Second Transfer from Same Group (was: Has Anybody actually heard back from Groups.io?)

Walter -- Please note that before attempting a second transfer from the same group, you will first have to delete the completed one.

To do so, go to the Y!G transfer page, pull down the Existing Transfers menu to select the completed transfer, then click the red "Delete Completed Transfer" button.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Has Anybody actually heard back from Groups.io?

#3 has anybody done the pay route and gotten the process started--seen stuff moving over yet?

Yes, our group goes back fifteen years and had 1500 messages, they all transferred over, just took a few hours for them to show up.
?
#4 Does anybody know if we can start conversing on the new group if we intend to have our emails imported?
Would that mess up the transfer. Do we just sit and wait?

We started some test conversations before the transfer, no problems with that. I'm not sure if any were added during the transfer itself.
?
#5 will we have search ability for our archived Yahoo messages?

Yes, there is a search tab at the top of the messages page. I just tested it, picked a word that just appears in four of our 1500 messages and got the results instantly.
?
Unfortunately, our photos haven't come through yet, but I blame Yahoo for that. When we first did the transfer we couldn't see them at all, so I didn't expect them to come. But then they appeared again last night, we did a second transfer. We see placeholders for all the pictures and albums, but not populated. The photos appear again this morning in Yahoo, since I no longer have any pending transfers I'm going to try again.
?
On the transfer instruction page on groups.io it does give this message:
"Also note that it appears that most Photos sections are currently having an outage and it isn't known if they'll be restored prior to the deadline."

What do I do?

Approval of a new group involves review by groups.io support to ensure that the group adheres to the?Groups.io Terms of Service.

It can therefore take a few hours. Be patient and the issue will probably resolve itself.

Hope this helps,

Re: Timeout issue

Hi,

I would not count on groups.io changing the timeout to two minutes.? Technically, it can be done but for each long-running transaction, it keeps resources locked for that period of time, proportionally reducing the number of available resources for well-behaved email servers.

I would also put forward that while you say?a general fix, implying that something is broken on the Groups side,?that in fact nothing is broken.? There is nothing to fix on the Groups side.? ?Not to sound churlish but that problem is with these other email servers.??

Cheers!

Jim -- This situation of no continuity plan is all too common.

I've managed, with another tool, to download the whole message base to a Sqllite database, but having only member access there are nearly no email or other details of the list members. Are there known to be any ways of getting the message base into groups.io??
Unfortunately, no.

Rumor has it that one or two people who were able to get their message base into Unix mbox format were able to get their messages into a message archive with help from support. That was a few years ago, and I believe Mark has since been reluctant to do this, lest it become a vector for someone looking to steal someone else's group.?

Such abuse may seem unlikely, but it only has to happen once.

I suggest you continue to try to contact the existing group owner and/or Yahoo support and get someone on that end to give your subscription the necessary privileges. In doing so, please consider the possibility that the original Owner does not want the group to continue in his absence .

Failing that, the fallback is to print whatever message archive you are able to salvage into one long PDF file and upload that to the files area.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

That's fair enough and more or less what I expected. No doubt if I were really keen I could get a custom domain and create dummy user ids, then create a script to repost all the messages as coming from the dummy ids, but the game doesn't seem worth the candle. Not to mention 70,000 posts in a short space of time! I may look at front ending the sqllite archive with something, but of course the little matter of copyright comes into play, since I'm unlikely to be able to contact all those posters to seek permission.

thanks for your time, Jim C

Transfer/Import of Messages from Yahoo without a Yahoo Moderator

I have a Yahoo group to migrate with no Moderator or List owner - he's been uncontactable for a long time and is believed to be ill. I've managed, with another tool, to download the whole message base to a Sqllite database, but having only member access there are nearly no email or other details of the list members. Are there known to be any ways of getting the message base into groups.io? It seems clear that the standard transfer cannot work.

Re: Timeout issue

Thanks for the answer. I will ask the support then, hoping it is an easy fix. I usually think that when one account reports a problem there are more. So hopefully more people will profit from a general fix.

Stay Calm & Let Groups.IO carry on :)

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Wanted to thank those involved in this group for handling all of this extra message volume.

?

I migrated my group of 15K members almost 2 years ago. It was the best decision. There is no looking back from the YahooGroups experience. There is customer service support, amazing new features, this particular group is also invaluable, etc.

?

The transition process was even easier than I could have imagined.

Harlow -- In the group Settings, you can disable?any regular user's ability to modify calendar entries by choosing one of the "moderators can edit" options in the calendar Permissions block. But no, there is no option to "moderate" it.

Re: How To Make i.o. Cover Photo Banner Sized

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The banner size space is 900x300. Experiment uploading different size pictures to see what they look like, but if you want a full size banner it needs to be 900x300.

Subject: [GMF] How To Make i.o. Cover Photo Banner Sized

?

I apologize if this has already been answered, but I searched GMF for "cover photo"? and this particular question didn't come up in the search results. I know how to change the cover photo in i.o., but not how to make it appear as a banner. In YG it automatically was formatted as a banner. I looked in "Help" but couldn't find how to make it a banner, only how to change the photo. What is the trick?

Please how do you change the photo
On your group's Settings page, click on the "Cover Photo" button. Then browse to a file on your computer (device) containing the photo you want, and click the button to Set it.

Deborah,

results. I know how to change the cover photo in i.o., but not how to
make it appear as a banner.
As Bruce said, you need to use an image with a 3:1 aspect ratio.

You'll need some type of photo editing software to crop a source image down to that shape. Or a drawing program to create something that shape.
