If your Settings are correct then it is worth going in turn to your Files and Photos sections. Scroll down to the bottom of the first page you land on in each case, and you will find a line or two (depending on which you look at) telling you how much storage space you have used. Add the two (or sometimes three) figures together to find out the total storage in use.

If you are using a Basic (free) group then the available total is 1GB; a Premium Group has 10GB; an Enterprise Group 1TB.

If your own total is at or very close to (or even perhaps slightly over) your limit then no further uploads can take place until you free up some space. (Note: 1 TB is almost a bottomless pit and will take a lot of filling!)

Shal; it occurred to me earlier today that this subject might warrant a wiki page; do you think this is necessary or does the query not arise enough for it to be worth the effort? If you think it worthwhile then I will have a stab at writing one.

Re: Files Question

Bob,

How do I delete Photos or attachments?
I haven't actually needed to do so myself, so I'm unsure on the specifics.

Attachments (including photos that appear in the Emailed Photos album) can be deleted by editing the message and removing the attachment. Note that others have reported that when you edit a posting the posting member will be notified. Deleting photos from the Emailed Photos album also constitutes an edit of the posting.

Re: my guidedogs group;

You mentioned on another thread that you created the group and have not received the approval email.? Therefore, you should wait for the approval email.? Have you searched for the group name?
Email support and ask about the status.? Most likely it's still in process as Mark has been on vacation and these things can be delayed a bit - but they are seldom (if ever) lost.? Mark returned from vacation on July 30th and is most likely still working through things.
I would suggest not creating another group until after you get verification from support that the 1st group creation either failed or was rejected.? (you might end up with 2 groups and then have to delete one)
Thanks

Re: "Comment" field in the application for membership screen

Shal, for sure, it's been WAY, WAY better.? We've been able to easily manage our list members with creating passwords, if needed.? Improvement is huge, we don't have to constantly deny email-only membership requests like we did with Yahoo Groups.? Those created all sorts of issues, when an email-only list member would try to go see a Photo talked about on our list, only to find out they could not.? Then, list mods having to try to help that person create a full membership.? That was a huge waste of moderator time.? Groups.io has been wonderful so far, very pleased with the platform, especially with the addition of the chat room!? That was a feature we used to use quite a bit with Yahoo Groups, and was very much missed when Yahoo decided to arbitrarily remove it.?

my guidedogs group;

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Normally how long does it take to have a new group approved or rejected? I learned that the individual that approves groups was or is on vacation.? I do believe that one new group initiated after my guidedogs group is now up and running.? I think that I did everything correctly to start the group. Just wondering if I should start the process over using a different group name. I am loosing members due to bounced messages on my current group hosting.

If capacity is the problem, you'll have to find a way to make room, or

If your group postings include large or numerous message attachments you
may want to consider selecting "Delete Old Attachments" for the Out of

Re: "Comment" field in the application for membership screen

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

You said: ?At some point people need to accept the consequences of their actions or inactions. If they don't respond, they don't get approved.?

Jim, quite right. If they don¡¯t follow the original request requiring a list-specific comment required upon membership submission, their request is declined. Having the comments section included in the membership request allows the list mods to help screen out list spammers. This worked very well for us in the past, on Yahoo groups. We also declined email-only membership requests. The process was simple and required less time and effort from our list mods, many whom work full time jobs. This was appreciated.?

You said: ?Likewise, if group owners are upset at a 10% response, loosen the requirements for approval, send requests for th emissing info... in short, MANAGE YOUR GROUP. This simply isn't a Gio problem.

Right now, we have no way of screening out spammers unless we require a reply email. It is an ¡°all or none¡± proposition, so there is no option to ¡°loosen up¡±. ?So, we either do or do not require a comment. And, We manage our groups very well, running two very large (over 5,00 list members each) and active groups and have done so for over 10 years. ?And, lastly, no one said this is a ¡°problem¡±, that was your adjective. I am simply asking for a feature that was available over on Yahoo Groups. You may not feel this feature is valuable for your groups, which is fine. If the feature were added as I suggested, it would be optional. Your could simply ignore it. Every group has different dynamics and needs. For the purposes of my groups, this feature would be very helpful, and would provide a more streamlined process, versus the current workaround option.?

Re: Question about approving a moderated post #moderation

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Donnell,

I cannot uncheck approve and unmoderated senders.

Could you see my screen shot? If you're dealing with a screen reader or other assistive technologies my apologies, I don't know how to describe using those interfaces.? In any case, that isn't a checkbox, it is a button. The fact that the icon on that button looks like a check mark is meant to convey approval of the message. You are not supposed to be able to "uncheck" it.

I just want to approve and leave on moderated status.

Then click the Approve button, not the Approve & Unmoderate button.

Patty,

Also, it would be nice to have to force membership requests versus
just email only requests. This was such an issue for us over on Yahoo
Groups as my lists heavily refer to our lists¡¯ photos, Files,
database, etc. sections.
Give it a while here to see if you have a better experience. It is so much easier to gain web access to a Groups.io group (as opposed to the absurd rigamarole that Yahoo Groups became) that you may not experience the same problems.

I'd go so far as to say that in Groups.io there is no such thing as an email-only subscription, there are only subscribers who haven't logged in yet.

Re: "Comment" field in the application for membership screen

Jim,

At some point people need to accept the consequences of their actions
or inactions. If they don't respond, they don't get approved.
I don't understand the vehemence of your opposition. The request has been made by many group moderators and is in no way out of line. In fact Mark has earlier stated his intent to implement something along these lines that would be considerably more powerful than the equivalent Yahoo Groups feature:

This simply isn't a Gio problem.
That exact same criticism could be leveled at just about any of Groups.io's more advanced features. Sure, many of these things could be handled manually (e.g. NuM), but they add to the richness of Groups.io's user and moderator experience.

Re: How to stop receiving your own email posting?

Jim Higgins

Received from Bruce Bowman at 8/4/2018 11:52 PM UTC:

On never you click on a link in an group email that says "view/reply online," groups.io automatically opens a response box. You have to remember to click on the "Discard" button to close it or you'll end up with a bunch of these "drafts."

I do not like this behavior and have complained about it in beta.

Whether to keep or discard requires "mind reading" on Gio's part. The best action is to keep a draft... one reason being that this may me one way people could be setting aside a message for a later response. And in the end, people need to manage this themselves. They should click CANCEL if they don't want to keep a draft of the response they started.

Received from Chris Jones via Groups.Io at 8/4/2018 07:52 PM UTC:

This topic has arisen following a post on beta from Patti Sliney, but that is not the best place for a disccusion about it, given that it was under Site Updates. Patti's post included the following:

Any chance adding a "Comment" field in the application for membership screen, and having the option as a list owner/mod, to make that field mandatory? We've got this request on our Wish List, just hoping we can have that added in. We've tried the work around, which is moderating all our list membership, then sending an email message to the prospective member, asking them to tell us why they wish to join our group, but we are getting less than a 10% response.

At some point people need to accept the consequences of their actions or inactions. If they don't respond, they don't get approved. Likewise, if group owners are upset at a 10% response, loosen the requirements for approval, send requests for th emissing info... in short, MANAGE YOUR GROUP. This simply isn't a Gio problem.
