This happened immediately after uploading a bunch of PDF files and I received a time out error from Groups.io (I guess). It's definitely in your browser.? I had it happen several years ago under similar circumstances and fixed it by installing a fresh version of the browser so that it used all default settings.? I don't remember the details, but a setting got changed in the Applications menu.? If you aren't familiar with those settings, you can either try to find someone that is or load a new browser, either your current one or a new one. Re: Adding a group of members to multiple subgroups at one time
I think the easiest thing would be to transfer everything to the main group here.? I'd include members since they'd need to be members of that to join a subgroup anyway.? Even on a free group, you can direct add folks to a subgroup.? There is a temporary restriction once you add 20 members in a 24 hour period, but Mark usually approves those in a short time.? If you just add all to a subgroup at once, it would only be one delay.? A few folks have found that on subsequent adds, there doesn't seem to be a delay.
If the files will be going in a subgroup, you could make that a separate transfer request once you have the members there that you want.? Remember that any files where the member isn't present will be attributed to you. Either a glitch or something changed in your browser.? I just checked a couple of PDFs on my group and they opened in the browser.

Adding a group of members to multiple subgroups at one time
I'm getting ready to finally transfer my main Yahoo group over, and I need to add the members to 3 different subgroups (files and such to only 1 of them).? I figured that I could request 3 different transfers from Yahoo specifying each subgroup, but I don't think that Mark would appreciate it if I can do it another way.? I don't think that I can do a bulk add (rats), but I have over 400 members in the group so doing them 1 by 1 isn't feasible.? Is there a way that I'm missing to do 20 or 50 at a time?
And for those who think I should just have one subgroup - yep, considered that, but need to split up functions and mainly messaging into different groups. We are starting with the same members, but it won't stay that way. Thanks Beth |

Maybe Mark could update the cookie that shows you're already logged in when you visit the site?? The only time I could see that being a problem would be if a phone/tablet was lost/stolen and the finder/thief could get on it without a password. I agree that a log-on is a confirmation of identity... if it involves a user name, and a password that the user keeps secure. But that's not the case with Gio. With Gio, literally anyone with access to the user's computer (or just the email account) can request for a log-in link. No need to know a password and thus no strong assurance of true identity. It's convenient for people who can't deal with passwords, but it leads to the "regularly dropped from group" complaints (see subject line above) that we see several times weekly in GMF. It's a solution to one problem and the cause of another problem. I think the complaints about "dropped from group" would decrease substantially, and security - which is marginal via the "request a log-in link" approach to begin with - wouldn't be materially affected if the current log-in cookie were automatically renewed for a month each time the user logs in. Users would only be "dropped from group" if they didn't log in for a month, rather than being dropped every month despite logging in several times a day. The current approach makes no sense to me given the level of confusion over being "dropped from the group." Jim H |

The browser cookie that keeps you logged in has a one-month expiration, so needing to log back in periodically is normal. Do you know the rationale for a 1-month expiration... or can you imagine one? (I don't and can't.) Any idea why not 1-month, but refreshed on each log-in? Or 1 year. Or "forever" (Jan 19, 2038). Worth mentioning as a change on [beta]? A much longer expiration interval (or none) sure seems like it would solve a recurring problem for many. Jim H |
Re: Automated donotreply account stuck in "bouncing" status
Eric,
I have an email that goes out automatically a few times per day, butUse an Email Integration address for this. That provides a specific address which your service can send to that will post to your group without requiring your service to be a member. The integration will "lock in" on the address of the first message it receives so that spammers can't use that as a way to get junk into your group. Or, you could set the group to allow non-Subscriber posts. The plus side is that it is easy to set up, and works with any number of sending services. The downsides are that it works with any sending address and so all such posts will perforce require approval. Automated donotreply account stuck in "bouncing" status
Eric Ball
I have an email that goes out automatically a few times per day, but the account can't receive incoming email. The account was manually added to our list, but its delivery option was accidentally not set to "No email" at first. Now it's in "bouncing" status, and there's no way to get it out of that status, at least as far as I can tell. Any probe will fail, but we don't need it to receive email; it just needs to be able to send. Are there any ways to get around the automatic blocking of "bouncing" members?
