Saving Private Messages (was: Vanishing email)

I am incredulous that groups.io does not save any PMs.Alex -- Unlike Yahoo and some others, you create an account here via an already-existing email address; your personal inbox/outbox resides there. To provide private email service would increase server load and storage costs, and the current funding approach might become unsustainable. Perhaps that will change when the groups.io app is rolled out...at that point such private messages could be stored on your own device.? I'm pretty sure the only private messages currently retained are invitations/direct add notices (via the activity log) and +owner messages (via the corresponding button on the subscriber's page). And an argument could be made that such messages are not really "private," inasmuch as they are accessible to all Moderators, and individuals can be rotated in and out of those positions. Re: Vanishing email
<p>I do this all the time. Sometimes I can't spell check for what ever reason on a website etc so I keep jarte or text edit open and I type my master piece, polish it, buff it and sand it for the final touch. Lol! Anyway, I've ben doing this for the longest time as I've also had stuff just disappear.</p>

Re: Vanishing email
Thanks, Bruce; good to hear from you; I figured you'd jump right in. :^)? I did look for a draft. No joy. |
Re: Vanishing email
Early on at groups.io I had a couple of long messages disappear.
The experience taught me to compose them off line, e.g. notpad or Word or? equivalent and to then copy/paste to groups.io. I? have cured that problem btw? this seems to happen with other online editors occasionally? also -- Bob Bellizzi |

So the first thing to do is check the left-side menu bar for a message Draft. If present, you should be able to reopen that draft and send it. If not, I don't know. I have noticed that the Discard button is directly adjacent to the Send to Members button. A good suggestion for improvement would be to move them to opposite sides of the screen. Why can't I see any of my moderator messages to individuals? Only via bcc's?Generally speaking groups.io does not save any private messages.? Re: Markdown is not rendered online
#markdown
Hi Shal,
Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, I disabled html email in my group, as I only want plain text emails. Yes, email clients can be configured to display markdown plain text emails as rendered in html. The issue that I am raising is that I would like the groups.io web interface to also render such markdown plain text emails properly. I will ask at beta. Thanks, Ondrej |
Re: Markdown is not rendered online
#markdown
Ond?ej,
?
But if I create a new message by sending an email, the markdown is not properly rendered (example). ?
I don't think so, not in general. There is a hint of maybe if you use the right email client in Mark's reply to my message, , so many years ago. Also there was this request (). Those topics are locked now, but you could always bring it up again in beta.
?
There's also , which handles the conversion from markdown to HTML before you send the message, basically the same thing the Groups Web Poster does. I don't know if it has kept up with the changes in how Firefox/Thunderbird plugins work though.

Markdown is not rendered online
#markdown
Hi, I am new to groups.io. When I create a new message online, the markdown is properly rendered (example). But if I create a new message by sending an email, the markdown is not properly rendered (example). Is there a way to enable markdown to always render, no matter if the message was created online or from an email? Thanks, Ondrej |
Re: moderating Member Posts to Calendar
#calendar
councilconsulting, When members add events to calendar, is it subject to the same moderation settings as forum posts? No. The only control over member's use of the calendar is the overall calendar permission, Subscribers can view, or Subscribers can view and edit. Re: Subgroups
#subgroups
councilconsulting, I have one top level group.? I'm considering making some subgroups.? Will creation of subgroups change anything about the top level group, eg group email address, administrator email address... It will change both the group's email addresses (listed on the home page) and web address. However the original email address and web address will continue to work for the primary group. moderating Member Posts to Calendar
#calendar
When members add events to calendar, is it subject to the same moderation settings as forum posts?
(I'm a bit nervous of testing due to this morning's problem with calendar notifications that I? put in a separate post)\ Thanks |
Subgroups
#subgroups
I have one top level group.? I'm considering making some subgroups.? Will creation of subgroups change anything about the top level group, eg group email address, administrator email address... I remember something like this came up when I was first setting up a test group.
Thanks. |
Delete event sends CANCELLED EVENT notification to group
#calendar
#cal-notice
I just experimented with the calendar, don't know how, but through editing an event a couple of times I ended up with duplicate events.? So I deleted 2 of the 3 duplicates (Edit, Delete). ? This caused a "Cancelled Event" notice to go to all members.? I am CERTAIN that I clicked? "update event" and NOT "update event and group"? for both entries.
A Cancelled event notice went out to the whole group for each of the 2 deletions. (I also had a problem with the times not saving when I saved the event prior to this, that's why I kept going into the event, fixing the time and saving (update event), which seems to have caused the duplicates - 2 with the wrong times, one with the right time). I'm now very nervous about testing the calendar as I DO NOT want calendar notifications going out at all yet. Is this a bug? any thoughts? Tahnks |
Re: Downloading A Group Wiki
One thing to consider is that once you do download the wiki, your downloaded version is frozen forever and doesn't contain any later changes additions or updates.? In other words it's similar to a dead language and very likely to mislead you when you most need it.

Re: Moderator Changing Subscriber's Display Name
Chris, Assuming that you did, then it is you we have to thank for getting the matter resolved as per Updates received this morning (UK time) I did, but I've no reason to suppose that I was the only one, or even the first. A highly satisfactory outcome. :) ? Indeed. Though my particular case (incorrect log entry) remains a bit of a mystery. Mark thinks my reported action should have made no entry at all, and I'm fairly certain that what I reported is exactly what I did. However that may be, a test last night gave the correct result in the logs, so it seems that's "case closed". Until it isn't. In my experience little niggling discrepancies like that (between actual result and what the diagnosis says should have happened)? hint at something deeper lurking around to bite you later. But not always, so we'll see. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
