Re: Welcome welcome message: is it automatically sent when people join
Randi Welcome message: is it automatically sent to people when they join? Yes, if you made one Active in the Member Notifications tab of your group's Settings page. Also, How do you phrase the instructions that you give to people to get to the wiki? I noticed that it is available from some point but not others. Assuming you mean your own group's Wiki, members should see it in the list of pages in the left column while visiting your group. If they don't they may not be logged in. Or you may not have set the Wiki's Permissions to allow members to view it, in the Features section of your group's Settings page. If you mean GMF's wiki pretty much the same answer, but they would need to be visiting GMF's pages. Note that GMF's wiki is public, meaning that one needn't be logged in to see it. That's not the normal setting for most groups. If somebody joins with an ?email address that has their name, it will show, correctly? So if they if their email address has their name on it they need to join with a different address, correct? Eh? Groups.io's web pages will normally show the member's Display Name, not their email address. They can edit their display name via the Identity page of their Account (to change all of their group subscriptions, or any one or more of them); or they can change it through the Group Profile tab on their Subscription page in your group. The initial value for their Display Name may be taken from the display name portion of their first email to Groups.io, if they haven't set one explicitly through the web interface. If that doesn't address your question then... what's your question? I asked this before but I may have missed the message. How do I unmoderate myself? ? Shal responded at length in this message. I have a suspicion that you are using email access only rather than the web UI which makes missing wanted emails so much easier. Re: People subscribing but unable to post.
Judy,
Do all invitees have this problem, or just a few? I think you may need more detail from your invitees. Specifically the exact text of the error message being reported by their email service. But here are some other ways to check it out: One possibility is that they are posting to an address that isn't even Groups.io. A version of this is that they're getting that much right but have a typo or other problem in the group name. To diagnose this, ask them to post again but CC you so that you can inspect the To address in their message. Another possibility is that they didn't actually accept the invitation, and they're getting back a "not a member" error from Groups.io. In this case the Invitation page should show them as "sent" but not "accepted". Or they did accept the invitation, but are sending from a different address. This case you can diagnose by looking at your group's Activity logs. Attempted postings by non-members should be logged there. This is assuming you have not elected to allow non-subscribers to post. But subscribers say they get an e-mail back saying ¡°incorrect address.¡±Given that the email must say something more than "incorrect address" it would be very helpful if you could forward a complete copy of the email rather than just two words. Who is the originator of the returned email? Is it Groups.io or some other organisation? Is it all subscribers or just some of them? Also have a look at your Activity Log to see what is reported there. Are (some) subscribers trying to post from email addresses that are not those affiliated to their Accounts? Chris |

Re: #bug Export data email has non-usable URL

Henning, The zip file URL returned in the export data email message is not usable, at least if received via gmail. I had to decode the raw plain text version via the 'quoted-printable' translator. ? I used this feature about a week ago and didn't have a problem, but I probably opened the message in Thunderbird, not Gmail's web UI. I'll go take a look at it after work today, but any additional detail you can provide may be helpful. Note: GMF is a user-to-user forum, no one from Groups.io monitors messages here. If you wish to post a bug report to Groups.io you must use the [email protected] address. Time delay on invitations from file
Claire PT
My group is ready to invite all the members from our old platform, so I submitted a .txt file with the emails (about 230 in total). I received an email from Groups.io saying it had been approved and the invites sent, but so far no one has received them. Is there usually a time lag?

Re: suddenly many yahoo.com members are bouncing, but not all of them
Anne, As of today, I have 216 members soft bouncing, all of them with email addresses. To borrow and misquote from Disney: ? Let 'em Go Assuming that the Reason given is
This mailbox is disabled (554.30) as mentioned in earlier posts in this topic, those addresses are most likely dead. It may be possible for the owner of such an email address to recover their account once Yahoo has disabled it; that would be the only circumstance under which the address would stop bouncing. My guess is that most of these would be addresses transferred in from a Yahoo Group, and were probably abandoned (but not unsubscribed), possibly even before the transfer. Re: suddenly many yahoo.com members are bouncing, but not all of them
As of today, I have 216 members soft bouncing, all of them with yahoo.com email addresses.? This is on my largest group, with about 6700 members. Likewise, on a group of about 600, I have 31 members bouncing.? Of the half who are soft bouncing, all are Yahoo.com members.??

Charlie,
Hopefully you will revisit this in the future.GMF is a user-to-user community, no one here from Groups.io. If you'd like to see it revisited post that in Groups.io's "suggestion box", the beta group: Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
