Do they show up in the Admin -> Activity log? Check your own activity log - Admin -> Members -> click on your entry -> Activity History (tab) -> Filter on Action = "Accepted Message" and click

I am by no means any expert. Some Mail Servers are instantaneous, other store and forward based on traffic, and some store and forward at given times/intervals. This can happen on Send AND/OR Receive.
