Re: how to undo accidental merge

Marina, I've been able to split out a message in the middle of a topic using just those same steps that Brian mentioned.

Granted the Merge portion of the sequence is a bit less than intuitive but it starts making more sense after you've practiced doing it a few times. Don't worry, you'll figure it out!

Marina,

? ? ? ? ? I have never worked with forums software (and that's the side we're talking about here) that has an UNDO function.? ?But what I do work with routinely is software that allows you to split a single message or selected group of messages out of a topic from anywhere in that topic other than the first message [in which case you just split off messages 2 through the end].

? ? ? ? ? I am almost positive that this ability has been asked for on the beta group in the past.? It might make sense to bring it up again.? That or send the request to [email protected].

Re: Deleting photo storage

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Another question about deleting photos.. ?I¡¯ve just deleted close to 100 and found that each time I opened a photo to delete it, the NEXT one opened instead, and I have to click the white Back arrow to get to the correct one. It is bad enough to have to do them one at a time, but having to click again to get the right one, is a real pain.

Any way to stop this and have the right photo open up straight away?

I really detest those Incredimail animations which get saved !!

Cheers

One by one, I'm afraid. I don't think anything has come of various requests for a bulk way to handle them.

I think those can be kept under control by selecting "Delete Old Attachments" in the "Out of Space" control in the Message Policies section of your group's Settings page.

?

Of course, that will affect file attachments as well as photos.

Calendar - notification of cancellations

Carmel Palanos

Hello all,

I am setting up our group's calendar for the coming school year. I have been setting up the dates without notifying the group, as I have several classes to enter and don't want to be spamming everyone - I will just send out one notice so that people go look at at the calendar when it's all organized.?

In order to enter classes that repeat throughout the year (every Friday, for example), I have just given it the date range (for example, Aug 30 2019 through April 15 2020). However, in order to account for holidays during that period, I then have to go back through the calendar and cancel the dates that classes won't occur due to holidays (eg, Dec 20 2019, Dec 27 2019).

BUT - when I do this, the cancellation notice gets sent out to the entire group, causing mass confusion and panic! How can I do these cancellations without notifying the group? I can't seem to find a setting that allows this.

Any help would be appreciated, whether it's for cancelling without general notification, or a way to set up the year's worth of dates by picking and choosing at date entry.

Selected photos disabled.
This way no one can see them and?they don't have to be deleted.??
You can also have the setting to where the owner and mods are the only people who can see the photos. Leeni

I've been searching all over and can't find an answer to my question....how do I delete all of the photos that have been stored in the photos section? They're ones that get uploaded automatically from members' emails sent to the group. I have well over 11,000 of them and I do NOT want to have to go through them one by one to delete.

Thanks for any help!!

Thank you, Brian.
Unfortunately, the process is a bit tortuous. I have tried to follow your auggestions but it ended up in a mess :-(( (my fault not yours)
The easiest thing, I guess, is to delete the wrongly merged message and ask the sender to send it again.
I wish there were an "undo action" tab in Groups.io, though.

Have a nice day,
Marina

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

Last week's change log (oops!):

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

CHANGE: Tweaked wording of FBL unsub email.
Thanks, Ken Schweizer.
/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/31349886

NEW: We now will resize HEIC images based on group settings
(previously we were unable to resize them, so passed them through
untouched).
Hmm... I don't know that I've encountered any High Efficiency Image Files yet. Time will tell whether it will topple JPG from the most-used list.

CHANGE: Changed the application fee for donations from 20% to 5%.
That should be more acceptable to most groups.

Comments about these are welcome:

SYSADMIN: Work to mitigate new Intel ZombieLoad exploit.
BUGFIX: In the API endpoint /updategroup, if there was an error, it
was returned along with the group object, resulting in an
unparseable mess.
BUGFIX: The subgroup direct add email didn't parse HTML direct add
messages correctly, so the HTML was visible in the email.
BUGFIX: Found and fixed a memory leak in the webserver.
SYSADMIN: Added a new web server and retired final web server running
CentOS 6.

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: having trouble with invite message

Larry,

Want to customize an invite message to new members, but it seems to
include the default message aswell.
What Duane said.

But you can use formatting to draw attention to your message, rather than the default text.

I need to start over with my default invite message...it seems to be
repetitive. Help!

You can only add to the default message, not delete any of it.

Re: Test Groups

Marcio,

Looking briefly in the group I saw what I'll call a Wordpress
integration, showing a few posts of a blog. I don't know where to look
to know how it's done so if I may ask, how it can be done?
It is an iframe element that I pasted into the Source Code view of the Description edit box. I think that iframe code was copied from somewhere on Wordpress, equivalent to Groups.io's Promote page, where they give you sample code to paste into other web pages. I'm a bit vague on this because I did it a long time ago, and a coworker of mine gave me the code (he admins the Wordpress blog).

In retrospect I'm a bit surprised that worked. I thought iframes were among the things that get stripped by the editor. But maybe not for Descriptions, or maybe not back when I did that.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Shal,
no content there is "sacred". If an experiment destroys the content, or even the whole group, no real harm done. If necessary, I'll just create ShalsTest2.
It's really good to know it. for now, I'm being just a beholder. But it's indeed nice to know that we could experiment with "no real harm done". Although this is a test group, I was a bit afraid of doing something wrong, if I ever need to test something.

If the owner/moderator has set the hashtags to Special, they can't be muted.? You might ask them why they've set them this way, if that's what has happened.

Be careful marking things as junk.? On some email services that equates to marking them as spam and could get you unsubscribed.? I don't believe it applies within some clients, such as Thunderbird, but is not a good habit to get into.

The only difference is what you call it and what you use it for; a Test Group is simply a Group set up - almost certainly with only a handful of members - with the purpose of "playing" with Groups.io's capabilities to investigate how things work and sometimes don't. A group set up for test purposes has exactly the same functionality as a "working" group. It is somewhere its members can try things without disrupting a working group, usually so that whatever is learnt / discovered can be used for the better running of a proper group.

I hope that makes sense...

Why do Mute not work. #cal-reminder #cal-notice

OH6NT

I am a subscriber on another list where meetings etc. are regularly noted in the calendar.
I'm NOT a manager of that list. I don't want those messages; I live too far away from the "HQ"
I have muted #cal-notice and #cal-reminder on that list, but the messages keep coming.
Why, and what can I do about it as a subscriber? As per now, they are considered junk in my mail client...
