The messages in my groups are datestamped, but not Timestamped...why?
Dear all.
I don't understand why messages are not timestamped by default, or if you can even have that function at all. Clearly the email I recieve in my inbox is timestamped, but not on the website, and as a group manager, that's where I do all my work. I note that the messages are numbered, which is of no use to me. I need the time they were posted. Is there a way to switch this on? Kind regards Simon |
Re: Max invites?
Frances, Amanda, you don't say if you have a basic (free) account or not.? It wouldn't matter. The same rule applies to Premium groups, for both Invite and Direct Add. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Max invites?
Francis, I'm believe your message might be a little misleading. It's the or for people, Are free, wall groups are paid for and can be said at the premium level.

Max invites?
Amanda M Newkirk
Hello, we just tried to invite our list to join our group and received the message we had reached the max number of invites for the day and it had to be approved.? I didn't realize there was a limit, and our list was rather small (less than 100). Did I do something incorrectly or is there, in fact, approval needed??

Re: Subscribe messages to owner's address going to some members
Trista,
?
Ok, I've just sent the message again - third time lucky maybe... Still nothing (neither Inbox nor Spam). I've sent you a message off list. If you make a simple reply to that and I receive it we can work from there. Maybe there's just a delay somewhere.
I have attached a screenshot of the messages on the group and a text only file with copies of the raw messages. Might this be a problem? I can't think of any reason it should be. I've received attachments of various sizes and types without problem before.
Apologies if you now receive the same thing in triplicate... No worries.

Re: Subscribe messages to owner's address going to some members
Trista,
?
Shal did you receive the raw messages I tried to send you off-list? I have not.
?
I'm not sure whether the above messages here are meant to be relevant to me or not, ... Just an independent test of the +owner address in another group: all messages went where they ought (to owners/mods and not the group). The part about Gmail was an aside that isn't relevant to you.

I'm not sure whether the above messages here are meant to be relevant to me or not, but the messages I am talking about were sent only to the owner's address, and went to the group. I don't have a gmail address and I don't think gmail is involved in any way in my situation. Trista |
Re: Subscribe messages to owner's address going to some members
Gerald, Although the OWNER and MOD email addresses are different, they both end up going to one GMAIL account. I think that GMAIL is intentionally only delivering one copy. That's correct. It is an aspect of Gmail, of which I'm not very fond, that if you receive multiple messages with the same Message-ID field Gmail will only put one in your Inbox. Similarly, if you have a message in your Sent folder and receive some more with the same Message-ID Gmail puts none of the received ones in your Inbox. Re: Subscribe messages to owner's address going to some members
Gerald Boutin
I tried the same test and although I had the Owner and a Moderator account listening for +owner emails, I only received one email via the owner's email address. Note that both the owner and moderator accounts are both my accounts. The message was NOT sent to the group.
Although the OWNER and MOD email addresses are different, they both end up going to one GMAIL account. I think that GMAIL is intentionally only delivering one copy. To test this, I repeated the test after adding another of my email accounts as another MOD listening to +owner messages. This account also ends up on GMAIL, but at a different GMAIL address. As expected, no message was sent to the group and I received one message in each of my gmail accounts. So, from here it seems all is working as expected. -- Gerald |
Re: Subscribe messages to owner's address going to some members
Trista,
?
The plot has now thickened. I just sent a test message to the +owner address and it went to the group. ?
That's surprising. Does it appear on the group's Messages page?
?
?
How do I send to you off-list? ?
In GMF's Messages section click the Reply link under this message. Then, over to the right and below the text box click the silver Private button. That will change the green "Reply to Group" button to a blue "Reply to Sender" button. If you want to keep a copy of what you sent, chek the BCC Me box.
?
By email, copy my address in the From field, then paste it into the To field of the message you send. How you do that will depend on the email interface you're using.

Re: Subscribe messages to owner's address going to some members
Thank you very much Shal.
The plot has now thickened. I just sent a test message to the +owner address and it went to the group. I only got one copy, so it didn't come to the owner's address as well, and I definitely did not send it to the group address. The same seems to have happened to my co-moderator earlier today. I can send you the raw version of my message to the owner as received via the group, but so far I haven't managed to access the raw version via my sent box... How do I send to you off-list? Thanks again for your help! Trista |

Trista,
A couple of members of one of my groups have contacted me saying theyThat's very odd. Unless you've promoted those members to the role of Moderator they should not be receiving either "Subscription Approval Needed" notices nor replies to the Pending Subscription notice sent to applicants. The first time this happened seems to have been after I turned off myIt isn't relevant to Groups.io, but maybe if someone got impatient with a perceived lack of response from you they could have CC'd or forwarded those messages to other group members (if they knew some email addresses). I have a copy of the raw header for one of the messages received by aThere are people here in GMF who can help you with that (myself included), but it isn't advisable to post the raw headers to the group as they likely contain personal identifiers (full names, email and IP addresses) that shouldn't be posted in public. You could post a redacted copy, or send it to me off-list if you want help with that. Subscribe messages to owner's address going to some members
A couple of members of one of my groups have contacted me saying they are receiving subscribe messages, and some of the responses to them. The first time this happened seems to have been after I turned off my own reception of these messages via the owner's address when I went on holiday, but whether that's relevant or not I don't know. I can't think why it would be, but I've turned them off and on again to see if it makes any difference...
I have a copy of the raw header for one of the messages received by a member, but I don't really have the skills to read it. Can anyone help? |

Yes adding fields to the member list would be awesome, even having some fixed contact fields would make a huge difference; address/primary phone
