Yahoo group transfer -- how many can I request? #yahoo #transfer

Hi,

I just received a notice from Yahoo that they are going to delete all group uploads in mid-December. That appears to cover the email archives as well (I assume that's what "message history" means).

I am a leader in a local non-profit that has archives going back to 2012 on two Yahoo groups. We had been using those for reference and assuming they would stick around. I guess not.

So I re-read the Easy Group Transfer information. It now states that we have to upgrade to Premium for a year. That is fine.

My question is, can I get both of those groups' archives transferred over for the one fee? They both belong to the same organization -- but one is for announcements and the other for discussion. Or do I need to pay the annual fee for each?

Thank you,
Su

Re: Finding storage

Hi Irene,

What counts towards a Group¡¯s Storage Limit?
The following are counted towards the storage limits for your group:
?
  • Files
  • Photos
  • Images in databases
  • Images in wiki pages
  • Message attachments
Messages themselves are not counted towards the storage limits, only any attachments.
?
See this wiki page for the two ways of figuring out what you are using:
?
The second method that is described is available to all subscribers on a group.?

Finding storage

Irene R

Greetings,
I am new to being an Owner of a group, so please bear with me.
I understand the Basic group storage limit is 1GB, of which the amount is not counted in the body of the text.
Where can I find where the amount of storage used, or amount left, is???
Also, if photos are included as part of the body, is that counted towards the storage amount, or only counted as attachments?
Thank you in advance for any responses.? Please keep them in layman's terms.

Blessings to You!

Timeout issue

In our list are several members of the same organization and all Groups.io emails bounced due to timeout. There IT now found out why that is: There server needs 2min to process emails but the groups.io server times out after 1min. Is there any possibility to set the timeout of groups.io to 2min?

Re: reset 2nd authentication option

Thanks, I've reached out to them.? Worst case I'll just delete the account and then re-create it.

You can try [email protected], but I don't know if they'll even do it.

reset 2nd authentication option

I'm an owner of a group, and I personally have TWO accounts in that group (as owner and moderator), both set up with the second authentication option.? No backup codes.? I have no problem accessing the group in one account using the second authentication option, however, for some reason I cannot access my second authentication on the other account, so I wish to turn it off and re-establish it.? Who at groups.io do I reach out, to do that?? Thanks.

A little follow-up to the above:? If you click on a "Join This Group" button while logged in, it will subscribe whatever address you are logged in under. If you want to subscribe using a different address, you have to log out before clicking the button. At that point groups.io will display a box asking for your email address, create a second account, and send an email to that address asking you to confirm it.

The other option of course is to send a +subscribe message to the group you want to join directly from the new email address.

Okay, I hope that makes the actual process more clear.

Bruce
Another way to avoid the logout / login issue is to just use another browser. Chrome is my preference for a browser, but since I have Windows 10 and I am forced to having MS Edge, I figure I may as well get some use out of it.

Doesn't matter. Groups.io is not Yahoo!

Sure. Each email address is its own account.

You can even subscribe two addresses to the same group. If you do that, you might want to set one of the subscriptions to "no email."

How?
Subscribe to the other group(s) using the other email address, and group messages will post to that address.

Note, however, that this can lead to later confusion, because you can't be logged in under both addresses at the same time using the same device. It often happens that you log in using one address and find yourself unable to access content accessible only to the other. So if you often use the web interface, you may find yourself logging in and out a lot.

It is also possible to set up one address as a post-only alias for the other, but I don't think that's what you're wanting. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts?and?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/18329?for more info.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Weird Behavior when Viewing Members Info - email flashes on the screen, then is replace with mine

Have you checked your mouse? I get similar behaviors when the battery on a Bluetooth mouse gets marginally low or there is RF interference. It might be worth trying a different mouse. I keep a tethered mouse around for trouble shooting.
Best, Marv

Can I have one email address for the group I am the owner of and one email address for all the rest?

How?

Harlan, Cindy,

I will do that and also copy Cindy.
I see Mark has made a change that seems related, possibly in response to your report:

CHANGE: Added autocomplete="off" to email fields when viewing a member

Has this resolved your issue?

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

CHANGE: When forwarding a message using the Mac email client (and
maybe others), it takes the forwarded message, encloses it in a
blockquote and adds at the top 'Begin forwarded message'. Because it
was in a blockquote, we were collapsing it. This was not good
behavior, so we now look for this special case and don't collapse
that blockquote.
That's an interesting case when a message forwarded to a Groups.io group. I know I've seen messages like that, but reading by email I wouldn't have guessed that the forwarded part might be collapsed when viewed in the Messages section.

BUGFIX: When dealing with a message from someone not a part of the
group, who has DMARC p=reject set on their domain, use their name in
the From line (ie Mark Fletcher via Groups.io). Previously this was
blank.
Presumably this means "if the original From field had a Display Name part". Otherwise I don't know where the name would come from.

CHANGE: Added autocomplete="off" to email fields when viewing a member
and when viewing your account information to prevent the browser
from changing the fields.
Ah, hopefully that fixes the problem reported by Cindy and Harlan here:
/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/34398185

Comments about these others are also welcome:

INTERNAL: More work on the API webhooks system.
API: Added open_donations_visible to perms object.
API: Added hashtags_visible to perms object.
API: Removed view_archives from perms object.
API: Changed view_guidelines to guidelines_visible in perms object.
API: Added subgroups_visible to perms object.
API: Added perms field to member_info object.
API: Added new Subs array to user object.
API: The member_info object now only returns the fields that are set
by the endpoint. Previously it returned all fields, regardless of
whether the fields were set or not (some endpoints won't set all the
fields based on permissions).
CHANGE: When banning a member of a group, we now generate a past
member object for them so they properly appear in the past members
list.

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: What is the web address of my new group.io?

Glenn,

I have what is probably a silly question. My old Yahoo Group website
address was

What would my new website address be for Cruisers Network Online?
There's actually no connection between the two.

That is, the first step in the transfer instructions is to create a Groups.io group. The name (aka email address and web address) was set when you created the group, there is no requirement that the Groups.io group be given the same "name" as the Yahoo Group.

I have tried /g/CruisersNetworkOnline, but it doesn¡¯t
seem to work.
As others have reported that address seems to work now, I'm not sure why you had a problem with it. Hopefully it is working for you now.

When I transferred my main group, about a year and a half ago, I lost about a third of the photos. Annoyed, I went to the group myself and was unable to see these same photos using Yahoo's own web interface. Hmmm...

A couple of weeks later, things seemed to sort themselves out; and I was able to download them manually and re-upload them to the group without initiating a second transfer. Hopefully you'll have a similar experience.

The best time to initiate any transfer is when Yahoo is performing well.?It is a common fallacy that a group owner chooses to abandon Y!G while their servers are crashing and burning and then wonders why the transfer agent can't perform a miracle.

Good luck,
Bruce

Re: No pictures [transferred from a Yahoo group]

Edited

Greg,

The transfer shows complete, but none of the pictures got transferred.
There are at least a couple of possibilities:

1) Images that were posted by email (in the Photomatic tab rather than the Albums tab) will not be copied. This is true of all messages attachments, not just photos.

2) There are current reports in Y!GMF and YGOG that the Photos sections of Y!Groups are displaying blank boxes rather than photos. In some cases all photos are missing, in others only a few photos still show, in other cases only a few are blank. This is true of my Yahoo Groups as well.

If Yahoo Groups' own web interface can't access the photo images then it may not be possible for Groups.io's transfer agent to obtain a copy of them either. The good news, to stretch the word "good" a bit, is that past instances indicate that the photos are not lost; the image files are still on Yahoo's servers, but the connection to the servers has broken. In those cases the functionality has returned after some days, weeks, or months.

In this case you may be able to wait until the Photos section in Yahoo Groups returns to being functional, and then request another transfer, this time selecting only the Photos checkbox.

If we lose these it will be a disaster.
You might want to try PG Offline as a way to download a backup copy of your Y!Groups photos. But bear in mind that if the problem is with Yahoo's servers then this software may not be able to access them either.

Can someone help?
Some Y!GMF and YGOG members have reported success by contacting Yahoo Customer Care through Twitter and/or Facebook to request that their groups' Photos section be restored.

On the Groups.io side of things, I doubt there's anything that [email protected] can do about the situation.

Re: No pictures [transferred from a Yahoo group]

I have previously reported the same problem of no images being transferred.
There has been no acknowledgement of this problem by either GMF members or IO support.
