothing, and getting nervous as we get closer to Oct 28. I have over 10,000 members on my list and don't want to lose them.

Before I read these instructions I just clicked on the default Welcome message and customized it. I didn't add and activate an entirely new Welcome notification. Have I screwed up?
No, you didn't.
You customized a section of the default Welcome message, which is fine.

If you also want you own Welcome message(s) and/or other types of automated messages, follow the instructions above and explore the different "Notice Types".

Re: Delivery of Yahoo Group Messages

What I wrote in this case is not appropriate for general use. What I wrote is highly focused on a particular group and its transfer issues. Below is a more general message I've also used on some Groups I've transferred:

................
I have completed the transfer of ##### at yahoogroups.com to the new ##### groups.io email reflector and Group website.

All the existing Yahoo Group membership names, messages, photos and files transferred successfully to the new club groups.io Group. You should have received an email from groups.io welcoming you to the new Group address.

To send messages to your club members using the new Group, use this email address:

#####@groups.io

Please add the above address to your email addressbook and delete the old #####@yahoogroups.com entry.

The new Group has a club Group website just as did the old Yahoo Group. Here is the new ##### Group website address:

/g/#####

I recommend you add this web address to your browser bookmarks.

The functionality of the new Group is essentially identical to that of the old, about to vanish, Yahoo Group. You are still allowed to have attachments to your postings, though attached pictures will be resized to no more than ##### x ##### pixels. This is to conserve space on the groups.io server so we don't exceed the free Group service limit of 1GB of storage.

Yahoo membership is no longer required to visit the ##### Group website.

I encourage you to complete registration of yourself at groups.io by entering your email address and selecting a personal password at this website:

/register

Registration is free and this is a secure https website. As a result of the transfer process, you are already registered at groups.io but you have no password saved and cannot access some Group features. Be sure to use the same email address you used for #####@yahoogroups.com.

Yahoo will shortly delete all our pictures and files. But, all these photos and files have already been transferred to the new groups.io club Group website.

Please complete registration at groups.io, look around at the photos and files that transferred and ask if you have questions.
...........

I sent this message to the members at the old Yahoo Group. With some editing that message may be helpful.

Larry

Re: "Eligibility to join" pop-up for potential new members

On Oct 22, 2019, at 2:55 PM, Susan B <doggiesmail@...> wrote:

Our Yahoo group confirms eligibility to join our group when a potential new member clicks the join button. A message box pops up asking them to write a few sentences on why they want to join.

We are worried that our new group will not have this function when the join button is clicked. If not, how do we assess the eligibility of these potential new members? Due to time constraints for our volunteers, we hope we don¡¯t have to send each an individual request for information, even if that request is just a copy/paste into a new email addressed to the new person.

Is there a workaround for this if no request for eligibility information pops up when the join button is clicked? Is it possible to post a standing message next to the join button telling them they have to email us with their explanation of why they want to join?
Groups.io doesn't have that yet, hopefully someday it will.
This is what I do:

MAKE YOUR GROUP 'Restricted Membership' and use a "Pending Subscription Message"
Admin > Settings > Spam Control
Check the box next to "Restricted Membership"
I also recommend checking the box next to "New Users Moderated"
and use the "Unmoderate After" menu to select "1, 2, 3, or 4 approved messages"
Click on "Update Group" at bottom of page.
--
Admin > Settings
Click on "Member Notices"
Click on "+New Notice"
Select "Pending Subscription" from "Notice Type" menu
I change the message "Subject"
from: Your pending membership in the [email protected] group
to: Additional Information Required
Make sure box next to "Active Message" is checked.
Compose your "Pending Subscription" message telling them what you want to approve their membership
I suggest you tell them why and who wants it.
Click "Add Notice"
--

This "Pending Subscription Message" (sent to anyone who applies to join) and the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice that is sent to Owner/Moderator will both be sent at the same time, and a 14 day clock before the subscription application is automatically deleted will be started.

The "Pending Subscription Message" will not delay the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice, however an Owner/Moderator can put the 14 day clock on hold by 'Claiming' the application.
Click on "View Pending Member" in the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice email,
or go to the group's website Admin > Members
Select "Pending Members" (in the drop-down Members menu) if not already shown
Click on the row (not the check box) of the Pending Member
Click on "Claim Sub" at bottom of the page
The words "Claimed by <your name>" will appear in a blue box to the right of the applicant's email address
Now the 14 day clock has been stopped and only you can approve this Subscription by email.
NOTE: All Owners and any Moderator (with appropriate privileges) can still approve this Subscription at anytime at the website.
This allows you to wait until you get a reply to the "Pending Subscription Message".

To resend the "Pending Subscription Message" (if you get no response):
Check the box at the left end of that Pending Member's row
Select "Resend Pending Membership Notice" in the drop-down "Actions" menu
Click "Yes" in the "Verify Action" dialog window.
