Re: Storage space
Richard,
Members have suggested upgrading and offered funding. But it appearsFor the moment that's not true. Currently when a group downgrades the existing content is not deleted; you simply lose the ability to add more if you're now over the limit. However, I don't know if that can be relied on as a site policy in the long run. If the time comes that you're faced with having your group revert to Basic you should take advantage of the content download feature before the downgrade takes effect, just in case. How about a 2-5 Gb for a one time payment program being available?I'm all for that, even as a yearly payment. As Duane mentioned it was discussed in beta a while ago, but nothing has been said about it by Groups.io (Mark). Re: Storage space
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMy group that was on Y since 2000, had used a whole lot of pictures as attachments to explain certain things. Members also had photo albums for storing their personal pictures in that related to what our group was about, with a few members accumulating up to 200 pictures in their albums. We also had files, databases, and archived posts too, and on Y our storage was almost unlimited. I knew when I decided to move the group to Groups.io I was going to need more than 1GB, but 10 was going to be overkill. I also knew I was going to lose all the attachments that were tied to archived posts, but I decided I could sacrifice the attachments for a move to a stable site. Groups.io offered everything I wanted so our group would continue into the future, and with 10GB of space we would never run out of room. The tradeoff besides the loss of the old attachments, is it was going to cost me $10.00 per month. Y spoiled me by giving all that to me for free, but I had to contend with a constant barrage of advertisements, and customer service that was pretty much non-existent¡Just the opposite in Groups.io. Some members offered to pay a little to offset the $10.00 per month, but to me it seemed kind of ridiculous to take $1.00 donations from a few members out of almost 100, and to complicated to setup just for $10.00 per month. I decided since this group was my baby, if I wanted it to continue on it was going to be up to me to pay for it. So where was I going to get the money to pay for my group every month? By giving up going out to coffee about five times a month, I could easily pay for the group, so that¡¯s what I¡¯ve been doing, and it hasn¡¯t changed anything in my life¡except I¡¯ve saved a little gas money in the process. ? No, you're not answering your own question. But I definitely do liked that one. All you need to do, is under your subscription tab, just have all messages selected.

The biggest problem I had was folks not realizing that the default resolution of their camera, regardless of type, was for printing 8x10 pictures.? Much lower resolution is fine for viewing on any type of device.? I've now set my groups to resize to 312x312 and haven't had any complaints.? Re: Storage space
You could change the resolution max for all photos and reclaim space that way. Most people would not notice the difference in resolution.
You could set up several groups of howtos using some classification system so different subjects are in different free groups, each gets a full allocation of space. |
Storage space
I recently discovered that my basic Group was using the entire 2Gb of storage
Mostly with photos. This is after 15 years with Yahoo. We are sort of a how to do it Group, and phone pics have gotten bigger. The members do not want me to simply delete all old stuff, because it has historical value I have deleted some that were not of much use and gained 130 Mb of space. The pics attached to messages are 26% of our total space now. I can start an effort to induce posters to judge how much detail is needed in a pic. Perhaps I can cut the Attachments space in half. All this is a short term (4-5 years?) solution. Members have suggested upgrading and offered funding. But it appears that for us, if the funding stops, all the old stuff exceeding 1Gb will be gone. That is what the members are afraid of. We have no use for any of the other features, and most of our members are not technically capable. How about a 2-5 Gb for a one time payment program being available? Even better maybe a one time payment for a forever 1 Gb more space as a basic -2 upgrade? And repeatable every few years as the new space fill up. This could be up to 10Gb at which point some new decision is in order. Like buying bananas by the pound. Use them up and then buy more. I cannot see our group ever using 10 Gb (famous last words!) and we may never fill a second Gb. Then too as the volume of information increases, the likelihood of anyone finding anything useful to themselves decreases.? We have no Google to find anything in the Photos or Files sections, and many members of our Group find it easier to place an inquiry to the group and have it answered by a member as to the location of the information where it has been for 10 years. Few photos even have a caption. My group has only 765 members, and within our obscure "hobby/avocation" the membership is dropping slowly. There is no possibility of ever having more than 1000 members. There must be a lot of Groups with the same limited future. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Richard |
Re: User deleting own post
I don't believe it has been established if or how the GDPR will apply to online communities or specifically mailing list archives. Such contributions are qualitatively different than personal information collected privately.Change the Group description to state that a requirement of group participation is that all messages should not be deleted and/or edited, and send a Special Notice of the policy clarification / update, and put it in the Message Footer too. You could be sure to send a reply to the group of every message from the 'Post Deleting Member' and quote their message. Then if they delete their post, the quote of it would still be archived¡ It¡¯s not ideal and a bit of a hassle. Warn the Deleter first, that you will do that. And that you could put them on Moderation to be sure you can do that before they delete. Go to Admin: Settings: Message Policies and check: Disable Editing Posts Don't allow members to edit their own posts. (And click on: Update Group) I¡¯m not sure if this will also prevent deletions or not. |

jonathon,If the individual lives in Europe, you don't have that option. If they ?I support the notion? that a member ought to have the ability to remove their own contributions, but until this interpretation of the GDPR is proven in the context of group contributions I believe statements like that to be rank fear-mongering. Jonathon. I didnt noted it. Thanks to point me to details. The list is quite calm but I would like to get something in hand in case of bad behavior in the list or if someone scale a dispute in Justice.? If a judge ask I will need to deliver the data(its a supposition but can happen). Kleibe On Thu, Jul 5, 2018 at 12:30 PM, toki <toki.kantoor@...> wrote: On 05/07/18 01:59 PM, Kleibe J wrote: |

Just to keep you updated.
I have talked to the user. He cited some reasons. He cited that could reduce his footprint on the web. I agree with him in this aspect BUT I want, as moderator, to keep the messages...
If exist that option would be nice.

Thank you!

If they want the data deleted, comply or be fined a fairly significant amount - the greater of E10,000,000 or 10% of gross worldwide revenue. After 1 January 2020, if your user lives in California, and assuming that Google,FaceBook, and the like haven't bribed the state legislature into abolishing it, you won't have that option. Re: Automatic Unsubscribes?
<<In Premium groups, there is an option to look at Past Members. You can
sort that list by the Reason field to get all the "SPAM left" folks and
with some cut-and-paste (perhaps into a spreadsheet) prepare a list that
way. >>
Bruce, even with the free version, I can easily narrow down all the people unsubbed by going to Activity - Member Activity - Action = Removed because of Spam Report.? Was trying, however, NOT to do this manually (copying and pasting 2 pages of email addresses).? I may pose this on the beta forum - some way to maybe export those email addresses in some easy way, so we can send a group email using our private email address, notifying them they've been auto unsubbed.? Hoping the # of folks being auto unsubbed slows down, and that this is just a phenomena of inactive, transferred members just deciding they don't want to be a list member, and (foolishly) marking our emails as Spam.

Bruce:
Good suggestion. I will try and report it here.
Robert:
I agree with you partialy. I will change the requirements to join the group and see what is happen. By other side if a person join a list I believe that all messages could be archieved for n purposes. At least as an history. My list migrated from Yahoo and was created in 2000.?
