Re: PDF files as attachements

You should be able to attach any type of file, with the possible exception of exe or other executables.? When reading online, there will be a link for it.? We're not sure exactly where it is stored and there doesn't seem to be another way to get to them.

Is it possible to have a pdf file as an attachment to a message to a group? If so, where can it be found please?

Go to Admin>Settings and click the "Member Notices" button at the top of the page. Create a new notice of type Welcome and make it Active.

See?/static/help#membernotices?

Hope this helps,

As best I can tell, if the attachment is sent via the web interface, they are converted to underscores. If sent via email, the hyphens are retained.

I guess I'll just have to keep watching for it and renaming them when necessary.
I will report this to support as a bug, but you may have to continue doing the above as a workaround for awhile.

This means that groups.io will try again later.? At some point, the invitation will either be delivered or rejected by the email service at the other end.

It isn't even consistent within a group. See recent?GMF message #15445, in which the hyphens in the attached filename seem to have come through intact.

Hello,

I run a couple of groups for baseball leagues, using APBA's Baseball for Windows. When people attach files, apparently some (though not all?) are getting renamed in a way that makes the software not recognize them as BBW files. The file names are in the format "C-[name].LPF" and "F-[name].LPF". The problem appears to be that the dash after the C or F is getting turned into an underscore ("_"), and this causes the software to ignore that when I try to load Commissioner or Franchise files. If I catch it when I save the attached files, I can rename them to the right format, but if I don't, I may think that someone has failed to send me a file at all. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Thanks,
Mike

Finally, we come?to something more directly related to your issue. This message is being posted using the web UI. The online File upload UI does convert the hyphen to an underscore, but only in the UI. The file is saved with the correct hyphen character in it. At least it did when I first tried this as a test. This graphic file showing the behavior in a previous test should be named?Hyphen-Test.jpg.
Mike,

On further review,?it seems that I have reproduced what you have noticed. It has been pointed out to me that this time, the file shows up in the GMF group with the hyphen changed to an underscore. I don't get emails from this group, so I don't know how the filename appears in an email client.

So, I have to agree that it sometimes does change the character from a hyphen to an underscore, although I don't know why the same jpg file worked OK in another group and not in this case.

Re: On website page, allow customization of number of rows #suggestion

Actually, you have the options of 20, 50, 100, or infinite scroll.? (Infinite Scroll doesn't work on all items/pages, such as a Database.)? Go to your Account by clicking on your name at the upper right, then select the Preferences page.? The setting is near the bottom of the page.

BTW, this is a user-to-user group.? Suggestions should be made on the beta group.

I learned about the polling issue in a different thread. ;-)? Having learned about that, rather than waiting for a poll I have verified this by both forcing updates from a confluence subscription and also from deleting the subscription and re-subscribing via g-cal.

You may just have to get into the habit of deleting cancelled events instead of using the GIO "cancel" function, in concert with a manual notification. The option also exists to edit the event description to anything you feel would provide adequate notification that it isn't going to occur.
I am in the habit of deleting event. Let's just say that my repeated attempts at educating my large audience to also following that practice hasn't yielded much result when they are looking at a big fat "Cancel" button. :-(

Re: Attachments on calendar invites

Hi Duane,

that could be it.? In the message composition area when creating a calendar event there is no option to insert an image or attach a file.

I've looked at that Trello board before but everything I've looked at seemed to have 2015 & 2016 dates.? I figured it's not used anymore.

Andy

On website page, allow customization of number of rows #suggestion

For Messages and Members, it's laborious to page through screens.? It
would help if there was some customization of the number of visible rows.

The existing build allows 20 rows (see attached screenshot). With the
Web 2.0 habit of scrolling, I suggest you permit a user to specify a
larger number of rows to display.

Just as an aside, I've been very pleased with the smooth transition from
Yahoo Groups to Groups.io.? Judging by the number of questions from our
users - barely any - this was far more seamless than I expected.

Re: Is the Calendar public to the entire group?

Hi

In Settings, scroll down to Features, Calendar.
Check that subscribers can view. ?Pick Subscribers can view, moderators can edit.

If you wish them to edit as well, check that one - subscribers can view and edit.

Is the Calendar public to the entire group?

I ask because my members keep telling me their birthdays aren't on there even though I put them on and I c an see them all.? Are they crazy or am I?

Thanks, we're new here and we love it.

It seems obvious that GIO is not changing it, so this must be happening with their email client. Have those who are experiencing this problem check their client settings to see if there is something that would affect it. If they aren't savvy enough to do so, let us know what client/OS they are using and maybe we can look it up.
Hope this helps,

Is it possible that the original file names are using an n-dash or m-dash typographical character instead of a hyphen? This might cause a problem depending on whether the message is sent as plain text versus HTML.
