Pablo, so you are saying that if you do NOT transfer the Yahoo group, you can just invite members without having to go to the Premium Yearly Plan, is that correct?Jan -- That is correct. You can set up a group on the Basic plan, invite the subscribers from your Yahoo Group, and pay nothing. However, if you want your content (files/photos/etc) to be copied over for you...and especially if you want your old messages to be moved over...you must pay the piper. So the first thing you have to decide is how valuable this old content may be to the continued functioning of the group. I went to the link you posted above and then someone posted that they could just copy and paste email addresses into the invitations box.?That will work. I'm nervous that I will mess it up.? Someone said they put email addresses in a file and then uploaded. You can do either, or both. Maybe getting too old for this, gee. It's not that hard to invite people, and there's really little you can do to mess things up. At worst, the invitations you attempt to send will not go out; at best, you will gain new confidence in how to run your group.? Regards, Bruce |
Re: transfer question

I can only think of two possibilities here: a typo when you entered the address into the Yahoo Group's Invite page, or Yahoo is backlogged in sending out Invitations. Notwithstanding the possible uptick in Invitations I'm skeptical of a backlog, as even Yahoo's automation should be able to handle that.

Have a look at the screenshots in GMF's step-by-step and see if anything seems out of place compared to what you are seeing. Then let us know.

Hi Frances,
I think I am missing something. Attachment one: Image of my "home" page filled in (I think) correctly with the "Group Name" Attachment two: My "join" page showing the email address instead of the group name. Chris BTW: I see you are from Toronto. Me too (long ago!). |

How do I proceed? You can delete the completed transfer and start another for the links, files, databases, and photos.? You may need to try more than once for each, depending on how well YG is behaving.? It's likely to be hit or miss from here on out. Several years ago I had great success with PGOffline, but it's also having problems because of the problems at YG. Re: Incomplete Transfer
Hi folks, The transfer of your Yahoo Group KX3 to your Groups.io group Elecraft-KX is complete. We've transferred the following parts of your group:
IMPORTANT: Yahoo Groups has been very unreliable lately. If you find that you are missing Photos, Files or Messages, it is because we were unable to export them due to problems with Yahoo Groups. Also, we do not transfer calendar events. Here are some statistics:
140 email addresses were not added because they were bouncing. ? 0 photos were transferred. The following photos were not transferred, due to problems with Yahoo: 0 files were transferred. 0 links were transferred. 0 databases were transferred.? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Howard Hoyt |

I just realized I wasn't being very clear. It's not the "home" page, but the "join" page:

Re: How to customize the "join" page
Chris, do you mean the Welcome notice or your group home page?
If you mean the Welcome notice, go to Member Notices tab in Admin, choose Welcome. Edit, activate it (check box) and save. If you mean your group home page, go to Admin, Settings, Edit. Update at the very bottom of the page. Frances -- FAQ on Moving from YahooGroups /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki /static/help More help: use the search button at the top of the Messages list. |
How to customize the "join" page
Chris - KC9AD
I am a brand new group owner and I see that many features can be customized in groups.io. But I can't see how to?customize the "join" page; I would like to replace the "Welcome to <group email address>, . . ." with "Welcome to <Group Name>, . . .". |
