Lost Group

Hi -
I created a new Groups.io Groups months ago. Now I am ready to use it but:
I can¡¯t create the name because it says it already exists

I can¡¯t initiate the transfer from YahooGroups because the name doesn¡¯t appear in my list of groups.io Groups.

It sounds like I need to delete the group and start over but since I can¡¯t see it, I can¡¯t delete it.

help please!
thanks!
Cathy

Re: Reply To Sender

Same problem. Mark F. explained there were technical reasons why he couldn't put a Reply To Sender link in messages received and resent as plaintext. He suggested turning on the Force HTML setting, which I did. Now even messages received as plaintext are rebroadcast as HTML, with all the expected footer links included.

In the Message Policies Section I have the Reply To option currently set to reply to group.

This drop-down selection sets the default for email replies. For example, if someone is reading a group message in their email client and hits the reply button, the reply message will automatically be populated with the group address. If you are expecting different behavior then a different selection needs to be made here, perhaps "reply to group and sender."

Reply to other options is not checked. ?

I assume you mean here that you have "Remove Other Reply Options" unchecked.?

You have to force html. Please see my response to your inquiry of Sept 23 (Ref:?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/11997).?

Hope this helps,

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

  • CHANGE: Changed the Action menu in the Members page, pulling email delivery and moderation options into dialogs. This makes the Actions dropdown smaller, so it works better on mobile, and is preparation for other options being added.
  • NEW: When viewing an event, show the person who created the event.
  • NEW: Added event organizer information to event reminder emails.
  • CHANGE: Changed how messages are sorted in digests. We now sort by date and then group by topic, which is slightly different from before. Now, the date of the first message we're showing in the topic determines the sort order of the topic, not the date of the first message ever in the topic.
  • BUGFIX: We were not properly escaping newlines in the DESCRIPTION field in ICS files.
  • BUGFIX: For tables with HTML Paragraph columns that were not the first column, the HTML edit widget was not properly initialized when adding/editing a row.
  • CHANGE: When viewing a photo, the links to next/previous photos now extend the full height of the photo.
  • BUGFIX: The Subscribe to Calendar button was improperly disabled for some subgroups.
  • BUGFIX: Fix table csv imports of addresses, where the city field was being populated by the address line 2.
  • CHANGE: Only display the Email link on a member's profile if the group's directory is visible to members.

Having a question field to allow prospective members to introduce themselves upon membership request is a longed for feature which, unfortunately, has not been implemented yet.

What we do in my group is send a Pending Member Notice asking prospective members to introduce themselves. If they don't reply within 2-3 days we give them a second chance and send the notice again. If they don't reply to the second probe either, we reject their request. In Yahoogroups we had a mandatory question field and approving new members was a smooth job.

Best regards,
Marina

It would be great if you could block the domain. Is it worth posting as a suggestion on Beta? You can already ban an email address so perhaps it could be expanded to domain.?

Possible?

Re: Dealing with lots of @qq spam #question #spam

To clarify: my group is (somewhat) restricted. To be able to post you have to be a member, hence I have to deal with fake member requests from @qq addresses. Those @qq addresses also try to directly post to the group. Obviously they don't succeed, but their failed attempts flood the Activity log that I use as owner.

Re: Not receiving ad letters from a group

The email is sent directly from my personal email address through to the group IO's group address. Then groups IO sends it to this person as well as to the other 79 members of the group.
?
This only seems to be happening to her. Everyone else receives the email just fine.

Ilene,
Your wording is somewhat confusing.? Is the email sent directly from the personal email you mention?
or is it sent from that personal email, through to your group at groups.io and from groups.io to this person?

If it is the first case, direct from your personal email, it is far more likely to be blocked by her service AND you may be Blacklisted as a result.
You might try sending her a duplicate of it via her Subscription where you can send her an email as an owner and cc yourself since you seem to indicate that groups.io email is getting through to her.

Her account settings are just fine.
She isn't bouncing, I just checked.
I think it is an isolated incidence that is occurring with her email.
?
Her last email to me said she changed her password and wants to see if that helps.
I will let you know as tomorrow another email goes out to the group.

Since everyone else receives it, the problem is with 1) her settings, 2) her email service, or 3) it's going into the spam folder.? As the owner, you can verify her settings.? If that's not the problem, there's something going on with her service.? Check her account to see if it's bouncing and go from there.

That could be that her email provider is blocking it as spam.
It is a?rather large email 422KB in size?and she is the only one who is having problems?getting it.
?
I believe she?also said she can't even grab it from the group's message page.

So, it seems that this particular message is a large email that is primarily advertising and other messages get through fine. Perhaps it is being blocked as spam.

She does receive the calendar messages because they come directly from group IO.??

The Ads letter she is talking about is the only piece of mail that my group sends out and it is sent out from a personal email address that I use for that group. It is an advertising ads letter that is pretty big and contains about 50 or so ads from group owners who wish to advertise their groups.

I'm not sure what an ad letter is, but I suspect you have a problem with your subscription settings. It sounds like you are somehow receiving calendar reminders but have regular group email delivery turned off.

Try sending a blank email to [email protected]. Of course, replace GROUPNAME with the actual name of your group.

Or if you are logged in, go to your group, click on Subscription on the left-side menu bar, click on Individual Messages on the resulting page, then scroll down and click on Save.

Doing either one of these should set that group's message delivery back to Individual Emails.
?
You can send inquiries like this directly to the owner of your group via [email protected]. The group owner should be able to look at your subscription settings online and help you to troubleshoot any subscription problems.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
