Has Anybody actually heard back from Groups.io?
Karen (mod)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI would like to pay the $110 to get our email archive migrated.
?
#1 Has anybody actually heard back from groups.io? Heard from a real person? Has anybody gotten word about how long this will take and how much of a back log there? is?
?
I did send a query request yesterday and did not hear back on that. And that was before I knew we had to go the pay option because I set the account up in 2016 but did not do the move.
?
It might take months for them to get through a backlog--there may be 10,000 requests for a transfer.
?
#2 Is it really just one guy doing the work?
?
We might lose all functions at Yahoo before our group gets migrated.
?
#3 has anybody done the pay route and gotten the process started--seen stuff moving over yet?
?
#4 Does anybody know if we can start conversing on the new group if we intend to have our emails imported?
Would that mess up the transfer. Do we just sit and wait?
?
#5 will we have search ability for our archived Yahoo messages?
?
Feel free to type your responses between the lines.
I almost feel email is a bad way to do this discussion. We need a Slack board or something ( :
?
Thanks for your help and I feel your pain.
?
Best,
Karen at GlyphStudy Yahoo groups

Do you think I've screwed something up?Deborah -- I don't think clicking the "Start Group Transfer Process" a second time with empty group fields is going to hurt anything. But you can check status as follows: Return to the Yahoo groups transfer page and select the transfer you've initiated from the pull-down menu at bottom right. There should be a status banner at the top of the resulting page. Based on what you've told us, it should say something to the effect of "we have received your invitation and will accept it soon, there is no need to send another invite." If you see that, you're fine. Wait until [email protected]?joins your Yahoo group (you should get an email), and promote it to a Moderator. Instructions for promoting can be found at?. At that point the button on the same transfer page at lower left should say "Give Go Ahead to Transfer." Click that when you're ready, wait for the process to complete, and (hopefully) rejoice. Hope this helps, Bruce |
Re: Group Transfer Issue
BillSF9c, We have a group for Transfer but have a crippling issue; Only 1.Moderator remains and he cannot make the io.transfer (name?) also a Moderator. That's unfortunate. Without someone with that capability you're out of luck for the Easy Group Transfer. You'll need to basically start with nothing as far as Conversations are concerned, manage the Invite or Direct Add of members yourself, and upload any other content you want that you can salvage from the Yahoo Group. Thanks for confirming my fears. Sadly I'm not prepared to wet-nurse them by correcting their errors and omissions, unless it's related to the technicalities of the subject, otherwise I could spend all day doing it and it's for their benefit as much, or more, than mine.I guess I need to find how to make suggested improvements..to .io

Re: [email protected] not working for me
So, in January of last year (when it was free) I did request a transfer to the i.o. group I set up, did the invite from my YahooGroup, and then never heard back. I wish I'd have followed up then but I didn't. Now I've just paid the $110 (I cannot afford) to transfer my group. I printed out the instructions on how to transfer that are printed here, but once I clicked on Set Up New Transfer I saw that the instructions on the i.o. page say they've changed, so I used them instead. Here's where I'm stuck. Note, # 3 of the i.o. instructions is to send an invite from your YahooGroup. (Done) #4 says, after i.o. accepts the invite, to make them a moderator. The instructions don't say that after sending the invite you're supposed to click on the Start Group Transfer button on the bottom of the page. I did click on it though, because it's there and it "felt" wrong to just leave the page after just sending the invitation, but now I'm not sure that I should have done that. Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups
Oh man, missed that bit. THAT will be a huge issue on my groups. What will happen to all those on digest when the change happens, do you think? They just won't get any emails at all?? Per ?:
Regards, Bruce |
Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups
Oh yes thank you for bringing that up! My list of 10,000+ members is a high volume list so if the digest function goes away, people are going to be upset.? Susan

Is there any way of forcing hashtags to photos in the same way that they are forced to messages? There is no such functionality, but you can update the names of photo albums yourself. Just click the Edit Album button and change the Title field to something more mnemonic. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Re: Browser crash when uploading a file
Tom -- Some files have in the past been reported to cause a "broken-link" type thing to appear in the dialog box, trying to render a thumbnail image. But that was a cosmetic problem; if you subsequently clicked on the "Add" button the upload proceeded anyway.
But for that FITS file, I tried it too, and had to reboot my computer to get a browser window (Chrome) back. So this is a new one on me, and I suspect only support can help you. Be sure to tag it with a #bug hashtag to catch his eye. Some things can linger in the queue for quite some time after initial triage, but he's usually pretty quick about fixing actual bugs. Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups
Regarding the last sentence:? You won't be able to use the group's Conversations section to post a New Topic or Reply, but you will still be able to post or reply to the group from your email interface. Hint: be sure your membership is set to receive Individual Emails. Do you mean the digests won't work anymore after Oct 28 or Dec 14? Sally |
Re: Controlled Access?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi. You could use the ¡°pending subscription¡± notice as a way to do it.
Thanks.

Hi, I'm not exactly how to phrase this question, so I hope I can make it clear.Sent: Friday, October 18, 2019 10:07 To: [email protected] Subject: [GMF] Controlled Access? ?
I want to move a yahoo group (doesn't everybody, now?)? We actually looked at moving a while ago, but could not find a feature we depend on, namely, the ability to vet an application for entry.? ?We ask people who would like to join to share a sentence or two about what qualifies them to join us.? We are a support group where sensitive things are shared and don't really want looky-loos or researchers, and while we can't be sure they are not lying, our experience is that asking people to state their qualifications tends to keep out a lot of the riff-raff. On Yahoo, that statement appears next to the applicant's name on a page available to all moderators, so it's a simple matter of checking the approve button if the statement passes muster, or sending a followup email if the person failed to provide any info or if they say something like "I'm a student of this thing" I manage a neighborhood list here on Groups.io, and have seen that all I get is a notification email that somebody wants in, there doesn't seem to be a place for them to put anything but their email.? I wind up blindly approving new folks there, as we are hardly a magnet for anybody not in the neighborhood. Is there a way we can do this sort of vetting on Groups.io? |
