I'm assuming you're trying to upload a list of invitees. The file has to be a plain text file in the same format as if you had typed the addresses into the Email Addresses box immediately above, including carriage returns at the end of each line. If you're trying to upload a word processor or spreadsheet document (MS-Word, Excel or some such), you have to save it as plain text first. Better yet, create the file in a plain-text editor such as Notepad.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

Hello,

?

Being new to Groups IO and the GMF forum over the last couple of months, I have become aware of at least 3 other blind group owners in addition to myself. Since this brings some unique issues not encountered by sighted owners, I am curious whether there is a blind group managers forum (BGMF) in existence? If so, what is the link to join? If not, do other blind group owners feel this would be a good idea to create? Although much of the advice and direction disseminated by the GMF forum, many of the ways we access options with a screen reader are very different from directions offered by sighted group managers. Thoughts?

?

Best,

Al

Only if the owner has changed the default settings to give moderators that power, I believe, but thanks anyway.

Re: Photo question

Janice,

There is definitely no photo album with that name (Emailed Photos).

I will write to support about this situation.
If you haven't already, you may not need to.

Ok, it seems that two of the three types of embedded images do not get stored in Emailed Photos, and likely do not consume your group's storage quota. Those would be:

http: This one makes sense, the image file is stored remotely, not on Groups.io and not in the message content at all. It truly is not an "attached" image.

data: This one would be an oversight (bug) I think. The image file is inline in the message body, so it is consuming Groups.io's storage, but because it is in the message body it is not technically "attached" nor is it stored in Emailed Photos; and it probably isn't deducted from your group's storage quota. Arguably (above a certain size) it should be put in Emailed Photos and counted against your group's storage quota.

If you want to find out which you are dealing with, you can look at the View Source for the message. After selecting that from the More menu, use your browser's find function (usually Ctrl+F) and search for "img" (without the quotes). You should find something that looks like:

... <img src=3D"data: ...

but the word before the colon may be http, cid, or data. There should be one of those img elements for each of the three photos in that message.

I'm placing my bets on http, since (I think) data is still rare; and (I think) cid would have been in Emailed Photos.

Re: migrating from mailman?

Joseph,

Adam, myself and a couple of others, I Have done transfers from
mailman. We simply did the correct dad, which allows you to put in 20
addresses at a time.
Actually, there is no explicit limit to how many addresses you can submit at one time to Direct Add. However if you submit more than 20 in a 24-hour period your action may be held pending review by Groups.io.

Emphasis on the word "may", I was only held the first time I submitted a couple hundred addresses, and the hold was less than 24 hours. But Groups.io was smaller then, and support less busy, so your mileage may vary.

Adam, myself and a couple of others, I Have done transfers from mailman. We simply did the correct dad, which allows you to put in 20 addresses at a time. Then triggers the next how many ever other members that don't get added will have to be approved by Mark then they will also simply be direct debit. So you can either choose to upload text file with Direct dance, or simply use the invite functionality. We did not transfer our archives. Everything else has worked wonderfully.

Wondering if anyone has migrated a list from mailman and if so the best way to do it.
I can get members addresses into a text file if that makes things easier.
TIA.

Open the Members List (Admin>Members) and click anywhere in the row of the person you want to promote. Pull down the Role menu and make the appropriate change. Be sure to update the Permissions and Notifications checkboxes as appropriate, then click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Re: add co-owner or moderator

How Can I Add Moderators To My Group?

Groups.io supports groups with multiple moderators and owners, along with a full permissions system. To add someone as a moderator, they must first be a member of your group.

Navigate to the group on Groups.io and click on Admin/Members in the left sidebar. From there, click on the member you would like to make a moderator. After opening the record of the person to be made a moderator, click on the selector "Role". It offers three options: Owner, Moderator, and Member. Select moderator. Click "save" at the bottom of the screen after making your selection. Each person can have only one role; the owner has all permissions, the moderator more limited permissions.

Re: Photo question

There is definitely no photo album with that name (Emailed Photos).? This is the only case I know of where someone in my group has sent embedded photos.? Some people have attempted to attach photos and they are automatically stripped from their message.? I advise them to upload the photos to a photo album rather than attempt to attach them.? We are a quilting group and share a lot of photos.

I will write to support?about this situation.

That stripping/reformatting can be done without too much difficulty in a
spreadsheet program for many thousands of addresses. You do need to know how
to use certain text manipulating formulae though.

Adam & Shal,

Having recently moved 3 mailman groups to Groups IO via the direct add route,
let me just offer the following as a helpful hint. When one exports an address
list in mailman if someone has a name associate with it gets appended to the
end of the address enclosed in parenthesis. For instance my address with name
looked like this: Alan1057@... (Alan Robbins) Now, Groups IO has a much more
stringent protocol in how it accepts email addresses in the direct add feature.
Please read the syntax prior to submitting. Mass subscribe option in mailman
would accept the above example of my address, Groups IO will not. So, if you are
only going to subscribe email addresses extracted from mailman, you will need to
manually edit that file so only the email address is on the line or if you want
to include the name it needs to be as Mark has indicated on that direct add
page. The first list I submitted from mailman contained about 360 names and only
181 get added. The 181 was the addresses that folks had not associated a name in
mailman with their address. Maybe there is some type email address stripper
program that will only extract from your mailman the email addresses. If your
group is small, manually editing is no big deal, but if it is large, it can be
quite a task. Anyway just thought I'd pass on my experience

The Emailed Photos album, if it exists, will be the first album in the Photos section no matter how you sort them.

The photos appear in her message on the group and also arrived in her message in my in box.
I would be pleased with this behavior, given your settings. It's kinda surprising, though; and seems to suggest a way that photos can be shared without it counting against your group storage allocation.

Interesting...
