Pablo, so you are saying that if you do NOT transfer the Yahoo group, you can just invite members without having to go to the Premium Yearly Plan, is that correct?
Jan -- That is correct. You can set up a group on the Basic plan, invite the subscribers from your Yahoo Group, and pay nothing.

However, if you want your content (files/photos/etc) to be copied over for you...and especially if you want your old messages to be moved over...you must pay the piper. So the first thing you have to decide is how valuable this old content may be to the continued functioning of the group.

I went to the link you posted above and then someone posted that they could just copy and paste email addresses into the invitations box.?
That will work.

I'm nervous that I will mess it up.? Someone said they put email addresses in a file and then uploaded.
You can do either, or both.

Maybe getting too old for this, gee.
It's not that hard to invite people, and there's really little you can do to mess things up. At worst, the invitations you attempt to send will not go out; at best, you will gain new confidence in how to run your group.?

Bruce

Dear Frances,

Thank you for your quick reply.? I will have a look at what you have mentioned below.

Shal wrote this earlier to someone else:

The prior steps of setting up the transfer set up the automation to expect an invitation from the group name you specified. So once the invitation is received that status notice should change promptly (from "Make sure you have sent an invite to your group for the user [email protected] ..." to "We've received the invite ..."
?
I can only think of two possibilities here: a typo when you entered the address into the Yahoo Group's Invite page, or Yahoo is backlogged in sending out Invitations. Notwithstanding the possible uptick in Invitations I'm skeptical of a backlog, as even Yahoo's automation should be able to handle that.
?
Have a look at the screenshots in GMF's step-by-step and see if anything seems out of place compared to what you are seeing. Then let us know.

Hi Frances,

I think I am missing something.
Attachment one: Image of my "home" page filled in (I think) correctly with the "Group Name"
Attachment two: My "join" page showing the email address instead of the group name.

Chris

BTW: I see you are from Toronto. Me too (long ago!).

You can delete the completed transfer and start another for the links, files, databases, and photos.? If it were me, I'd probably just try one at a time (whichever is most important first).? Once that one is successfully copied, move on to the next.? You may need to try more than once for each, depending on how well YG is behaving.? It's likely to be hit or miss from here on out.

Several years ago I had great success with PGOffline, but it's also having problems because of the problems at YG.

Re: Incomplete Transfer

Sorry, left out a thought:

If I try a new transfer of just files and/or photos by deleting the competed transfer in the "Easy Yahoo Group Transfer Setup" page, will it affect the current .io group?

Thanks,
Howard Hoyt

Re: How to customize the "join" page

Just change it! Use the three lines (hamburger menu) to open more editing.

Be sure to save at the end. Scroll WAY down!

See attached.

Re: Incomplete Transfer

Hi folks,
Thanks for the assistance.? I did indeed receive the "Completed" email, here is the body (edited for space):
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,

The transfer of your Yahoo Group KX3 to your Groups.io group Elecraft-KX is complete.

We've transferred the following parts of your group:

  • Members
  • Messages
  • Photos
  • Files
  • Links
  • Databases

IMPORTANT: Yahoo Groups has been very unreliable lately. If you find that you are missing Photos, Files or Messages, it is because we were unable to export them due to problems with Yahoo Groups. Also, we do not transfer calendar events.

Here are some statistics:

  1. Total Members Processed: 5719
  2. Successfully Added: 5498
  3. Bounced Members (Skipped): 140
  4. Moderated Members: 1093
  5. Members on Digest: 1247
  6. Undisclosed Emails (Skipped): 24

The following email addresses were not added:
1- 57...

140 email addresses were not added because they were bouncing.

?

0 photos were transferred.

The following photos were not transferred, due to problems with Yahoo:
(followed by hundreds of photo names which were not transferred)

0 files were transferred.

0 links were transferred.

0 databases were transferred.?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it looks as if the state of Yahoo at the time the transferal was attempted caused the problem.? I have tried two utilities to archive teh Yahoo site and both failed, despite the fact that I can see and DL the Files and Photos...How do I proceed?

Cheers!

Howard Hoyt

I just realized I wasn't being very clear. It's not the "home" page, but the "join" page:

Re: How to customize the "join" page

Chris - KC9AD

Hi Frances,

I see "Admin" and "Settings" but I do not see an "Edit" option. FYI, I only have a basic (free) account.

Chris

Re: How to customize the "join" page

Chris, do you mean the Welcome notice or your group home page?

If you mean the Welcome notice, go to Member Notices tab in Admin, choose Welcome. Edit, activate it (check box) and save.
If you mean your group home page, go to Admin, Settings, Edit. Update at the very bottom of the page.

How to customize the "join" page

Chris - KC9AD

I am a brand new group owner and I see that many features can be customized in groups.io. But I can't see how to?customize the "join" page; I would like to replace the "Welcome to <group email address>, . . ." with "Welcome to <Group Name>, . . .".

Is that possible? Can somebody guide me? Thanks.

Chris

Re: How to upgrade to premium #howto #upgrade

In the FAQ on Moving from YahooGroups.

5. How do I promote my group to Premium?
In Admin, choose +Upgrade
?
Or go to:
?
https://YOURGROUP.groups.io/g/main/billing
(substitute your group name)

Sorry, I don't know whether you can pay by debit card or PayPal. Anyone?

How to upgrade to premium #howto #upgrade

I've searched all over and I can't figure out how to upgrade my group from basic to premium.? Also, I did find a billing place where you enter a credit card.? But our nonprofit has only a debit card and PayPal.? Is there anyway of paying by one of those methods??

My experience is to just slam a file in there and it looks fine. Either in the cover page or the icon. Most intelligent image scaling I¡¯ve ever seen.?

I just figured out how to upgrade to premium so no need to respond to that.? However, I would still like to know about alternative payment methods.

And, one more thing, how do I obtain the 50% nonprofit discount?

Thanks, Jane

For the sake of argument, I'm going to assume you mean you are inviting it, not sending an email to it.

The following email addresses had errors:

This is the error message you get if you try to invite it to your groups.io group. You're supposed to log into Yahoo and invite it to your Yahoo Group.?
