Yes. Instructions are available here:?

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts

Last I heard, it was still possible to accidentally delete the last group Owner via an account merge. So make absolutely sure that both accounts own the group before attempting this.?

I understand the general steps for merging but how does this impact each account, and is it important to merge from old to new or new to old, in order to keep the original start date and connection to the old posts?

Yes, it is important. I suggest you merge the new account into the old one. To do so, you will need to first log in under the new account and have email access to the old one.? After the merge, what you are calling your "new account" will no longer exist.

If you subsequently want to change the email address on the remaining account back to the newer one, that is easily done, using the instructions found on the "Changing your email address" section of same wiki page linked above.

In either event you should not lose any ownership of group content that you had before.

I don't want to lose my new profile information and photo -- do I have to copy those over to the old account first?

Yes. Profile information is most easily accessed from?/account?page=viewprofile

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

Re: How to allow editing but not deleting

J White

I recently had a new member go back and delete every message she had posted, which took every reply members wrote. It was a little shocking. I felt the threads were valuable, especially to all the new members. I contacted her privately, and she said she felt shame and feared her questions were too simple for the level of experience in the group, even though she had received many good replies. I asked her not to do that again, since her questions were undoubtedly wondered by others new to the industry, and also because many people had spent time providing helpful answers. People are not going to bother responding to questions if they are simply deleted.

Then I immediately changed the settings so that no members could edit or delete their own posts. Just too easy to do for some people!

I decided that if a group member really wants to make edits to their message, they can contact me privately and ask me, as Owner, to do it for them. They can send me what to copy/paste onto the message. I don't think it'll happen too often.

Account Merge for Group Owner #groupowner #merge

J White

I am my group's Owner & only Moderator. When I started my Groups.io account with the intention of migrating a long-standing Yahoo group, I opened the account & created my profile using a different/new email address. When the Yahoo files were transferred over, so was my old account, with former address. I did not realize that a merge feature was available, so I kept the old one as "test account".? I realized to my chagrin that my old account which was start-dated in 2006 (it was actually 2005) is associated with years of my posts and my new account (start-dated 2019) was not linked to those old posts. As an educator in my field, many new people want to search my posts, and cannot do that through the new account that serves as my main Profile. Subsequently, they contact me privately and then I have to direct them to the old account. It's cumbersome and time-consuming. I feel silly for not figuring this out earlier.

What do I do at this point? Can I merge the accounts, as Owner? Both accounts are tagged as "Owner".

I understand the general steps for merging but how does this impact each account, and is it important to merge from old to new or new to old, in order to keep the original start date and connection to the old posts?

I don't want to lose my new profile information and photo-- do I have to copy those over to the old account first?

Thanks for any ideas.

Is anyone else posting? Are their posts being sent out as emails just fine, and only this one person's posts are not?

I just looked and the subject doesn't have a # in front of it. (Subject shown Below)
?
The only place hashtags are being used is in the?guideline email and calendar which is automatically hashtagged.?
?
If?messages sent from her phone isn't the problem, something else is?definitely going on because there aren't any
hashtags being used when she writes her email.
?
The problem started when she was having problems with her computer and started to send messages from her phone.
Prior to that her mail was reaching my email and other members of the groups email.
?
Could it be an AOL issue?

What you can do is look at the messages as they appear in the group's
Messages. If the Subject contains a word beginning with # then that is
the likely cause.
?
As Duane said earlier, display on the web site but no distribution by
email is exactly what the No Email option to a hashtag will do.
?
As a member, you can't tell what options a hashtag might carry, but you
certainly can see if the subject of a message has one or more hashtags.
?
? > Could it be she is sending messages from her phone?

No.
?
It wouldn't even be because it was posted by email rather than on the
web site. Messages are processed alike regardless of how they originate.

Re: Reply-to set to a different sub-group? #howto

Doranna,

This is something I can do, but I don't quite see how it would stop
people from responding to the original message if they weren't paying
enough attention.
In the announcements subgroup you can check the "Announcement Group" box in the Spam Control section of its Settings page. That blocks all member messages from that (sub)group.

Or, you can use a hashtag in the Subject of all announcement messages, and, in the announcement subgroup only, give that hashtag the "Locked" checkbox. That will prevent replies to the announcement but not other messages from members.

Re: Reply-to set to a different sub-group? #howto

Doranna,

In that case, is it possible for rejected responses to
receive an auto-reply?
Not exactly, but...

In the Member Notices tab of your (sub)group's Settings page you may create one or more notices of type "Rejected Message".

When rejecting via the web there is a drop-list to select which of those (if any) you'd like to copy into the rejection you're about to send. You can edit it further before sending (that won't alter the stored version).

When rejecting via email the one "Rejected Message" notice marked "Active" will be sent.

Thanks for that out-of-the-box thinking!??

This is something I can do, but I don't quite see how it would stop people from responding to the original message if they weren't paying enough attention.? Maybe I'm missing something???

It's perhaps useful to explain that the 1st group is meant to be announcement-only for a modest group of professionals, all of whom are required to receive these mailings.? The discussion takes place on the 2nd (optional) group where the less active don't partake.

The first group is moderated, but currently anyone can post to it with official business.? It may be that we have to winnow that access down to a sacred few so such "oops, I did it again" responses are simply rejected.? In that case, is it possible for rejected responses to receive an auto-reply?

(I tried to look that up, too, but my brain had started spinning by then.)

But you already said this:

Do the missing posts contain a hashtag that has the No Email property? No

That being the case, I have no idea what's happening.

Good luck,

How about per month?? You can see that on the homepage of your group, toward the bottom, in the Message History area.

With a bit more work, you could find them for any time span by using the Custom Range on the Search tool.? For example, on this group, all the posts on September 16 can be found using
/g/GroupManagersForum/search?d=6&ct=1&ev=&startdate=09%2F16%2F2019&enddate=09%2F16%2F2019 (and leaving the Search box empty.)

counting posts

Good morning,

Is there a place or chart that shows how many posts in a day?
Or even in a year?

I'm looking to compare one year to another and one day to another to calculate the most active days for my group.
Thank you!
