Re: E-Mail identity for individual groups (alias's)

Scott,
Not sure what you're asking.? The article you reference has to do with adding an alias for a subscriber/member to be able to send?from an email address other than the primary email address for their account.? This has nothing to do with the email address of the group itself (<groupname>@groups.io, for instance).
There is no way that I know of to have an alternate or alias for addressing email to the group.? What would an alias be needed for?
Thanks,
Toby

E-Mail identity for individual groups (alias's)

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I've recently been asked how to assign an alias e-mail to a group, so I looked it up on the wiki, which a link to supposedly how to do it is below.

/g/95033talk/wiki/How-Do-I-Change-The-Email-Address-I-Have-Associated-With-The-Group%3F

?

However, when I try doing it as described, it is not even close to working.? There is no "profile" selection option on the pull down on the upper right at all, just account and logout.

?

I did figure out that it would appear you need to go into "Account" on the drop down menu on the upper right and then to "identity" on the left menu column.? Then it would appear you can edit information for each particular group from within the identity area.? However, I see no way to add a separate "alias" e-mail for any of your groups.

?

So, does anyone know how you actually can add an alias e-mail to a group?? Or does this not work at all yet?

?

Scotty

Re: Exporting details of who voted in a poll

I'm not aware of any export / download of poll responses so you may have to copy from the displayed pages.

If your Spam Control setting has the Restricted button checked, the Pending Subscription member notice will automatically be sent when someone applies to join the group. It is sent from the +owner address and replies will be returned to that address.

See?/static/help#membernotices?.

Custom fields not needed! Have you set up a Pending Subsciption message to applicants? If not then I suggest that that is the way to go.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have a questionnaire going out?to pending members.
Once a member applies to join my group they receive?a questionnaire sent as a member notice for pending members. It is sent automatically.
?
If they don't fill it out, they don't get approved.
?
Sometimes if I don't hear back from?someone, I will then email them the same notice?coming from my email.?Sometimes they will read personal mail faster then?mail coming from the group. They don't get approved unless I get something back from them.

What is the recommended way to screen new members?

My group requires a valid veterinary license and I am currently messaging them from the approval queue. To this point I have gotten very few responses and I think legitimate member requests are probably getting stumped with this method.

Is anyone using other methods?

Does Groups.io offer a better way to screen - or allow potential members to provide info upon membership request? A few custom question fields possibly?

Please let me know - Thank you

That would depend on whether they reply online or via an email client.? On the client, it would depend on their own settings.? On my client, I don't automatically quote, so it's the same as online.? That way, my usage is consistent across both displays and makes it easier for me to remember.? As Bruce said, using the 'quote' button is simple and adds one click when online.

The initial message delivery option is set in Default Sub Settings (see Admin>Settings, then click the button at the top of the page). However, there is currently no way to keep a subscriber from changing it, either online or using the email commands.

As far as an editor tool goes, if you train people to click on the quote button in the message editor (bubble to the left of the Formats pull-down on the menu bar), it will give the effect you want.

Of course, there is no way to force people to do that. The example you cited is an extreme one, but everyone has their own preferences on "quoting rules." This topic has been discussed at length here in GMF with no resolution in sight. People have to take ownership of how much (or how little) of the message they quote, whether it is placed at the top or the bottom, etc. This is not a problem that can be addressed by software.

Regards,
Bruce

P.S. You do realize that you have inadvertently hijacked the attachment topic to bring up an unrelated issue? Many people also consider this to be annoying behavior.

Under-quoting (was: Attachment storage question)

Another problem emerging is that replies made from the website do not include the message the writer is responding to. I have not a clue what the response below means.

No criticism of the poster but this was the entire message:

I¡¯m no expert on this, but I would say the answer to both of your questions are No and Yes.
I would have to go back through messages to find one that had two questions to find out what the questions were.

I¡¯ve been wondering why this kind of message has been suddenly appearing on my lists. From experimenting with ways to work around the lack of forwarding, save, and print functions, I discovered that these are coming from people who read and reply online.

People are accustomed to the message being added below their comment. They don¡¯t write messages that make sense independently. They have to paste the message into their reply. Not sure retraining will have any effect.

Termi,

If that is the case, and it seems that you are going to be consistently running out of storage space, then it seems that you should consider upgrading to a group subscription that offers more storage. Look at the options in the Pricing page.?/static/pricing

Thanks for this. I will join and then write my own suggestion and quote yours and the number. Will take me a bit to get it all worded right. All new to me.

Re: Attachment storage question

Termi,

How do we forward your message to bump it up?
There are a couple of ways but all start with joining the beta group, if you haven't already.

The simplest is to click reply on the message on site. You could then write a brief statement in support of whichever part(s) of my suggestion you agree with. It may help to describe your groups situation as a use case for the functionality. That topic is old enough that it has been moderated, but that's ok.

Do we copy and paste into a new message?
Writing a new topic would be more emphatic. You could write your own suggestion and cite my message for details. You needn't copy / paste it, or not all of it (it is lengthy). You can just give the message number or the link to it, as I did.

Re: E-mails are "Bouncing #issue

Nicole,

Can someone please provide the IP address for the sender's email
server, so that our IT Department may look into why we are all
receiving the "Your emails are bouncing" messages?
My service says it received your message from
web01.groups.io. [66.175.222.12]

But I have no reason to believe that Groups.io always sends from that same server. Nor any reason to believe that it doesn't either, I suppose.

The question is what header fields you email service uses, and how it uses them, when it decides whether to accept or reject an inbound email message. If they can apply a whitelist to the "envelope from" (aka Sender) address they should whitelist the groups.io domain.

We've added the groups.io page as a "safe" site to the firewall, but
this is still happening.
Safe for web access would not likely have any bearing on email delivery.

In your Subscription page you can look at the Email Delivery History tab, in the Recent Bounces section, to see what error code your email service gave to groups.io the last few times your service rejected a group posting.

That information would likely be useful to your IT department as well.
