Re: Posts passing without being approved
Victoria,
You may have one or more group members who are set to Override: not moderated in their
Posting Privileges option.
Look for one or more members with the blue P badge next to their email address (in the Members list) and go set them to Use Group Moderation Setting. Unfortunately you can't sort the Members list by their Posting Privileges, but if you have a lot of members it might be worth downloading the list and sorting it in Excel or a similar program. Re: Subgroup Direct Add
Beth, I just added a new member with Direct Add and checked 2 subgroups at the same time.? ...? But I'm getting 3 Welcome emails.? So the new member received a total of 4 emails.? I don't think that I can just turn off the subgroup welcome message in case someone is only added to a subgroup.? I've learned to deactivate the welcome notice(s) immediately before using Direct Add, as I've crafted the Direct Add inclusion to say what I want to say for those people. My normal Welcome notice (which I must remember to re-activate after the Direct Add) is worded appropriately for people who join the group on their own. Fortunately, in my case, even though I do have co-owners I'm the only one who would use Direct Add or Invite in those groups, so there's less chance of crossed wires. That's a bit of a pain but I haven't written a coherent suggestion for it yet. Maybe instead of a single Active checkbox we need subordinate checkboxes for Exclude Direct Add and Exclude Invite, since both of those have their own notices. Or maybe the positive construction: Active for Direct Add, Active for Invite, and Active for Join / Subscribe as three independent checkboxes, allowing the moderator to craft the message for each circumstance if desired. I haven't really thought this through, so other suggestions or comments are welcome. Posts passing without being approved
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI set my group on ¡°moderated¡± in ¡°Spam Control¡± temporarily, meaning that posts need approval before being sent to the group. The problem is that this doesn?t work perfectly. There is always a post or two going through without being approved. ? How can this happen? And what can I do about it? ? Victoria |
Re: Subgroup Direct Add
Thanks Shal,
I'll go email support. Another situation with subgroups and emails: I just added a new member with Direct Add and checked 2 subgroups at the same time.? I just received received 1 "you have been added" email that lists the main group plus the 2 subgroups which is great.? But I'm getting 3 Welcome emails.? So the new member received a total of 4 emails.? I don't think that I can just turn off the subgroup welcome message in case someone is only added to a subgroup.? Should have I expected those? Thanks Beth |
Re: Subgroup Direct Add
Beth, I'm in the subgroup trying to add a member that is already in main, and the add email isn't including the member notice.? I just figured out how to add from the main /members/choose one, and I received the same email - no customization which makes the member notice for direct add useless.? I wasn't not sure if it is a bug or if I misunderstood what the member notice was supposed to do. Sounds like a bug to me. I think the subgroup's active Direct Add notice should be included in the You have been added notice in those cases. What does the "unsubbed" person have to do after they go to the automatically generated link? All you have to do is click on the link, and you are immediately resubscribed. You are NOT forced to also click on any confirmation buttons or anything like that. I don't have any subgroups, but the question of how this works in that scenario intrigued me. So for the past hour or so I've been using Shalstest and one of its subgroups as a test platform. I sent a message to the subgroup and -- once it arrived in my inbox -- moved my own message to my spam folder. I was immediately unsubscribed from the subgroup, and groups.io sent me the canned notification email. Clicking on the "resume subscription" link in that email renewed my subscription to the subgroup, as expected. At no point was I ever removed from the main group. However, I was mildly surprised to find that the link in the email did not take me to a subgroup page. Instead, I was shown the main group home page. Having done that, I tried to do the same thing with the main group, but for some reason this time my ISP's FBL mechanism was not activated, and I was not unsubbed. What I *suspect* that would do is unsub you from the main group and all associated subgroups, as membership in the main group is a requirement for a subscription to any subgroup. I also suspect that the "resume subscription" link in the email would only renew your subscription to the main group, and any subgroup subscription(s) would have to be renewed manually afterward. I would be interested to know if any others have experience that would confirm or refute my hypothesis. ? Hope this helps, Bruce P.S. These kinds of things have convinced me that subgroups are a very good way to complicate your life. -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Re: HOW DO WE add identifying information about the sender in messages sent as text messages to cell phone email addresses?
The Text msg client will typically have a way to show details/info of the message and that is probably where you can find the email address of the sender.
[in Messages on Android, long press -> Info pops up a Message Details window that shows the email address of the sender.] A screen shot of the text msg display would be helpful as I imagine all of them show something to identify the sender. Groups.io is an email based messaging system so if you choose to have those messages sent to an email-to-sms gateway, you'll get what the gateway sends you and have to view it with a text msg app. For more information on the mapping of fields from smtp email to SMS/MMS messages, see??(the gateway is supposed to follow this spec but who knows what the many gateways actually do...) Re: Email Address showing
Loopy, This just started a few days ago.? I use the same email address in all my other groups on GIO but no problem there.? ?It's just the group I own. I can't think of any reason why this would depend on your ownership of the group. I suspect there's some other distinction between the cases that we're missing. Re: Subgroup Direct Add
Beth, In the subgroup I have added an active member notice with the type of Direct Add, but it isn't being included in the email.? What step did I miss? You likely haven't missed anything. made to consolidate things so that a Direct Add in the primary group, with subgroups included in the checkboxes, produces only a single You have been added notice probably accounts for this. I haven't tried checking to see if the subgroup's Direct Add notice is used in any other circumstance, such as when using the checkboxes in the subgroup's Direct Add page, or in the primary group's Subgroups page. See also if you hadn't. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Subgroup Direct Add
I have looked, and I'm probably blind, but......
For a direct add in the main group (premium), I see the boilerplate email that is sent that we can customize, but in the subgroup we are supposed to set up a member notice with a type of Direct Add in order to customize the email - at least from what I can find searching GMF.?? In the subgroup I have added an active member notice with the type of Direct Add, but it isn't being included in the email.? What step did I miss? Thanks Beth |
Re: Removed because of spam report
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhat does the "unsubbed" person have to do after they go to the automatically generated link? ? I had this a couple of times in my group. Generally Yahoo mail addresses were concerned. The person just clicks the mail gio sends and is back in. Victoria |
Re: Owner not showing up on member list
Maureen,
Does Groups.io think I am two different people?? Yes, that is exactly the case. Each email address used at Groups.io is tied to its own Groups.io account, and has its own set of subscriptions. As I look at the page, I am at the top right of the screen with one email and on the Members list with another email.? In your case you have two subscriptions in the group, using two different email addresses. One of them is a group Owner (the one that created the group) and the other isn't (the one copied in from Y!Groups). When you're logged in using the Owner address you'll see an Owner badge on the Home page button for your group: Both addresses should appear in the in the Members list, but only the Owner one should appear in the Moderators list. The default sort for the Members list is by joined date, most recent at the top. The address that created the group would then be at the end of the list. To make it easier to find the Owner address in the Members list you can click on the Joined column header to reverse the sort order, or click on one of the other column headers, or use the Search box. Will things get more confusing if I delete myself with the unwanted Yahoo! email and re-invite myself using the Owner email? The email address listed as an owner is already a member and doesn't need to be re-invited to the group, so I'm a little confused by that part of your question. Removing the Y!Mail address would be the simplest way to clarify things, but it has some downsides. That subscription owns the content (Files and Photos) transferred over from Y!Group under its address. As a group owner your other address can edit and delete that content anyway, so that isn't such a big deal. If you were a mere member of the group you might be more interested in retaining your ability to edit or delete those items. There is a vulnerability if your group has only one account listed as Owner, if something happens to that account. If you've not promoted anyone else in the group to Owner position, and you're not yet ready to do so, you might rather promote the subscription of your Y!Mail address to the Owner role so that the group has two Owners. That still leaves the group vulnerable because there's only one person behind those two Owner subscriptions, but at least it is safe from some kind of problem with one of the two accounts. If receiving group messages at both addresses is annoying, you can always set one of them to No Email, and uncheck all of its Moderator Notices. As owner you can do that through the Members list by clicking on the row for that subscription. Or, you can use the Subscription page to edit the subscription of whichever email address you are currently logged in with.
