Re: Send Invite To Group (tagged with #cal-invite) needs to default to unchecked

Mark has reverted the change!? ? I think maybe the most recent complaint made it clear that it would be better this way.

No, this is a site setting.? There was some discussion on minimizing the problem a few days ago, here and on the beta group - /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/30510184 and

Calendar Default Option #cal-notice

Hi,,

I see there was a recent change - CHANGE: When adding/editing an event, check by default the 'Send Invite To Group' option.

Is there anyway to turn off this default at a group level?? I have inadvertently sent out two notices that were not ready to go out, which is now confusing my group.

Thanks
Charles

Re: An email I got from a groups.io owner

Termi,

However I have had a couple of people tell me that IO is closing groups
and not even notifying the group owner that they are doing it.

Maybe , or a adult content groups. Neither of which is allowed, and both of which ought to be obvious to the group owner why it was closed.

The group owner could contact [email protected] to find out what happened, if it isn't obvious. A group owner ought to at least skim the Terms of Service, even if the members don't bother.

Re: Can linked attachments have their original names?

Looks like a bug to me. It's because Groups.io has put those numbers in place
of the file name on the end of the URL. I suggest reporting it to
[email protected]

/g/zalang/attachment/64461/2

When I click a link, my browser prompts me to save the file with the
name "0", "1" or "2", instead of the attachments' actual names. This is
a bit annoying for me personally, but I can imagine it must be
frustrating for non-geek users who don't know about file extensions,
since file "0" etc. won't show up as a PDF file on their Desktop.

What can be done about this, and/or what causes it?

I use Thunderbird and Opera. Copy/pasting the link in the browser
doesn't change this behaviour.

When I visit the actual message, then I can download the attachments
using their actual names by clicking on the attachment icons, so that's
one workaround, I suppose.

Thanks

There's definitely a bug.? I was able to send a message with a non-existent hashtag to a group.? It showed up and was added to the hashtag list instead of bouncing.? Hopefully, Ullman has reported it and it will get fixed soon.

IIRC you are right, and I cannot find it either. However, on the group I moderate I can create a hashtag, on this one I can't so I think the function has been rolled into the drop down as you suggested.

Sounds like a bug to me.? You should report it to [email protected]? Are you sure that you've deleted all the 'incorrect' hashtags?? It seems like there was a distinct choice for "Only Moderators Can Create Hashtags" at one time, but I can't find it now.? Possibly the drop down replaced it.

Try a different Setting: Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, new hashtags will be removed. Will that meet your requirements? It's rather less brutal than bouncing messages with attempts to create new hashtags.

We have set?Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, otherwise the message is bounced."?

Is this correct?
No, one of the options on the Settings page, under Message Policies, is Hashtag Permissions.? Setting that to "Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, otherwise the message is bounced." will enforce using only hashtags that have been predefined by a mod/owner.? You could also choose "Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, new hashtags will be removed.", but that probably isn't what you want.

Mark has already fixed the problem...

I've made the following change: we now remember which 'home page' you were last on, whether that's the Feed page, the Groups page, or the Topics page,
and we return to that page the next time you go to??(or click on the logo).

No it doesn't. One or two have suggested a Set Group Default function but we aren't holding our breath...

Or does everyone have the ability to set their order independently?
Yes they do. For groups where the "sort by title / name" had been used to advantage in organising the sequence of Albums and Photos the ongoing usability of Photos depends on all Subscribers setting their own defaults correctly. Bit ambitious that, IMHO. In some respects it's not the ability but the necessity to set the sort order. :(

Re: Photos

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Can someone answer this question please. As an owner of a group does my action of setting the order of how I view albums and pictures decide how the members see them too. Or does everyone have the ability to set their order independently?

?

Homepage display

I think the recent change to display the Feed page when logged in has also changed the default when accessing a particular group via <groupname>.groups.io - it sends the page to groups.io when not logged in, or the feed page when logged in. This means that for a new (not yet approved) member, the groups.io page or the feed page (if logged in) will show up instead of the <groupname> homepage if they enter the url <groupname>.groups.io. To get around this problem, the new potential member has to enter <groupname>.groups.io/g/main or groups.io/g/<groupname> to get to the correct homepage for that particular group in order to apply for membership.

I remember that we used to be able to access a group's homepage simply by typing in <groupname>.groups.io. For current members, it's not too much a problem, but for a potential member, they have no way to access the group's homepage unless they type the correct url (<groupname>.groups.io/g/main or groups.io/g/<groupname>).? Is this considered a bug to be reported?

Thank you.
Lily
