Re: How To Make i.o. Cover Photo Banner Sized

The cover photo is rescaled to 300 pixels in the vertical dimension, or 900 pixels in the horizontal dimension. So if you want the image to span the width of the page you must provide an image with at least a 3:1 aspect ratio.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Oh. I don't know how to do that without distorting the image by stretching it out horizontally. :-(

Hotmail/Outlook email

Hello everyone,

Just thought I would post this. I have what was at one time Hotmail for my email account. There have been a lot of groups.io messages ending up in the junk mail folder for the last couple days. I know to move the emails from junk mail to my email inbox before deleting any of them should I choose to do so.. I thought I would post this in case others do not know to do this.

I have no idea why this has started happening all of a sudden.

I hope everyone has a great day and a great weekend.

Doug

Will download from yahoo site interfere with transfer of site to groups.io? #transfer

So as to have a backup to an existing yahoo gorup? I've requested that all data be downloaded from the existing Yahoo groups site.? ?Apparently this could take a month before I receive a notice that the data is "ready" for download.? In the meantime I'd like to transfer the group to groups.io.? Will the download attempt from yahoo interfere with the transfer of the site to groups.io?

Yes; set up a Pending Subscription Message; this will automatically be sent to anyone who applies to join, and you can ask them to explain their interest in your group and admit them (or otherwise) depending on their reply.
That "Pending Subscription Message" will be sent to anyone who applies to join, and the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice that is sent to Owner/Moderator will both be sent at the same time, which starts a 14 day clock before the subscription application is automatically deleted.
Unfortunately at this time, there is no automatic way to not start that clock until a reply is sent to the "Pending Subscription Message".

The "Pending Subscription Message" will not delay the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice, however an Owner/Moderator can put the 14 day clock on hold by 'Claiming' the application.
Click on "View Pending Member" in the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice email,
or go to the group's website: Admin > Members
Select "Pending Members" (in the drop-down Members menu) if not already shown
Click on the row (not the check box) of the Pending Member
Click on "Claim Sub" at bottom of the page
The words "Claimed by <your name>" will appear in a blue box to the right of the applicant's email address
Now the 14 clock has been stopped and only you can approve this Subscription by email.
NOTE: All Owners and any Moderator (with appropriate privileges) can still approve this Subscription at anytime at the website.
This allows you to wait until you get a reply to the "Pending Subscription Message", while removing the 'approve by email' option to other Owners and Moderators.

To resend the "Pending Subscription Message" (if you get no response):
Check the box at the left end of that Pending Member's row
Select "Resend Pending Membership Notice" in the drop-down "Actions" menu
Click "Yes" in the "Verify Action" dialog window.

Re: Yahoo not allowing [email protected] to be added to membership #yahoo

Anantz,

... when I tried to invite [email protected] to my group, Yahoo says "Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content."? Does anyone else get this issue?

From time to time. Not always the Invite page, and not really related to the transfer agent specifically. It seems that sometimes the scripting Yahoo puts in your browser gets out of sync with the code in their servers.

Try the "browser ritual":
  • Refresh
  • Ctrl+F5 refresh
  • Sign out and sign back in
  • Try a different browser
  • If you are using IE 10 or higher turn off compatibility mode
  • If you are using IE 9 or lower, don't.
  • Clear browser cache
  • Clear browser cookies and history

Try the actions in whatever order is easiest for you (Ctrl+F5 high on the list) and check after each step. You may not have to do them all (deleting cookies can be particularly inconvenient as it signs you out of Yahoo Groups and most other sites).

John -- You have to send messages from an email address that is subscribed to the group. Otherwise, groups.io has no way of knowing that email came from you.

Open your activity log (Admin>Activity) and look for a log entry along the lines of "Non-member email(at)domain(dot)com attempted to send message...."

Hope this helps,

Re: GIO and iOS #question #ios

Bee,

On an iPhone, open the group.
At the bottom of the screen, there is a More menu (horizontal lines).
Click to open the menu.?
Scroll down to Settings - way down! Click on it. You get Settings and three other tabs (Default Sub Settings, Cover Photo, Member Notices).

Margery -- As you might imagine under the circumstances, this has been reported by others recently (ref:?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19218). The speculation is that groups.io may throttle back on how quickly you can create groups as protection against spammers. Note also that all new groups undergo an initial review to ensure that they meet the?Groups.io Terms of Service. This can also introduce delays.

Since Joe M has not returned with more complaints it appears to have been a temporary condition. Please let us know if you continue to have problems along these lines tomorrow.

Creating New Groups - Limit?

Could not find this so apologies if it is in the wiki - to move all of our groups from yahoogroups to groups.io, it means creating a total of 24 new groups.? I was able to create 12 of them yesterday and then 8 this morning.? Is there a limit as to how many groups we can create at a time?? I still have 4 more to add.

Thanks,

Your login is stored as a browser cookie. If you switch to a different device or a browser...or for any reason delete cookies...then you will find yourself logged out.

I setup a group for testing some time ago under an account which I can¡¯t
remember. I also just set up a new account and it shows me as a member of
the aforementioned group but not the owner. How do I delete or move that
former test group to my current account? Or do I need to put in a support
ticket and can you do it internally? I can¡¯t remember the name of the
account.

I saw this message when I sent the invitation, too. ?However when I went back to my Yahoo group¡¯s invite page, it told me I could only invite 99 more members that day so I knew it had gone out.

when you check back on the Transfer page for your IOG group, you should see a message saying your invitation was received and you don¡¯t need to do anything more until it is accepted.

The transfer agent will do nothing to your Yahoo group. All it does is copy the content.

If we use the test group (which includes the word test); can the group be renamed afterwards?
Yes, but it is not recommended. Better to rename it now, prior to the transfer, or having a bunch of people join and/or post. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group

Our network includes over 600 members.? Can groups.io handle that volume?
Easily.

If we need more than 1GB of storage, how do we obtain it.
You will have to either upgrade to Premium access, or delete some of your group content.?

Upgrading to Premium is achieved via Admin>Upgrade and clicking on the "View/Change Plan" button. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos and also?/static/pricing

Migration questions

Hi,

We are considering switching our community network to groups.io.? I have created a test group.? I have a few questions.

  1. If we migrate to groups.io does our Yahoo group cease to function and are posts no longer get available through Yahoo?
  2. If we use the test group (which includes the word test); can the group be renamed afterwards?
  3. Our network includes over 600 members.? Can groups.io handle that volume?
  4. If we need more than 1GB of storage, how do we obtain it.

Thank you for your assistance.

You explained it well Bruce. Hopefully I will be able to get this fixed. One of my group members was able to post to the group without an issue. That really has me scratching my head LOL...

Bob -- One of the advantages of groups.io is that you don't need to have to set up a separate "account," just an email address.

Now that they are transferred to groups.io, their email in their profile is the Yahoo email. Is there an issue if they log into groups.io and change their email to one they regularly use? Is this even possible.
Yes. The process is fairly straightforward, but some folks seem to struggle with it anyway.

As you noted, they will first have to log in. It is possible to login without a password, using the "email me a link" method. However, I do recommend that all subscribers establish a login password eventually. More detailed login instructions can be found here:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In

Once logged in, go to your Account page. This can be done by pulling down the menu at top right and selecting Account, or simply browsing to?/account

The top box of your Account page should display the email address currently associated with your login. Type in your new email address, overwriting what is already there.

Click the "Change Email" button, and look for the?email that will be sent to the new email address. Click on the link in that email and you will be all set.

Please note that those having Premium groups are capable of changing the email address of subscribers for them. If you want instructions for that, let us know.

Bruce

Can't Send Messages to Group

JOHN

I just signed up with I also created a group. For some reason I can't send messages to the group. All the messages I sent via failed to be delivered to the group.

I used what I thought the email address: [email protected] I used the address that I registered with as the sender. One of the group members is able to post messages without any problem. I'm at a loss as to why this issue is occurring. Please assist me to find a solution. Thank you
