Although I may have missed something I don't think you specifically stated that your setting up (a lot of) new groups was in order to facilitiate a mass - migration from Yahoo.

I am at a loss to understand why you would think it was "one payment per account holder" rather than "one payment per migrated group".

If you ran a supermarket and 50 people each came in to but a pack of frozen peas you would charge each of them the price of a single pack. If a single person came in to buy 50 packs, I greatly doubt if you would let them walk out having paid for just a single pack.

Mark introduced the "migration fee" to cover the time and costs involved. IMHO your expecting a major discount is somewhat unreasonable.

You'd need to do it manually if you're not paying for a transfer.? It can be time consuming and "ownership" of all the items will be in your name.? If the person that originally uploaded a picture is on the new group, you can manually assign ownership to them (if you know who it was.)? There's currently not a similar function for Files.

Re: groups.io employees?

Jeri,

But you mentioned employees, plural - so is it more than just Mark
Fletcher now?
I don't know. My use of the plural was referring to we, the members and mods of GMF.

In beta he has mentioned other people working on the mobile app, and on a user's manual, and a long time ago on the Search function; but those are likely contractors rather than employees.

Re: How to Effect a Transfer

I have exported my Yahoo Group membership lists and will use that to send invitations to join the groups.io groups. This works for me because all my groups are small.

I see the several ways to use third-party software to download pictures and files. Once downloaded, how can these be uploaded to the groups.io groups?

Hi Shal,

Samuel,

Somewhere I've also heard that message archives will be removed, so,
but, what is a message archive? Is that simply all old messages?
Conversations is what Yahoo calls the group's message archive. So yes, the online storage of all prior messages.

It sounds as if you would still be able to use the group to send
mails, but you won't be able to read mails online (since no mails are
stored online anymore). Is that how you understand it as well?
You won't be able to use the group's Conversations section to post a New Topic or Reply, but you will still be able to post or reply to the group from your email interface. Hint: be sure your membership is set to receive Individual Emails.

Thanks Jennifer - that's perfect. ? I was looking all the way down the settings page and completely missed the buttons across the top! ?? Now to create a couple of pictures 900x300 and 200x200.

Hi Dave,?
On left menu - click on Settings.
Across the top area are 5 buttons.? Click the 3rd button = Cover Photo.?
That brings you to a page where you can change the Cover Photo or the Icon for mobile phones.

Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups

nobe,

Is Yahoo closing everything down, such as emails or just Yahoo groups?
Neither.

Only Yahoo Groups is affected, but it isn't a closure of Yahoo Groups --
parts will remain including the ability to post and receive messages by email. Read the details here:

Good Evening!

In reading all mail about Yahoo closing down, I have a question.

Is Yahoo closing everything down, such as emails or just Yahoo groups?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups

Joe,

Maybe an admiin can put a 24-hour grace on my account for adding them.
Only [email protected] can help you with that. Or you could suggest it in the beta group as a general improvement:

Re: Migration questions

Tom,

What happens to posts in the above scenario? Are email addresses
removed from the postmark/banners of Yahoo messages?
As Bruce said, no. Nor are any email addresses removed from the body of messages (as when someone quotes another's message).

Also, content such as files and photos won't be attributed to the appropriate member (they'll have no subscription to link to), instead they'll be attributed to the user that initiates the transfer.

So generally I recommend transferring members in the first (possibly only) transfer.

Me neither. I have 20 YahooGroups lists but one list has over 10,000 members. Others are 2,000 members or less.

I am not paying for anything.

Help with new groups and new members #groupowner #settings #howtoguide

Hello,

There are lots of people looking for help due to the upcoming changes at YahooGroups.

This group (GMF) has a wiki that everyone, member or not, can use.?
The section for group members includes a Quick-start guide. How to join. How to log in. Reading, replying through email and on the group homepage.
And much more.?

There is a large section with Best Practices for Group Management.?
The first topic is an overview - Group Formation. Advice about subgroups, member management, bouncing, etc.

Topics reflect frequently asked questions so I hope you will find the wiki helpful for the transition. You can also suggest that potential or future group members can look it over. Just use the URL.

Additionally there is the official help -?/static/help
Of course, you can ask here or search the Message archive.

And welcome!

You cannot. A digest is sent after each batch of 12 messages accumulate, or at the end of the day, whichever comes first.
