Files section questions
Under previous ownership and when it was in Yahoo!Groups, some members posted their photos in the Files section. Of course, when we transferred to Groups.io, those stayed in the same place. I have made sure that the settings are such that that does not happen any longer. Is there any way to move those Files folders or their contents to the Photos section, or even the appropriate folder within the Photos section, and maintain the attribution to the original poster??
If a file or photo has no attribution shown, it is safe to say it was uploaded by a former member of the group? When we transferred almost a year ago, I noticed quite a few photos attributed to me (even to the point of one member asking me where I was when I shot a certain photo that I had never even seen before); now I can't seem to find any of those but there are quite a few with no attribution. I never checked the files section for the same phenomenon before today. I looked through the Wiki, the Help page and searched this forum, but only could find references to the size limits. I realize that moving the files to photos would not save any space under the allotment, but I'm just doing some housekeeping.? Dave |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, ? An account profile gives you the option to share details either publicly, to members of groups you are in, or to owners and moderators only. ?Where/how would any information entered here be shared? ? The directory would seem the logical place to do this but entries show a profile picture, a name and an Email button only. ? Thanks, Andy ? ? |
Re: Group email messages blocked by BT
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJohn Russell I have done that, and find that it reports emails were sent
successfully with no bounces. They did indeed arrive in the spam
folder, but you have to sign in on the web to access the spam
folder, and even then it does not jump out at you unless you know
where it is. What I can do and what group users can do may be two
different things. I used to set an autoresponder on my business email, and once tested it on my BT email. No reponse whatsoever, not even in spam as I remember. It sees fit to intercept a reply to a message you send. I regard BT Yahoo as particularly untrustworthy, but a lot of people have it. I am glad you have not experienced problems, that is encouraging. I will work on it and no doubt find a solution. Thank you for your help and advice, I am on a steep learning curve. John Clube

Re: Moderator permissions for specific group features
I agree with you, Bruce. The "all or nothing" if you up someone to Moderator is something that is problematic to my groups, as well. I end up NOT giving moderator privvies and continuing to do the work myself. Or, if something specific needs to be done for a short time, give Mod status to the particular person doing it and then taking them back to regular member. It would be great to allow individual features and functions to be fine-tuned. |
Re: Group email messages blocked by BT
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI also own and moderate a group with a few btinternet.com e-mail addresses in it. I have three of my own e-mail addresses registered to get a good view of the workings of the group, one of them a btinternet.com one, and have not seen any problems. Outside groups.io, I did have a problem where messages sent to my btinternet.com address about local refuse collection problems were being bounced by BT (i.e, complete rejection rather than delivery to Spam) because the subject line had both of the words "tax" and "refund" in them. The postmaster team at BT explained "the rejection is to protect our users from scam emails promising Tax Refunds, only Government domains are allowed this subject as they are the only ones who issue Tax Refunds. HMRC were the 3rd most scammed brand worldwide hence the block. It is just the Subject line which is affected, those with both TAX and REFUND." Perhaps not the problem underlying this thread, but worth bearing in mind - subject wording can have this effect. Regards, Tim Mitchell. On 09/01/2019 11:36, John Russell

Re: Group email messages blocked by BT
Hi John,
I am the owner and moderator of a group which is based on studying the history of a specific railway geographically based in the UK. Many of the members are also based in the UK. I just scanned through the member list and found that 217 out of 1505 have to various BT email addresses (BTInternet, BTConnect or BTOpenworld). We migrated to Groups.io last February and have sent out around 8,000 messages since then. I have not ever heard of any specifc problem affecting these BT addresses. So I would challenge your assumption that there is a general problem between BT addresses and Groups.io. You might want to add another BT email address from someone you know and have them run some tests and see if they have the same problem. Then you can narrow it down to something in your setup specifically. Before you test with another member, it would be worth checking if BT are sending any error messages back to Groups.io. All reputable email services provide this kind of feedback, but I wonder if BT fall into this category <smile>. Just click on "Subscription" in the left hand column, on the web version of Groups.io, and then click on the "Email Delivery History" tab. Tell use what you see there. You can try this both when you have the GroupManagersForum group open and when in your test group. This link will take you straight to the Email Delivery History in the GroupManagerForum :- /g/GroupManagersForum/subdeliveries If there are any messages coming back from BT email about the errors, then they will be listed there under "Most Recent Unsuccessful Attempt" or "Recent Bounces". Regards John Russell |

Re: Group email messages blocked by BT
Somebody with a yahoo-BT mailbox can test whether this helps.I hardly ever go the online mailbox, I use Outlook for emails but for the purposes of testing I've just set up this filter and will let you know if I see any difference in mail delivery. However I don't get a whole lot of spam at any time so my results may not prove or disprove anything. Sue |

Rather astonishing really, btoffering the user so little flexibility. Not that that necessarily reflects on what the interface it provides for BT though. When I get a chance I will enquire of members in the group I moderate to see if they can shed any light on the subject. Chris |

I have been trying to turn off the BT spam filter for years, and still cannot find out how to do it. I haven't a clue how to do it, but here's a suggestion based on figuring out how to turn off my RoadRunner/Spectrum spam filter. There's no explicit setting here to turn off my filter, but there are some selectable options for what to do with messages the filter determines to be spam. One of them is to sent it to the spam/junk folder and somewhat oddly another option is to send it to my inbox. The latter effectively "turns off" the filter. Maybe you have the same options? Jim H |
Re: Group email messages blocked by BT
Chris Thank you for going to so much trouble, especially when away from home. I have checked through it, but I am definitely with BT Yahoo, and no such screen layout or options appear. I have tried logging into the main BT account, the master email account and subsidiary email accounts. On the Yahoo version you can get into settings and get as far as filters, but there are no filters, and no option of turning off the spam filter. I have found lengthy discussions on how to turn off the spam filter (after you alerted me to the possibility) that seem to come to the conclusion that it cannot be done. I am unlikely to be alone in experiencing this problem. There is no way I can ask prospective BT Yahoo group members to address this, they will just ignore the group, and I need as many members as I can get. Thank you again, you have given me certainty that I did not have before, and I can spend the time looking at other avenues. This is a really helpful forum. Re: Group email messages blocked by BT
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýShal You are right, it goes to spam. I have BT Yahoo, which I realise is dreadful, so I have other email addresses for anything important. The target group members, however, are likely to have only one email address, and for many of them that will be BT. It may be that the spam filter can be disabled, but the group members are likely to be even more IT illiterate than me, and there is no question of asking them to do it. I would have to ask for their log-in details and do it for them, other than for the fact they would not know their log-in details. BT must have some sort of hole-in-the-head criteria for identifying spam. Is there some setting I could use to circumvent it? For example, could the group messages be set to send individual emails, not to one group email with blind copies? That would probably do it, but I do not see any option to specify that. I confirm that messages go to spam in all my BT accounts, in
spite of me telling it that previous messages from the same source
are not spam. For practical purposes, for my BT email addresses,
the group does not deliver. Although BT is incompetent, it is
unfortunately one of the largest ISPs in a country of 65 million
inhabitants. Thank you for explaining it, but my problem remains. I would be glad to work to help solve it if I can. I very much appreciate your reply John Clube On 08/01/2019 16:27, Shal Farley wrote:

Re: Group email messages blocked by BT
John,
?
... but sadly seems to result in all messages to BT addresses being blocked. There is no error message, the emails just disappear into the ether. The status of? the most recent messages sent to a given member can be found on the Email Delivery History tab of that member's page in the Members list. If any of the messages sent to that member were actually rejected ("bounced") by the member's email service then those should be listed in the Recent Bounces section of the page.
If the most recent message in the group shows in the Most Recent Successful Delivery section, but was not received by that member, then the member needs to look to his/her service provider for the answer - the provider accepted the message but may have delivered it to the member's Spam folder, or elsewhere, rather than his/her Inbox.
?
The member can find the same information for their own email deliveries on the Email Delivery History tab of their Subscription page, or in the Recent Bounces page of their Account.
In need a system that will succeed in delivering emails to people with a wide variety of email addresses. Is there some sort of special setting that would achieve that? No special settings required. Groups.io is designed to be as successful as possible with all email services. Mark Fletcher (Groups.io's developer) is very sensitive to deliverability issues. If there's a systemic delivery problem with a given email service he's usually on top of it.

It would be very helpful to know how you turn off the spam filter.Right; here goes, but this may not work with mail services actually provided by Yahoo: Log into your BT mail page; you cannot make the change via an email client. Look for the Settings Tab; mine has 2 gear wheels as part of it. Click on Settings. On the displayed page find the Mail Tab on the left hand side. Click on Mail. Scroll down the page for the box titled Spam Settings for POP Users. Click on Switch off Spam Filtering and Select identify potential spam with prefix [Spam] The screenshot below may help a bit. What happens if you are using something other than POP is something I cannot comment upon. Log out and revert to using your email client, if applicable. The eagle - eyed will spot that I am using a data dongle connected to a laptop; I am away from my home location. :( Chris |

This suggests to me that your subscriber simply clicked the wrong button in the dialog box ("report" instead of "cancel"). Assuming the subscriber clicked the wrong button... false reports from this cause probably could be prevented by requiring a reason be given... check for at least 10 characters as a reason and don't accept the report until one is given. That should be enough for someone clicking accidentally to say "Oops" and cancel the report. Just thinking out loud. Jim H |
