Missing incoming messages for two days?

We typically have 10 or more messages per day, sometimes 30 or 40.
On Dec 7 we had exactly 7, 4 posted at the group and 3 emailed.
We've had none since except from moderators.
None of the Dec 7 posts showed up in the Digests.

This is very unusual for our group especially since we just went through a Giving Tuesday fundraiser and people usually are very curious about how we made out.

Has anyone else suffered a sudden almost 2 day spell with no input?

Understood. My point maybe not made clearly was,?if the group rule is to allow attachments but ban embedded pix, then that possibly poses a problem for many members (iOS) who would otherwise like to ¡°obey the rule.¡± ?

If the owner¡¯s position is, ¡°Tough crap, it¡¯s my group so don¡¯t use an iOS device,¡± that's ok but it doesn¡¯t seem to meet the desired end. But if the desire is to ban all, including embedded, then that¡¯s a different end.?

If the desire is to ban some offensive (for whatever reason) embedded pic (a business card, ad, cartoon, whatever) then that¡¯s a ¡®hole ¡®nother issue (and a black hole it is.)

Maybe I inferred something I shouldn¡¯t have - which ?of the above (or other) rule were you looking to accomplish?

Default password?

"GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password-and-Profile%3B-Changing-Email-Address"
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password-and-Profile%3B-Changing-Email-Address
says:

| Setting Your Own Password
| Maybe you are using the default password that Groups.io set for you when you were moved over from Yahoo! Groups or Google Groups.

What is this 'default password?
Does it refer to the temporary password (login link) that any Groups.io user can get at any time - if so this is misleading verbiage - or something else?

You don't have to upload them one at a time.?In the Upload File dialog, click the Browse button. Select as many files as you want from the resulting File Explorer "Open" window. In Windows, you can do this by clicking and dragging with the mouse, or hold down the CTRL key while clicking on several files.

Ctrl-A will also work to select all the files, but you have to click somewhere in the "Open" box first. I have no idea why.

When you're done making your selections, click the Open button at the bottom. The files selected should now appear as thumbnails in the Upload dialog. Enter a description if you want and click the blue Add button to actually upload them.

Having said that, there is no provision to upload an entire folder. You have to manually create the directory structure within groups.io first, at which point you can then upload a collection of files into each folder.

I hope that made sense.

Re: Cannot sign-in to my Groups.io Accounts

Jim, are they dups to the same email address? Or do you get the same message to two email addresses?

There is a way to prevent dups to the same email address - stop getting copies of your own sent messages. Go to Account on the right (under your name), click on Preferences, choose: Email Preferences. Untick I always want copies of my own emails.

It's possible to unsubscribe from a group without logging in at all. Just send an empty email addressed to [email protected]?(where GROUPNAME is the actual name of the group). This email must be sent from the email address that you want to unsubscribe.?

Hope this helps,

It is a form of identity theft. Options for legal action vary by jurisdiction.

Further discussion on this is idle speculation.

Because of the potential for the impersonator to access personal financial accounts (via the email account), if it's not specifically illegal it should be.

Adding Via Groups IO to my sender name

Hello

A few weeks ago I asked about why "Via Groups IO" was being added to my sender name and shows under from as "Loopy via Groups IO" when I send mail to my group.? Someone said it must have been my email provider that was doing that.? So I closed that email account (ZOHO) and opened a new account under GMAIL.
It was all fine until about 4 or 5 days ago and once again this started being added to my sender name which leads me to believe it isn't my email account but something to do with groups io.? I've had another? gmail account that I have used for years without that problem.

I hope someone can help because I don't like that being added.? Other people in the group use gmail without this issue.? Thank you in advance.

Loopy

Re: New Group Not Being Created From Yahoo Groups

Jim,

And maybe also include in the Wiki the gist of what you said above
about the switch from "need to invite" to "invitation received" is
automated and the rest after that is manual and takes time.
Done.

I had to use a screen-shot from an earlier transfer for this step, as I seem to have missed it in my most recent transfer. Possibly the screen has changed, particularly the wording of status text.

If anyone knows that it has please let me know, or better yet paste in an updated screenshot. Or send the screen shot to me off-list if you don't feel comfortable editing the Wiki page.

You don't copy and paste, just click on the link in the email.? That should automatically log you in to that email address account.

Cannot sign-in to my Groups.io Accounts

Jim Hill

I am subscribed to a number of groups.io forums using my personal email accounts (Jim2_w6ivw@..., for example). I'm receiving dups, so need to unsubscribe from the appropriate account. However, I cannot log in to any of my groups.io forums.

I go to the Please Log in page, list my email address, then use "Email me a link" for a password.

I copy the link in the email, and paste it in the password field. I checked the email header to verify I'm looking at the proper email.

A message saying "Your email address or Password is incorrect" appears

I tried opening a new account, but I'm told "Your email address or password is already registered."

Suggestions?
Jim

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

We seem to be resuming the trend of short change logs while Mark focuses on "working on the app and other stuff".

Comments about these are welcome:

INTERNAL: Moved from Grafana to Chronograf for metrics dashboards.
NEW: Added advanced subscription option badges to the Delivery column
in the Groups page. Also, did some reformatting.

Please call out any you find significant.

I didn't expect it, either.

I can see how it could be a desirable feature in plain-text only groups
that allow attachments; preserving the ability to have attached images
for members who can't attach them in their email interface (or have
difficulty controlling the way images are handled, or just forget).
I wonder now if it's possible to "effectively" strip embedded images by setting Plain Text Only in message formatting?in addition to disabling attachments. Not really an option for my groups, as we need the ability to attach documents (images? not so much), but maybe it would work. Haven't tested it.

You could also pose it as the same control given to Attachments (Allow,
Bounce, Strip, and Moderate), I think for the same reasons.
I'm receptive to this, as long as the interactions with message formatting options and the attachments settings could be worked out and well-understood.?

My initial proposal was based on the notion that "simpler is better" and more likely to be implemented. But Mark has other fish to fry, and I've frankly just about given up on any feature of this nature ever landing on his radar screen, the occasional complaints that filter in about sig line images (and so on) notwithstanding.

Bruce

I have a few members and myself as owner who have an A next to their names on the member list. It says this is an attachment limited.

This badge reflects each member's subscription setting on email attachments, so that they aren't sent any emails containing huge attachments. This badge was recently added (among others) per discussions in beta (see ).

You can change it, if it bothers you. Go to Admin>Members and open each member record. Now open the Advanced Preferences and examine the Max Attachment Size pull-down. If it is set to anything other than "Unlimited," this badge will show up. Change it as you wish and click the Save button.

While we're at it, you might also want to change the default subscription settings for your group. This default is used for all new subscriptions to your group....if a subscriber wants something else they have to change it manually. Go to Admin>Settings and click the "Default Sub Settings" button at the top of the page. Again, scroll down to Max Attachment Size and change it to Unlimited. This won't update the individual subscriber records that already have the limitation, you will still have to fix those per the previous paragraph. But it will keep any new subscribers from also displaying the badge, at least temporarily.

Please note that setting the Max Attachment Size?to something smaller than unlimited does NOT make the attachment inaccessible. The person will instead be sent a link to the attachment; they can click on that and (after logging in) still get it.

Something to keep in mind:? Some email providers (or intermediate mail servers) may refuse to forward messages that are too big. In such a case, it's better to limit the size of attachments than it is to have a provider bounce the message. There may also be a connect-time concern for those people who might still be using dial-up connections. Finally, some people using mobile devices may want to restrict the size of attachments so they don't run up against problems with data limits (i.e.: being forced to download files they really aren't interested in).

None of these concerns is nearly the problem that they once were, but please consider how your subscribers may feel about it if you choose to fiddle with their subscription settings.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce
