Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups
Email messages/posts will 'pass-through' but NOT be saved/stored nor able to be read 'on-site' (as some of us preferred, who used email only as a backup or as email search is sometimes better the YahOop's searches.)
Digests will not exist, so if you are in 12 lists that generate 12 emails daily you might want rmto create 12 Folders in your email to separate them. BillSF9c I am confused, but maybe someone here can clarify.? What content will exist if all user-generated content is deleted? Emails are user generated. I understand that all downloads are going away - photos, links, attachments, files, etc., but will conversations also be gone? If they are being deleted, then what does "the ability to post and receive by email" mean? Will we be able to post to the site, but then, after some specific amount of time, the posts will disappear?

Controlled Access?
Hi, I'm not exactly how to phrase this question, so I hope I can make it clear.
I want to move a yahoo group (doesn't everybody, now?)? We actually looked at moving a while ago, but could not find a feature we depend on, namely, the ability to vet an application for entry.? ?We ask people who would like to join to share a sentence or two about what qualifies them to join us.? We are a support group where sensitive things are shared and don't really want looky-loos or researchers, and while we can't be sure they are not lying, our experience is that asking people to state their qualifications tends to keep out a lot of the riff-raff. On Yahoo, that statement appears next to the applicant's name on a page available to all moderators, so it's a simple matter of checking the approve button if the statement passes muster, or sending a followup email if the person failed to provide any info or if they say something like "I'm a student of this thing" I manage a neighborhood list here on Groups.io, and have seen that all I get is a notification email that somebody wants in, there doesn't seem to be a place for them to put anything but their email.? I wind up blindly approving new folks there, as we are hardly a magnet for anybody not in the neighborhood. Is there a way we can do this sort of vetting on Groups.io? |
YahooGroups to groups.io > should have done it sooner!

Pablo Sanchez
Hi everyone,
For the most part our migration from Yahoo Groups to groups.io has been seamless.? We had about 1,000 members on YG. I've made some errors ... :p ... but it's a breath of fresh air to have software that rocks:??
Thx! -pablo |
Re: Transferring Small Yahoo Groups
The files and photos definitely aren't gone. I've been downloading all afternoon. That said, the files are much easier to access than the photos. I get errors frequently when trying to download photos. I expect Yahoo is a bit overwhelmed at the demand right now, since so many of us are doing the same thing.?

lock or moderate topic questions

Re: Yahoo Files and Photos
William,
?
does anyone know if the files and photos are gone on the Yahoo side.? I don't think they are actually gone from Yahoo's servers, yet, simply inaccessible. That's based on prior similar incidents where Y!GMF members reported their photos missing, but they later returned. This has happened several times over the last few years for some groups.
?
I have signed up for a migration just wandered if I just spent $110 for nothing. If they don't come through in your first transfer attempt, but you see them return to your Yahoo Group, you can try another transfer, selecting only the Photos (or Files). The fly in the ointment is the limited time span before they are actually removed - there's no way to guess whether Yahoo will fix them first.

Re: Yahoo member migration if "No Email" status
Yes and that way they are still not getting emails but receive something if I send a message out, correct? Susan

The "Special Notices" option provides that functionality, and is the default if a "no email" person is transferred into a groups.io group that does not permit the "no email" message delivery option. Browser crash when uploading a file
I have reported this to support and am waiting a reply. But thought maybe someone here might have some additional insight. When we upload a binary file to our forum's Files section, Chrome crashes with the "Aw, snap" message and some of the file's header text shown in a thumbnail. Firefox just locks up completely on the "Upload File" screen when we upload it. This is a binary file (in the astronomy FITS format).? The site is apparently noticing the file's text header and trying to show a thumbnail.? We are not using any File storage, so our quota isn't exceeded.? And, the file is just 16 MB, which from what I've read shouldn't be a problem. Here's a sample file that shows the problem:?.? Is there a way to turn off File and Photo previews? Any other suggestions? Admins should feel free to delete this post if it's too user-specific. TIA |
Re: Uploading Stuff to GIO (was: How to Effect a Transfer)
Are these instructions for uploading folders of photos from your computer, rather than YahooGroup? Because I got all excited thinking this was a way to manually transfer my group photos folder by folder. I'm guessing that is not possible?
