Re: How to stop receiving your own email posting?

I'm having a related issue - I think. I'm putting this here to help anyone else who encounters this issue and doesn't want to spend hours/days/whatever figuring it out.

I'm using Gmail, so that's established.

I had my account set to send me a copy of all of my messages.

I was receiving TWO copies of my replies to others, but not necessarily my own posts. It turns out that I was getting my Gmail copy of my sent message ALONG WITH the copy sent by GIO, so each reply I sent was showing up twice in the threads to which I was replying.

I unchecked that setting, and now I'm getting nothing (initially) on my own posts and only the Gmail "Sent" copy in my Gmail threads.

Was the user in "not confirmed" status? If the NC status badge is missing, then the subscriber has already confirmed his email address.

I wish there was a way to resend the groups.io confirmation email, similar to the way bounce probes can be resent.

Well within doing so, I also CCB moderators as well. And whenever I did that, it also put the group footer below my message. So it looked as if I was sending it to the group. Is this normal, or is this possibly a glitch that needs to re-reported to support.
There have been many recent changes to message footers so it's entirely possible that something weird may have slipped through the cracks. Can you send us a screenshot of this footer??

#suggestion / #bug - New Topic return/enter key action #suggestion #bug

When creating a new topic, if you?hit?return/enter at the end of the subject line it sends the message with a blank message box. ?But doing the same when sending a message to a specific?member comes back with a "You must include a message." error message. ?These should be consistent, and the way it works for a member message is by far the better option IMHO. ?I actually see this as more of a bug than a suggestion.

Because bulk file and photo deletion is a FAQ, I've converted my recent post on deleting files, photos and attachments to a new GMF wiki page.

Re: #addmembers #subgroups - Can you eliminate join email for subgroups? #addmembers #subgroups

Dan's comment sparked another idea. ?Since the "system" knows what groups are being joined, why not have one message include all the groups/subgroups being joined. ?And if Dan's idea of a checkbox for with/without msg was included, then the owner could "control" what the message contained.

Peace,
Tom

No.

Correct on both counts.

Also I presume this won¡¯t change the amount of storage space used, but it is desirable for our group¡¯s organization of materials.
This is correct only if you remember to delete the attachment from the message using the instructions provided earlier.?

Go for it. It possibly also merits a suggestion at beta@ - it seems to me that the UI could be a bit more informative than just a "no" symbol.

I'll think about where to link it from on the wiki home page. Seems like it may be a member question as well as moderator.

FWIW I rather agree about the UI, but I'd rather have a "play" somewhere before suggesting any change on beta.

Your email address is your user ID.

The username in your account settings is not currently used for anything.?There is a rumor that it might be resurrected someday in order to permit the tagging of posts (like Facebook), but it's only a rumor.

Display Name is group-specific, and amounts to an index into the member Profiles. My guess is that your Display Name for the group is being [re]populated based on the "from" address provided by your email client. See the following thread for further discussion of Display Name:??/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/23672436#10374?

If Display Name is unpopulated, GIO defaults to an obfuscation of your email address...meaning that all the domain information is left off.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

If the name is not taken, yes. There are some caveats, of course. Subscriber's browser bookmarks and any entry in the address book in their mail client will point to the wrong place(s). So be sure to scour the GMF message archives for things like that, too.

If your group is a Premium group, you can try setting up some group aliases instead of actually changing the name. I have two set up for mine.

It's my understanding that, by using this setting, new incoming messages having attachments will not be bounced. It will not remedy Bob's issue with file/photo uploads...if that's the source of the problem you'll still have to go into your group and delete some things manually.

Change my Group's Name?

A small group I recently moved from Yahoo is in the midst of a number of changes beyond just the move from Yahoo to Groups.IO -- and now it looks like a slight name change could be a possibility.

It looks like it actually is possible to change the name of a group once you've started it, is that correct? It seems too good to be true, but I don't want to suggest to my group that it can be done if it really can't.

Bob,

Bruce Bowman wrote:

I know of no way to delete a large /non-photo/ attachment without also
deleting the message.
Edit the message (More menu) then scroll down to the bottom. For each attachment shown you can check a Delete box to remove that attachment from the message. Then you have to save the edit, with or without sending it to the group.

Regardless of which form of Save you choose, the poster of the message will receive a notice that their message has been edited.

To delete Attachments:
