The browser cookie that keeps you logged in has a one-month expiration, so needing to log back in periodically is normal. Do you know the rationale for a 1-month expiration... or can you imagine one? (I don't and can't.) Any idea why not 1-month, but refreshed on each log-in? Or 1 year. Or "forever" (Jan 19, 2038). Worth mentioning as a change on [beta]? A much longer expiration interval (or none) sure seems like it would solve a recurring problem for many. Jim H |
Re: Automated donotreply account stuck in "bouncing" status
Eric,
I have an email that goes out automatically a few times per day, butUse an Email Integration address for this. That provides a specific address which your service can send to that will post to your group without requiring your service to be a member. The integration will "lock in" on the address of the first message it receives so that spammers can't use that as a way to get junk into your group. Or, you could set the group to allow non-Subscriber posts. The plus side is that it is easy to set up, and works with any number of sending services. The downsides are that it works with any sending address and so all such posts will perforce require approval. Automated donotreply account stuck in "bouncing" status
Eric Ball
I have an email that goes out automatically a few times per day, but the account can't receive incoming email. The account was manually added to our list, but its delivery option was accidentally not set to "No email" at first. Now it's in "bouncing" status, and there's no way to get it out of that status, at least as far as I can tell. Any probe will fail, but we don't need it to receive email; it just needs to be able to send. Are there any ways to get around the automatic blocking of "bouncing" members?

Your best bet here is probably using an rss feed. The feed address for your GIO group is the same as that of your home page with /rss appended to the end. Check your home page and -- if your group is Public -- you will find a "Feed" link under Group Information. I understand that there used to be a native Facebook interface for this but it's gone now. You might try the 3rd-party app found at??. If your group is Private, there is no way to make it Public again. In that case you will have to find some app that will forward incoming personal emails to Facebook, get it set up and working, then subscribe that email address to the GIO group. From what I'm reading the rss feed will probably be more straightforward. By the way, do not expect things to cross-post in real time. These feeds are shared by polling, and delays of several hours can be expected. Hope this helps, Bruce? -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Two questions, and my sincere apologies if these have already been addressed!

Just a quick apology for the negative comment below, it had been a long day! This is especially true if I am using my main group setting as a firewall for the subgroups. Do I really want two Pending subscriptions to show up, and have to remember to reject them both? With the main group set to NuM only and the subgroup set to Restricted, a join request to the subgroup puts the user in the main group right away, and into Pending in the subgroup...again, as expected. These observations suggest to me that the subscription process is working the way it's supposed to. You should be able to achieve the behavior you want by unchecking Restricted and using some other Spam Control setting in the main group. Now I have to go back to Shalstest and set everything back the way it was. :-) Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
Re: staying logged in to Groups.IO
I use Safari on my iPhone (iOS 12.0.1) and on my MacBook. I am able to Follow without having to log in.
I have set a password. i.e. I am not using a default password from "email me a link". And I stay logged in on both devices. Also no apps on my iPhone to prevent cookies. Odd that your two devices won't play nicely with each other. Frances -- /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki /static/help More help: use the search button at the top of the Messages list. |
