Re: How to Effect a Transfer (was: create subgroup with transfer)

Robert....

I am not sure that I follow the above.? I want to do one thing.? I want to save 11 years worth of emails from my yahoo group. Will the The Chrome applications that Mark Fletcher wrote do this for me?? What kind of file format will all the emails be in??

I am not interested in down loading a list of members.? I want to down load all the email on the forum.

Is this a tool that will do that?? Are other tools available?

Thank you,

jack

Re: saving yahoo email

I paid the $110.00 Then I started the transfer.? Normally, will I/O move over all my email?? If they will then problem solved.

They did say something about yahoo not working well, and maybe they would not be able to transfer everything over.? What do I do if not all the email comes over?

Linda, that you for the link to

I will check it out.

Bruce, do you have any thoughts on saving all my email?? I would like it to appear in the I/O group after i moves over.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Based on this banner, you did not send the invitation correctly.

I must have had a typo in the email address I used for my invite yesterday, because I just checked, and my transfer setup transfer bar now says

Deborah -- It's entirely possible that you did everything right. Yahoo's invitation system is just one of many things that have become increasingly unreliable.

So, I'll just sit tight and wait for i.o to respond. Once I see their status banner acknowledge receipt of the invite I'll be able to relax a bit.
I've been there, and understand that this is stressful, probably even more so under the circumstances. Once you get the process completed you will not only breathe easier, but delight in working with a platform that -- for the most part -- will work the way you expect it to. [Not to mention have a support group that is actually responsive.]

James -- I understand completely. Photos and such are generally replaceable, old messages often are not.

When I got the email from I/O , they said they may not be able to transfer all of it - it seems like yahoo is acting up (I can believe that).? But if all my email is not moved over, I'd not know what to do.
If it sets your mind at ease, the message archive is usually the one thing that has reliably transferred intact. There are no guarantees, though, under the circumstances.

Do you or anyone else know of any software tools I can use or buy that would let me down load all my email?
If you have a lot of spare time on your hands, there are other options to download and save content from Yahoo Groups. Shal has previously mentioned three options in the following post:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19204?. I have used PG Offline successfully in the past, and Robert has given detailed instructions on how to use the Chrome browser add-on in?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19222?.

Or can I pay I/O extra money to have them give it another go at getting all my past email?
If you've paid the $110 for Premium Yearly, there is no additional cost involved in having the transfer agent make another attempt. You need only delete the completed transfer and start afresh. Be sure to UNcheck the boxes for those content areas that you don't want to retry.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Thanks for the information, Bruce.

This is the status banner I get:

<image.png>
I sent the invite yesterday afternoon. By ''It may take up to a week for us to process the invite" do they mean reply to the invite, because I'm not sure from this if they got it. My YG's posting address is evanstonpfwatch@..., so the name I typed in for i.o. was simply evanstonpfwatch. The YG address to subscribe is evanstonpfwatch-subscribe@..., so should the name I gave them have been evasntopfwatch-subscribe?

As always, am so grateful for the help.

As the banner above states, the Yahoo group invitation should have been sent to [email protected]. If you put in some other email address during the invitation process, that's why the transfer agent hasn't received it yet.

At this time you need to return to your Yahoo group and send another invitation.
?
Thank you, Bruce. I'm almost positive I invited [email protected] yesterday, but I just did it again, and YG confirmed the invitation was sent successfully.
?
Earlier today, I invited a friend, just to test the invite process. She got it right away, and when she followed the link, clicked on the purple 'Join this Group' button and then entered the necessary info, I got the YG? new member notification email. So, I'll just sit tight and wait for i.o to respond. Once I see their status banner acknowledge receipt of the invite I'll be able to relax a bit.

Many thanks -

Re: Moving to IOGroups

Susan, there has been quite a bit of discussion here about this. (Understatement!)?
See suggestions about the message archives.
And also about inviting members using Groups.io?
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Inviting-new-members

But I wanted to say that you could put a message on your YahooGroups saying that your site is moving.
Put in the new address.?
Before you do that, you might want to consider your setup on Groups.io.

Re: How To Make i.o. Cover Photo Banner Sized

Hi again,

Using Preview may distort your image. However it may not matter. I just tried with a photo with a group of people and that DOESN'T work well if you try to force it to 900 x 300. Keeping the Scale Proportionally box ticked worked better. ?I got a better photo but not a real banner photo. It is workable though.?

Moving to IOGroups

In order to move my list of 10,000+ members to io groups, the only way possible is to pay $110, right??

65 people have joined on their own but my concern is for the many people that read messages on the site that still don't know what is about to happen with YGroups shutting down the online portion. I have had the list since 2006 so I don't want to just wait and see what happens.

Thank you,
Susan

Re: Hotmail/Outlook email

You can also write a simple rule and place it at the top of the rule list:

Create a folder i.e. YOURGROUP_Messages
Apply this rule after the message arrives
from [email protected]
move it to the YOURGROUP_Messages folder
and stop processing more rules

Just a thought.

Subject: [GMF] Hotmail/Outlook email

Hello everyone,

Just thought I would post this. I have what was at one time Hotmail for my
email account. There have been a lot of groups.io messages ending up in the
junk mail folder for the last couple days. I know to move the emails from junk
mail to my email inbox before deleting any of them should I choose to do so.. I
thought I would post this in case others do not know to do this.

I have no idea why this has started happening all of a sudden.

I hope everyone has a great day and a great weekend.

Doug

This is an automatic feature.? The email sent in doesn't actually go to anyone.? If you have a restricted group (requiring approval of members) the person will end up in the Approval Needed queue.? If not, they're added to the group.

You determine whether you want to receive these under Owner Email as part of your Subscription as a group owner.? It's highly suggested that at least one owner or moderator choose to accept these.? By default, you should be set to receive All Messages to the Owner address.? If you don't, it will only get stored under the user's "Owner Email" tab and you may never know it was sent.

This is an auto reply address and nothing is stored anyplace.

Deborah -- Using your favorite image editing software, you need to crop the image to the required dimensions, not just resize it.

Ohhhh - I'll try that. THANK you.

Re: Forwarding emails #email

Ted, I believe you are asking where are the forwarding emails sent.

The Group Owner email address goes to you, if you are group owner.
See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Owner-emails

Unsubscribe is system. You don't do anything as owner.

If you want to know where you set your preferences - it is in your subscription - left side menu.

I think the Help email goes to the official Help page -?/static/help

The image can be any size you want.? It will be automatically scaled to fit in a 900x300 space.? I tried with a 422x317.? It was reduced to 399x300 and centered in the area.? Still not a banner, but looks good.

This subject is oft raised on GMF; members being unsubscribed for marking a message as spam is a problem from time to time.

The problem and appropriate measures in mitigation is covered in depth in the GMF wiki, specifically here.
