Re: Is there anyway to change the display of postings to show the Posting number first in the threads?
You should be able to accomplish the same thing by using the Messages view, /g/GroupManagersForum/messages, since they get numbered as they come in.? You can reverse the sort order by using the Date at the upper right.

Is there anyway to change the display of postings to show the Posting number first in the threads?
On YahooGroups when I would go to look at the threads It could display them in the "Relaxed" "Slim" form with the message number first, then the message subject and then the user who submitted it and the date submitted. I would then manually copy this data and put it into a spreadsheet which allowed me to work with each posting using its posting number as the reference number. TIA! ? |

Re: So no PRIVATE MESSAGING, right? Any hope it will be implemented?
But the Chat function is not a private conversation between one member to another, correct? I'm referring to what Yahoo had and still has---the ability to send a message directly to another member, so that only you and the member you message are in the conversation, and you and the member are the only ones who can see the conversation between you two.?

Re: So no PRIVATE MESSAGING, right? Any hope it will be implemented?
Disappointed upon searching that PM's don't exist in the IO Groups,When replying from the web page, members compose their reply in the reply window and then need to click on the PRIVATE button in the lower right hand corner below the window to reply to just the sender. Dano |

See Admin>Settings>Message Policies>Reply To and uncheck the box saying "Remove Other Reply Options." See also?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Replying-privates?for further details on this. Group Owners (and Moderators with proper permissions) can send private emails to anyone in their group via either the Member List or the Directory. Regular subscribers can also send private emails via the member Directory, but only to those subscribers who have created a group profile and enabled sharing.? ? Re: Member levels - is this a possibility?

There are no features that work as you want.? One option would be to create a subgroup for the permanent members where you could store information that temporary members shouldn't have access to.? You could allow everyone to join the main group, but only 'full-access' members in the subgroup.? (Everyone has to be a member of the primary group before they can join a subgroup.)? This could lead to some confusion though, especially on where to post, so probably isn't the best approach.? Another option would be to have separate groups, though that would create an extra step and maybe more work.
I've thought about having an expiration date for one of my groups (a paid membership club), but haven't pursued it.? A suggestion on the beta group (official suggestion box for the site) would be the best place to ask about having this possibility implemented. Member levels - is this a possibility?
#howto
#membership
We are a small community group and have two types of members - those that will be joining us shortly but need access to the group (temporary member) and those that meet the requirements to be admitted with full access to our group (full member).?
In BigTent, which we previously used, we could allow the former (temporary members) to have limited access to the group and, I think (I was not moderating the BigTent group), set the membership to expire in a certain amount of days unless upgraded to full member. Can this be done here in Groups.io? Our community group does not charge any membership fee or anything like that but we have a vetting process to ensure that those who apply for membership (temporary or full) are bonafide. Thanks in advance for your help. |

You must be a youngster.? That's an acoustic modem as was used on the Teletype 33/35.? The great-grandfather of texting! ;>)
